EXT. SHANGHAI RESIDENTIAL AREA (1954) - DAY

Wang Wharton's large Siheyuan (a square courtyard with houses on four sides) stands out among the other houses in the rich neighborhood. We move slowly towards the exquisitely shaped floral-pendant gate.

SUPERIMPOSE: "Shanghai, China. 1954."

EXT. WANG WHARTON'S HOUSE - DAY

We see huge open spaces, trees, plants and a pond in the inner courtyard of the house. Wallstreet, now a handsome 25-year old, is mopping the covered front porch of the family residence in the north of the compound.

A FEMALE SERVANT is cleaning the porch of the left wing room.
