🌹°~Epilogue~°🌹

"Um...Rain...

How do I describe it??

Uhh...I guess for me it's comforting.

It makes me feel safe. Makes me feel as though there's always someone there to comfort me. Especially when I need it the most.

I remember when I was younger, I witnessed my first thunderstorm. But I just thought the sky was crying. So I sat under a tree near the guild and talked to it to make it feel better.

A silly thought, I know, but I was young back then. But that moment meant the world to me.

I got sick the next day and was out on bed rest for that following week. But get this!

It stopped raining later on.

So, for that entire week that I was sick, I made sure to talk to the sky everyday.

AH! I'm getting off track aren't I!?

But you wanna know something else?

Sometimes I like to play a little game with myself when it rains.

I like watching the rain roll down a window, then wait for it to fuse with another drop. And which ever drop reaches the bottom first that means-!

Oh crap!

I'm getting off track again aren't I!?"

Then she giggled.

"Hehe! Sorry Natsu!"

"I-it's fine, (N/n)." Natsu whispered to no one as he kneeled before his guild mate's grave. The heavy raindrops encasing him in a freezing shower he didn't need.

Death by a Forgotten Heart

Said the grave. Lining the grave were beautiful assortments of lilies and chrysanthemums. The rain falling from the sky that seemed to dull their vibrant color.

Funny right? The flowers that killed her are the ones that lie above her decomposing corpse.

Natsu didn't seem to mind the downpour. His salmon locks were matted onto his forehead, and his clothes were drenched beyond belief, yet he stayed put.

He looked to his right for a little and looked at the gloomy clouds that hovered above the gray and black looking ocean below.

He wishes it didn't rain today. Maybe he could describe a more refulgent scenery to (Y/n) and pretend he could hear her soft voice make snarky remarks on Natsu's lousy imagination.

He smiled at the recollection of him calling the pastel painting sunset 'Nothin but a bunch of water-flavored cotton candy.'

He remembered loving the sound of her laugh; and the way she almost shoved him over the cliff.

But reality came back, making sure to collide directly into his heart, making sure he felt a pang of guilt for being the reason (Y/n) wasn't here right now.

He stayed kneeling. Not seeming too bothered by his knees being submerged into the muddy earth.

He sat in silence for a few more moments before he began to speak.

"You...uh...haven't missed much." He said in a hushed tone. "The guild hasn't been the same since you...left. Wendy...she hasn't really healed that much, but she's definitely gotten better. She's finally eating again. Carla has been trying to cheer her up, but she's been clinging to Erza like a leech. Mira, Levi, and Cana considered cleaning out your dorm, but the team wouldn't let them." He said as a tiny smile caressed his lips before immediately disappearing.

"We wouldn't let them, so don't worry. You're stupid Boku No Hero merchandise is fine too." He painfully chuckled as memories of the (h/c)-haired woman surfaced. Especially the anime speeches she gave.

"Uh...what else? Oh! I'm finally an S-Classed Wizard." He smiled solemnly. "It took a while, but it was worth it. I made sure to come and tell you right after the celebration. I made sure to rub it in Fullbuster's face." He smiled again, this one more forced than the others.

"I know you said you wanted to be one before me, but..." He trailed off. He paused for a moment before inhaling the crisp, moist atmosphere.

"I guess you can't do that now." He mumbled towards the headstone.

"Oh! And-" he perked up before stopping when he felt a hand on his shoulder.

Startled, he snapped his attention towards the owner of the mystery hand, only to come face-to-face with a familiar pair of chocolatey brown orbs.

The scarlet-haired woman gave Natsu a pained smile before speaking. "You're missing your own celebration Natsu. I thought you'd be happy and celebrating with the rest of the guild." She said in a low voice while plastering a pained smiled on her face at the sight of the headstone.

Erza pondered for a little. Trying to find a subject that would have Natsu considering returning to the guild with her.

"What about Lucy? She's been worried about you." Erza informed. Hoping the idea of his upset girlfriend would have him springing to life.

But alas, he stayed put. Not even batting an eyelash for his worried girlfriend. Erza decided not to press any farther.

She knew why Natsu was here. She was here for the same reason as he was. Which is why Natsu didn't question her when she slowly stepped towards the grave and slowly caressed the name engraved into it.

They sat in silence for who knows how long until Natsu broke the silence. "How long has it been Erz?" He questioned.

A tear slid down her cheek, but one wouldn't be able to tell in the downpour.

"2 months." She whispered. Natsu looked down at his drenched lap and fiddled for his fingers.

"You read your letter didn't you?" Titania asked. Natsu felt a violent tug at his heart as he remembered the note vividly.

The messy cursive handwriting, every word, the hearted 'I's, the tear staines, crumbled corners and the small blotches of blood.

Everything.

"Yeah. You?" Erza hummed in response.

"Wendy sleeps with hers." Erza commented. "If it's not clutched in her hands, then it's under her pillow." She smalled solemnly at the image of the girl trying to discretely tuck the letter under her pillow.

"Have you spoken to Gray?" Erza croaked, trying to change the subject from the heart-shattering letter she received. Natsu silently nodded his head and bit his lip. "Did you?" He asked Erza.

She shook her head, allowing a few more stray tears to slip past her eyes as she leaned back into a sitting position.

"I-I..." She trailed off. She choked out a sob before clamping a hand over her mouth. The pyro hesitantly placed a hand over Erza's armored shoulder as a sign of comfort; despite the metal barrier.

"I was about to..." She whispered as she pulled her hand away. "B-but I didn't want to do it alone."

"That's why I'm glad I made it here before you left. I wanted to talk to him together." Erza croaked.

"When do you wanna go speak to him?" Natsu asked.

"In a little bit. I have to go talk to Juvia in a little while. See how she's holding up." Titania informed.

Natsu silently nodded his head. He knows the blue-haired woman wasn't coping as well as everyone else has been.

She locked herself in her dorm room and cried herself a river everyday.

"Erza..." Natsu spoke, breaking there silence. "Let's talk to him. I've been having this weird feeling while I was sitting here with (N/n)." He whispered.

"Like...he's been here the whole time." Natsu whispered hoping Erza didn't hear his last statement. Not wanting her to think he's going crazy.

But Erza heard him. She gives him a sympathetic glance before placing her wet hand over Natsu's. A tiny hint of concern surfacing when she felt how icy his felt compared to her own.

'He's been out here for hours.' She thought to herself.

"Care to elaborate Natsu?" The older woman asked.

Natsu encased his artic hands around Erza's hand, enjoying the small tinge of warmth it gave him.

"It's hard to explain Erza. I just..." He trailed of a little, but brought himself back, "I just thought that...for a moment it got colder. Like...the temperature just disappeared for a few seconds. This sounds crazy doesn't it? I'm fuckin loosing my mind Erz." He said as he clutched Erza's hand harder than he intended, but Erza didn't seem too bothered bt the construction.

"You want go see him now Natsu? I think you need more closure than I do." Erza spoke. Natsu realized he was crushing Erza's hand then hastily let go and muttered a small apology.

He mumbled a small 'yeah' before Erza held her hand out as a gesture for Natsu to grab it, which he did, ans she then help pull him from the mud.

Erza followed the pyro. They took a few steps before stopping dead in their tracks.

They both look down towards the other grave sat a few feet away from (Y/n)'s.

A sudden instinct over took Erza as she hastily reached and grabbed Natsu's hand and clutched it. Almost as if she needed reassurance that he was really there.

They stood their hand in hand for a moment. The rain felt colder in this particular spot, yet neither mage thought something of it.

They both had to take a moment to steady their booming hearts before finally bringing their gazes to look towards the headstone.

Gray Fullbuster

Born X766-X784

Beloved Guildmate and Friend to All

We Hope You Rest In Peace Gray

Read Gray's grave. His grave lined with small bouquets of lavender and purple roses; small lillies planted into the bouquets.

Natsu would be lying if he didn't say he wanted to cry. But he couldn't. He wanted to be brave for Erza.

He felt her hand tighten around his own causing him to wince, but not retract it. He knows she needs comfort right now.

In an awful attempt to break the silence, Natsu spoke.

"How did he die Erza?" Natsu whispered. He wasn't sure if he himself could handle the answer, even though he knew it.

He just wanted conformation. More than the headstone could provide.

Silent tears began to flood past Erza's brown eyes, yet she spoke clearly.

"Do you want me to sugar-coat it like I did for the guild?" She asked Natsu. He emitted a low growl from deep within his throat and gripped her hand tighter.

"I want the truth. I know you didn't give them the full story." He said. Erza simply nodded and retracted her hand from Natsu's.

"Well... I went to go check up on him like always. Ever since her death I made sure to stop by every afternoon."

~~
Erza casually walked towards Gray's apartment that day.

He had been acting really off that week. But then again, he hasn't been the same after (Y/n)'s death which was only a week ago.

He hadn't been talking, or eating, drinking, nothing.

Just yesterday he had finally come out of his apartment to 'talk' to the guild.

He was really touchy. More than he's ever been. The guild assumed that he was finally going to open up to them now. Hensing why Erza was knocking on his door now.

When she received no answer, she continued to knock. Assuming that he's finally getting some well-needed rest.

She gripped the doorknob and turned it; extremely confused as to why his door was unlocked.

A spark of concern ignited in her body as she hesitantly walked through Gray's apartment.

It was a mess.

Furniture overturned at every glance, shattered decor and plates littered the floor.

In his living room lay his flat screen split down the middle and sharpened icicles plunged into his walls.

Yet throughout the caos, a few pictures of (Y/n) were hanging perfectly untouched on Gray's tattered walls.

Immediate fear rippled through Erza's body as she began to take heavy sprints towards Gray's bedroom door.

She shakily screamed his name as negative thoughts began to boil over in here mind as well as the tears that began to well in her panicked chocolate orbs.

She gripped his bedroom door and turned it only to be met with a locked door.

"Gray please open the door!!!" Erza shouted.

She took it upon herself to draw her leg back and forcefully kick the ice mage's door down.

Only to immediately regret it...
~~

"He was just...hanging there." Erza whispered through grit teeth.

Natsu turned his mournful gaze towards Erza. He watched her crumble before his eyes.

He felt so useless.

He didn't know how to comfort people. That was usually (Y/n)'s job.

"It's all my fault..." Natsu whispered to himself as he bawled his hands into fists.

"It's my fault Erza. It's all my fucking fault." He said a little louder as a shadow casted over his eyes.

Erza looked at him with a heavy heart as she reached out to Natsu to place a hand on his shoulder, only for him to swat her hand away and take a step backwards.

Erza flinched at the unexpected action and stared at the Pyro with wide and glossy eyes.

"It's all my fucking fault Erza! If I had just dated her then this wouldn't have happened! We wouldn't be here!! THEY WOULD STILL BE ALIVE!!!" He shouted as he clutched his head.

Erza's eyes widened at the outburst. Her heart ached at the sight of another one of her friends loosing themselves.

"Don't think like that Nats-" "Why the hell not!?" He shouted at Erza.

"I could've loved her!! Hell I did love her! I still do! But she's gone!!" He shouted as he tangled his fingers into his salmon tresses.

Erza simply shook her head and allowed more tears to slip out of her eyes. "How would you have loved her Natsu?" She asked.

Natsu looked at her through blurry and fiery gaze. "I loved her more than words could comprehend! I-"

"Would you have held her Natsu?" Erza asked as she took a step forward. "Would you have taken time away from your missions to spend time with her?"

"Shut up Erz." He growled.

"Would you have announced it to the world? That (Y/n) (L/n) was your girlfriend?" Erza said as she was a few feet away from Natsu.

"Erza I'm warning you-!"

"Would you have kissed her Natsu? Told her you loved her?" Erza whispered as she was now within arms reach of Natsu.

He snapped his heated glare towards Erza. His onxy eyes were now puffy, red, and overflowing with steamy tears.

His breathing was heavy and ragged through his grit teeth as his glare had begun to waver under Erza's confident, yet disappointed gaze.

"Would you Natsu?" She whispered.

Natsu sobbed as he fell to his knees before the great Titania. His body began to shake violently as he brought one hand to cover his face while the other reached for a handful of the muddy earth below them.

But Erza looked unfazed. She sent a soft glare towards the Pyro as a tinge of guilt reflected in her eyes. But she continued to stand proud.

"It wouldn't have mattered Natsu." She mumbled, but audible enough for Natsu.

"She would've still died the way she did. You would've had another woman on your mind. Your heart wouldn't have been hers." She informed. The facts pained her, but she knew the results would've been the same.

She would still have to burry her best friend.

"But I loved her Erz." Natsu whispered.

Erza sent him a sympathetic gaze before crouching down and running a hand through his wet and matted salmon tresses. Ignoring the blood that caressed her fingertips.

She sent a small glance towards Gray's grave and felt her heart ache.

"You didn't love her the way he did Natsu."

It's true. He loved her as more of a sister, and he knew that. But he would've pretended to love her the way she loved him. If it meant she'd live a little longer then he would've been willing to try.

Erza slowly stood up and gestured her hand towards Natsu. He hesitantly took it and Erza pulled him up.

"Let's go back to the guild Natsu." Erza suggested. She didn't wait for his reply as she began to slowly walk away.

She walked towards (Y/n)'s grave before kissing her pointer and middle finger then placing them on the headstone. She walked towards Gray's grave and did the same.

Natsu hadn't moved from his spot yet. He watched Erza kiss the stones then turn back towards him.

"You coming Natsu?" She asked. She knew the answer, yet she asked anyway.

He gulped before nodding and slowly striding towards Erza.

He gave the headstones one more parting glance and whispered towards them both.

"I'll seeya later Ice Princess."

"You too (N/n)."
~~

"I know you will Flame Brain."

Dear Natsu,

I...I don't know how to say this. But I'll just say it. You...you meant the most to me. You made me laugh, made me smile, made me cry, and you've made me angry. Ever since Lucy came around, you stopped hanging out with me. You stopped going to lunch with me, you stopped coming to my dorm, you stopped taking my food, and you stopped talking to me.

I always thought I did something wrong, maybe you grew annoyed with me, maybe I stunk?

Or maybe you just didn't like me anymore.

But I won't think about the negative! I'll always think about the fun we had! The memories we've made!

Natsu you mean so so much to me. So much that it hurts, so much that I cried for you, I've protected you, even bled for you. Yet, you never noticed. You didn't seem to care when I came to the guild tired, or sluggish, in pain.

And that's fine.

It's just a rough patch in our friendship. It'll heal.

I...

I love you Natsu Dragneel.
