Shane lies in a hospital bed with an arm sling, giving a statement to Renee.

Stephanie and Glenn quietly enter.

SHANE

This will not affect my campaign for mayor. I am more committed than ever to putting every last criminal behind bars where they belong.

STEPHANIE

(to Renee)

Could you give us a minute?

Renee steps outside.

STEPHANIE (CONT'D)

Shane, what happened to you was heinous, and I know you want justice. We all do. But do you really think you have what it takes to get this place into shape? I mean, look at you. There are monsters out there who are capable of doing much worse.

SHANE

(threatening)

Oh, I know all about monsters. Thank you for your concern, but I'm not going anywhere. My job is to make those monsters pay for everything they've done, and I won't' stop until I do.

He and Stephanie have an intense stare off.

STEPHANIE

Then may the best man or woman win.

GLENN

(creepy smile)

They walk out.
