Chapter Seven

🕸The King Slayer🕸
Zara woke up the next morning still so much sleepy. Her slumber was filled with swimming white headlights and a man in
the form of the Grim Reaper. She looked into the vanity mirror which reflected back a sleep deprived face with eyes encircled by dark shadows. Great look for a zombie film cast.
Let me find me something to make me less dead. She picked a light grey off shoulder sweater and a black washed boyfriend jeans. She completed the look with black leather converse and a high bun.
"Morning! Woah, is today your fairy godmother's day off?" She gave her brother a cold once over and put on her Dior glasses. "None of your business."
"Mum made breakfast, I already ate. Knock yourself out and while you are at it please help yourself with some sugar cubes, you are way too sour for a very fine day. I will head out first."
She rolled her eyes at him-although he couldn't see-and walked past him towards the kitchen. Her mum stood by the fridge humming a melody, an orange juice box in her hand.
Samantha twirled around and noticed that she wasn't alone anymore.
"Good morning, sweetheart! I made some pancakes with warm milk." She placed a can of whipped cream by the plate for her daughter. "Now, start eating before it gets late. You will not leave this house unless you are done eating young lady. So if you are not fine with the idea of getting detention for tardiness, you better dig in." She looked at her daughter expectantly but Zara seemed to be super glued to the ground she was so still.
"Zara, are you okay?" That seemed to shake her daughter back.
"Yes mum, I am fine. Thanks for making breakfast, it looks delicious."
Her mum smiled at her and left the room warning her about not leaving the house without finishing off her plate again.

The morning rolled up pretty fast and Zara found herself sitting for lunch. Her silent time was short lived as her seat mates came to join her. They didn't bother with greeting since it would probably be followed by an awkward silence like the first few times they tried but Kate searched Zara's eyes through the glasses Zara wore and warmed hers when she thought she found them, which she strangely did.
"So. Hannah said she will be here after two weeks. I can't wait to have her back."
"Yay,me too." Courtney commented, her tone contradictory to her words.
" Today, I went by the office. It seems like there will be a new student joining us. I don't know if it is a guy or a girl but I think he or she will be in our grade."
" I hope it's a guy. We don't have enough of those."
Zara tuned them out for the rest of the lunch and went to class when the bell rung.
The remaining few days of the week passed uneventful. Sleep, eat, school, work and repeat.

Monday would have been its regular self if it hadn't been for the boy standing a few feet away in front of the classroom.
"Class, meet Solomon. Solomon these are the students you will share your Maths classes with. Pick a desk and take a seat. Students, please make him feel welcomed and help him catch up to us." Mrs. Carter made the introduction.
"I will help him." A red head girl with pretty green eyes said from the middle row. Zara had spared him a disinterested glance before diving back to the problem she was working on when he first entered.
"That is very nice of you Tina. Solomon you can take your seat now."
"Okay, Mrs. Carter."
I know that voice. Zara looked up from her papers and right into his eyes. The grey eyed boy from the garage. At the same time, recognition fleet his features and he wiggled his eyebrow up and down as if to say hi. She simply gave him a curt nod and went back to work.
"Zara Payne and Solomon Kane please report to the president's office." Zara glared at the speaker in annoyance and started gathering her stuff. The new guy, apparently now Solomon, was already at the door. He stood aside holding the door open for her. She simply went out and he followed suit. "So your name is Zara." It came out more like a question than a statement.
"Yes, the office is this way right at the corner. Let us hurry and maybe we can get back to class early, I have got to finish something I started." She left no room for further chance of conversation.
"Ah, Zara, Solomon take a seat." Both of them pulled their chairs towards the massive mahogany table.
"How are your classes Zara?"
"They are good."
"How did you find your French classes?"
"I am making maximum effort Mr. Turner."
"Ah, yes well I told you that the school will interfere to help you improve your skills. Solomon here is a newly enrolled student. According to his earlier school histories, he has a remarkable stand on that forte. I am going to pair you up so you can help each other. Both of you are new to the environment ,only,Zara is a week ahead of you. I have arranged to make your schedules similar. So while you help him catch up to the few classes he missed ,he will help you improve your French."
"With all due respect sir, I can manage on my own. I don't like to bother anyone."
"Oh no, Zara, you are not going to be a bother at all. I will be glad to help and as Mr. Turner said you will help me too. So this is a win win situation."
Who asked him anyway? We have met in under an hour and he already managed to get under my skin. How am I supposed to get along with him for the rest of the semester?
She turned to him, gritting her teeth. His intense gaze was so unsettling. His eyes held so many untold stories. She kept going lower. His nose resembled an aristocrat's. Very defined cheekbones. Thin set of lips that seemed to be drawn perfectly by accident, the type you get to draw only once but if you smudge the paint and try to erase them, you will never get them back. She travelled back up and settled at those pools of grey. Her stomach was clenching for reason unknown to her. Those eyes.... A throat was cleared and she was pulled back from wherever the hell she was going to wander to.
"Okay Mr. Turner, I will do as you say."
"Marvelous! That is settled then. Now, you both can go back to your classes." Both of them collected their bags from the secretary's table outside and headed back to class in silence. Zara's neck skin was tingling, she knew he was digging holes at her by his eyes. "If you have something to say, just say it. Stop staring at me."
"How am I going to help you in French? From what I saw you don't seem too keen on being helped."
"Does lunch sound fine to you? We can head straight to the library from class."
"There is a reason it is called lunch, don't you think?"
She huffed in annoyance. I feel like I am talking to a toddler. "It will only be for twenty minutes."
"How about after school some place? Maybe yours or mine?"
"I will be busy after school, usually am."
"Okay so lunch time it is."
She stopped abruptly and turned her face to look at him, he almost run her over. She arched an eyebrow and searched his face, skeptic.
"What is wrong?"
"Nothing, just that I didn't expect you to give in so easily."
"What the lady asks, she gets." She flinched at his use of the word lady. She stared at him for a while longer and finally started walking again.

Late update. I would say I am sorry but I would be lying. Life had been hectic lately and school is a few days away. I won't be updating as regularly, but I will try my best.
Oh and a late Eid Mubarak for all of you who celebrate it :):)))))☪️🕋☪️🕋
