17- Intruder
"Is this how?" He asked, looking up at her.
"Uh... yep." She was reading a cook book, helping him with his muffins. "Don't put too much in the pan. It'll rise in the oven on its own."
"Okay," he kept pouring the batter, focused. Honestly, it wasn't that bad. Rather fun, really. Once that was done, Hailey stroke a match and lit the small candle inside the oven, Isaac placed the pan inside, then sat and waited.
And waited...
And waited.....
And... waited....
"How long will it take?" He questioned, impatient.
She shrugged. "Twenty minutes or so?"
"And how long's it been?"
"... Two."
He groaned loudly, leaning back with annoyance. Being a twelve-year-old fairy who could only live off of sugar, he had the attention span, tolerance and patience of a gold fish.
"You don't have to sit there, you know. You can just leave."
"But..." He pouted. "But... But I wanna watch it rise!"
She stiffled a laughter. "Okay... Hey, I'm going to go downstairs and get something. I'll be right back."
"Okay. Remember to--"
"Close the door, I know." She patted him on his head before exiting the room, closing the door as she said she would.
Isaac stared at the little flame, watching it dance its beautiful, complex dance... For a little flame, it had good moves.
He could hear voices downstairs, mainly Hailey's dad talking. But someone else was there, and Isacresenta didn't trust them, due to the heavy feeling in his gut. The talking ceased, and two pairs of footsteps could be heard coming up the stairs. Nervous, Isaac hurried into his house, putting his hand on his sword. He peeked around the corner of the stairs--which led to a hallway--once he was safe, watching carefully.
"Go ahead and make yourself at home. I'll be back in a minute." Said Hailey's dad outside the door, and then footsteps went down the hallway.
A few seconds later, once the footsteps died, Hailey's door creaked open for a man. He looked about suspiciously, not even bothering to close the noisy door back up. On one hand, that was good because people would be able to see him, but bad because of a certain feline who had an urge to kill little things like FAIRIES.
"Hey, it smells good in here." Said Ross."It kinda smells like..." He took a whiff. "Blueberries."
Isaac narrowed his eyes, watching Ross walk onto Hailey's carpet with his dirty shoes. The rudeness of this man made the fairy disgusted, and he scowled at him.
"Okay, shorty. Where you hiding?" He looked around, placing his hands in his pockets, and then spotted the doll house. He grinned, then walked towards the dresser which the house sat atop of. "Well isn't this a quant little home? And look!" He said with a gasp. "You even have tiny little flowers on your windows. Isn't that just adorable?"
It was one thing when Hailey called the fairy cute, but it was an entirely different thing when someone else called him that. Ross put his hand in the house and felt around, humming something as he searched almost mindlessly. Isaac pulled out his sword and aimed once he got closer, then jabbed it a centimeter or two deep into his flesh, blood pooling in the wound and a bump forming around the blade. Ross yanked his hand back with a yelp, sucking on his injury as if he were going to heal it with magic saliva or something.
"Ow! Fuuuuuuu--mph!" He pulled his hand out to look at the wound, then put it back into his mouth and kept whimpering.
Isaac beamed.
"The hell, little goblin?" He shook his hand painfully. "Why'd you do that? You hit a freakin' vein!"
The fairy casually wiped off some red blood from the blade, bobbing his head along to a song called Zombie by the Cranberries, which had decided to insert itself into his brain.
"You're going to be so sorry when I get my hands on you! Come here!"
Isaac dodged a massive hand as it swiped, trying to knock the wee folk off his balance. He began to run the other way, but stopped as another hand blocked him. Behind him, the bleeding hand was doing the same as the latter. The hands began to close in, trapping the fairy against the wall, and he held his sword up, knowing he wouldn't be able to get out of this. When the hands were far too close, Isaac jabbed at them, trying to get Ross away. He crouched down and covered his head--unsure why--looking around for some escape.
To his surprise, Ross yelped and drew away. The little fairy heard a cat hiss and growl deeply in warning as he stood up and ran over to the corner for a peek. He could see Roscoe with his back arched, spitting, nipping and snarling at Ross.
"Agh! Stupid cat!" Roared the man.
The cat hissed again and batted at the man's ankles, giving him long scratches across his skin. Ross kicked the cat, sending him a foot into the air, and making him snarl back and bristle his fur. The calico jumped at him again, practically climbing up his pants. The man kicked Roscoe in the ribs, leaving in anger. After the cat recovered, he groomed and then hopped onto the bed, getting comfortable as he stared at the door.
A few moments later, Hailey appeared. She quickly closed the door and locked it, seeming nervous. "Isaac! Ross's here!" She whisper-shouted.
The fairy got out of hiding and rolled his eyes. "Yeah, no dip, I just saw him."
"What?!"
"If it wasn't for that stubborn cat of yours," he motioned to Roscoe, who was staring back at him, "I would be in his hands right about now."
She gasped, beaming with pride as she looked at her cat. "Roscoe, you're such a hero! Oh, thank you, my little kitty!" She picked up her cat and hugged him, smothering him in kisses and petting his soft head. The cat purred, making Isaac chuckle.
"He was bitting and clawing at him. Ross kicked him twice, but that cat was relentless."
"He kicked my cat? No, no one kicks my cat and tries to kidnap my fairy. No one." She kissed her cat one final time, before simply hugging him. "Oh, you sure showed that guy who's boss, didn't you? Yes, yes you did." She sat and pet him even more, making him pur louder. "You saved Isaac, my little-baby-kitty. And even though he won't say anything, he's incredibly thankful."
Isaac shrugged. "Could've been because he didn't like Ross. The cat didn't even know I was here."
"Trust me: Roscoe knew. Plus, if he wanted to hurt you, he'd have gotten up there by now. He clearly hasn't."
"Whatever, Hailey." He glanced at the pleased cat, fighting the urge to mock it by sticking out his tongue. "What did you go downstairs for?"
"Well, I was going to bring some milk for us, but when I saw him, I kinda forgot. I did get napkins, though. Took awhile to find, but I got 'em... I didn't think Ross would come in here to look for you. What a creep. We need to tell someone, seriously." She paused for a second, looking at the ceiling, then rephrased the last sentence. "We seriously need to tell someone."
"Exclude the part about me, please."
"Don't worry, I won't say a word about you."
"Thanks,"
Roscoe meowed, which made the fairy jump. Hailey just laughed.
Okay, I know, I've been procrastinating. But can you blame me? I'm 14! XD Anyway, I've been thinking about changing Sam's name. Let me know what you guys have in mind, because I'm... pretty undecided.
