Chapter 34: Admiral Troubles
"Wait, you have to what now?" Koby was sitting up in your bed, topless and naked beneath the sheets. You were laying down on your stomach and hummed.
"I have to learn how to play the guitar, and apparently write a song for her and her soon-to-be husband. Haaa..." You sighed and put your face into the pillow and Koby chuckles at you and ran his fingertips over your scarred shoulder causing you to shudder.
"It just means that she loves and trusts you. And wants you to be a part of her traditions."
"Uh huh, she only has three months though until the wedding though."
At that Koby widened his eyes and stared at you which earned another groan from you. Koby then laid next to you, bringing you into his side. He kissed your hair, and nuzzled into you.
"Well...uh good luck?"
"Sentomaru said the same thing. That doesn't help me with my dilema."
"Wouldn't the first step be to actually buy a guitar?"
"Yoru, you're not helping Y/N feel better."
You smiled into your pillow, Koby had been able to hear Yoru from the beginning which you summed up to the fact that Koby was the person you trusted the most. They had a pretty good relationship, the only other person who could hear Yoru was Smoker. He was Yoru's favorite person, which you thought was funny.
"I'll do it in a few days, right now I'm worried about what my next mission will be. I hope I get to stay on ship with everyone here. I'm exhausted being shoved here and there."
One thing that Koby never wanted you to do, was keep anything from him. Especially when it came to things that bothered you or things that irritated you. You told him that he had to complain about one thing every day having to do with his duties, and sometimes he said the same thing twice. The boy couldn't help it, he liked what he did, and he liked helping people. It made you love him even more, but more often than not, he'd beg you to let that little compromise slide.
"You're not." Koby lamented, and he pulled you in closer, breathing in your scent and you became sad. Sometimes being a Marine sucked, having your relationship stay a secret sucked even more.
"Wait how do you know?"
"I am a Captain, and I can request people who I trust to help me out with things that I need. And it just so happens, that I need a very skilled Combat Medic for my next mission. And it was approved just this morning. Hehehe." Koby smiled and you just stared at him wide-eyed before your signature smirk made its way to your face.
"Why Captain Koby, did you use your position of power to get something that you wanted done?"
"Hehehe, I guess this is about as selfish as I can get." He nuzzled you closer and smiled into your hair. Another thing you wanted of Koby was to be more selfish when he wanted something, especially if it was something he wanted of you. He was an incredibly giving person, and he rarely thought about his own needs that didn't include eating and sleeping.
"Well thank you for that. I am truly grateful to be on the same ship as you again."
You pecked a kiss on Koby's chest when Yoru squawked.
"No round two while I am here you guys, just sleep please I am begging you!"
You sighed and Koby gave an awkward laugh at Yoru's whining. He really did have impeccable timing in all things.
Three days later and you were in a music shop, trying to figure out what exactly you wanted to get. You got all the beginner books on music, and basics on guitar. You also got some notebooks and pencils that you thought you would need in order to write a song. You were currently looking at the acoustic guitars and were annoyed at just how many different designs there were. When you'd gotten everything, you headed back to the ship, only to come face to face with Admiral Kizaru.
"Admiral. I'm sorry I can't exactly salute you right now."
"Oh no worries Ghost Doctor. Sakazuki wants to see you. I can take these back to your personal quarters, he wants to see you as soon as possible."
You looked down at yourself. You had on black shorts, a white t-shirt, sandals, and of course your black hat and your bracelet that you never took off.
"He won't care about your casual wear he is at his personal residence as well and would like you to go there. Here is the place where you need to go."
Before you could ask why you were being summoned, he took your items from you carefully and started to walk off. His long legs making it impossible to catch up.
"Yoru. Go to my room and hide anything having to do with my personal research. Now! After you're done let Koby know where I am. I was supposed to meet him, but I don't think I'll be able to."
Yoru nodded on his perch, made himself into a crow and flew towards the ship without being noticed by the still disappearing Admiral. You sighed and looked at where you were supposed to go, and made your way there.
25 minutes later, you came across a house, that had bonsai bushes everywhere you looked. There was even a cherry blossom tree. You stared in awe at how beautiful it all looked before you heard a deep voice from behind you. Almost making you jump.
"I'm thinking of putting some kind of koi pond right in the middle. What do you think?" Fleet Admiral Akainu stood behind you. He was wearing a tank top with some sweatpants. You were about to salute when he waved you off. "This is a personal visit I would like to discuss some things with you...where is your avian companion?"
"Around he doesn't like to sit still for long."
Yoru cawed and landed on one of the branches of the cherry blossoms. For once you were incredibly thankful that timing of his.
"It's seems he's made himself comfortable."
You simply nodded and waited for the man in front of you to show you in, he walks in front of you, and you followed.
"Why do you think he wants to talk to you?"
"No clue. But it doesn't seem like he wants to kill me. I would've been dead long ago if that was the case."
"He still thinks you saved him one year ago. So technically he thinks he owes you his life. I doubt he'd kill you unless you gave him a reason."
Not that it was very helpful, Akainu had been trying his hardest to get you to be one of his personal physicians, but since you were well known to be calm, cool and collected on the battlefield you were requested quite a bit since you saved the most lives.
"It is a beautiful yard." You said simply.
"Thank you. My chef has made food for everyone."
Everyone? As in there was more people coming?
"I see." You had always made sure to never show your emotions or questions on your face. The only people who saw your many expressions were Koby, Grount, Helmeppo, Garp, Smoker and Saphi. Everyone else was subjected to your usually gloomy self.
"I hope you like traditional foods."
"I'm not very picky sir. I don't like coconut but that's about it."
"What's wrong with coconut?"
"Allergic to it. Found out the hard way."
He hummed, and walked you into a room where there were two other men you'd heard of but never seen.
"Admirals Fujitora and Ryokugyu." You gave a bow as of respect.
"This was the special guest Sakazuki-San? This small beast?" Ryokugyu gave you a disgusted look like you were a piece of shit that he'd accidentally stepped on. "Why did we have to wait for this." He motioned your body up and down. "Women shouldn't have scars. Ugh it's a good thing I'm fasting, or else she'd make me lose my appetite."
"Hmmmm. Her aura is pleasant. Come little one sit next to me." Fujitora patted the seat next to him, you just stood there taking everything in. What Ryokugyu said hadn't had bothered you, the people who mattered to you saw your scars as cool and something you survived and got stronger because of.
"Excuse me. I apologize for keeping you all waiting." You went to walk to Fujitora when you heard Kizaru's voice. Enter the home. When you sat down, Fujitora leaned closer to you.
"Do you need an out? I can help you escape."
You saw the man next to you. He was blind you finally noticed, but he seemed to get around just fine. And the way he mentioned your aura reminded you of how Koby mentioned the color of your soul.
"I'm alright Admiral. Thank you though. I've heard many stories about you."
"And I you. By the way you have a lovely voice."
"She sounds like a dying animal." Ryokugyu muttered under his breath. Before you could make yourself a plate, Akainu placed one in front of you.
"No coconut I promise."
"Thank you sir."
You accepted the plate and carefully started to eat.
"What the fuck is that large bird in your trees Sakazuki-San."
"That's Yoru. He's mine." You answered simply.
"Did I ask you bitch?"
"No." You answered simply as you put more food in your mouth. "Is this a little get together you all do when you're in the same place?"
You were genuinely curious and thought the worst that could happen is that no one would answer you.
"Something like that Ghosty." Kizaru was the one to satisfy that curiosity.
"That's nice." You simply said. You didn't say anything after that. Instead you talked to Yoru.
"This is going to be boring isn't it?"
"Going to be? I'm already bored. Plus this Fujitora guy keeps eyeing me. It's a little weird."
"Give me a minute. Well more like 10. But hang tight."
"You're going to leave me alone with a bunch of old men while one just insults me every chance he gets?"
"You'll be fine. Nothing you haven't heard before."
Good point, you had heard everything before.
"What do you think Ghosty?"
"Think about what?"
"About a list of priorities. For when pirates interrupt a humanitarian mission."
"As long as the innocent civilians are set as number one, I'm pretty sure it works out fine."
"What about the pirates?" Fujitora glanced at you his tone turning curious.
"Our soldiers are trained. As long as they have a strong leader who can multitask, and is assertive the rescue portion of the team can focus on the people."
You stopped eating and sat back, suddenly feeling all eyes on you.
"Civilian death isn't unheard of when pirates are involved."
"I'm aware. But if we think about it. Why do we as the Navy even exist if not to protect people from those who would want to hurt them or take advantage of them. Especially young kids. Garp flattened a General last month cause he found out she'd been selling children to disgusting old men. Sometimes the most evil people are the ones we work with. What should we do with them?"
No one answered you.
"Sometimes evil is necessary for Justice to prevail."
Akainu was the one who said. Kizaru shook his head like he was used to hearing this, Ryokugyu was beaming like Akainu held the moon and stars. And Fujitora's frown deepened.
"People who steal away a child's innocence don't deserve to be alive. I don't give a shit if it's a king, government official, soldier, or pirate. You do that to a child you deserve an extremely painful and drawn out death. Personally I just wish the pirates would just go to war with each other and kill each other and we deal with the rest."
"I agree with you about the children, Dr. L/N. I will remember that from now on." Fujitora ruffled your hair. "I like you Dr. L/N. Let me know if you'd like to work with me." He chuckled.
The air in the room became heavy.
"That's the first time I've ever heard one of your opinions L/N. It's refreshing." Akainu smirked and took a drink of sake before offering you a cup of your own. You took it to be polite.
"She's annoying. Can she leave yet?"
Yes please? I'm suffocating.
"I'm sorry that I've ruined your day. I'll take my leave now. Thank you for that wonderful meal." You bowed and began to walk out when you reached the entrance and started to putting your sandals on.
"Dr. L/N?" Fujitora walked up behind you. "It was really nice meeting you. I've heard many stories about you. And I was the one who asked to meet you. I'm sorry about the troubles I've brought to you."
You were confused.
"You could've just asked Vice Admiral Garp. I would've made you a special tea just for you."
"I'll do that next time." He patted your head again. "Your aura is very warm. It's pleasant to be around. See you soon."
If only you knew that one afternoon would be the start of your troubles and trials, you never would've gone.
