As I consider the stars in the sky
and these human feet on the ground
While I'm wondering about life and why
and the world we roam around

I watch what we do and what we say
Though people really don't care these days
to take a moment and get a clue
about how to make some elbow room

Anger is the inner setting
Fear stands on every corner now
All most care about is what they're getting
or what they can take somehow

Once in time we lived together
and put up with a little discomfort
When tempers flared we knew better
and violence was a last resort

My shadowbox heart becomes my fortress
as I sink farther into its room
from here I watch and observe this sore mess
hoping we'll find the answer soon
