Never going to get used to this

I’d been hiding out in Sirius’ bedroom for a week because I wasn’t exactly supposed to be there. I wondered if my friends were freaking out about me, or if they weren’t because it technically hadn’t happened yet. Or had it? It was like twenty years in the future.

My brain hurts.

“What’s that?” Sirius asked me.

“What’s what?”

“On your face. That pattern, what is it?”

Intrigued, I walked over to the mirror and observed a small curved black pattern across my cheek.

“Well, that’s weird.” I said softly. I tried to wipe the black lines off, but they wouldn’t budge. I tried to scratch them, rub them, and scuff them off, but the lines seemed to be part of my skin. “This is awkward.”

“Hey, do you go to Hogwarts?” Sirius asked, sitting down beside me.

“Yeah,” I sighed. “About twenty years in the future though.”

“Well, you should come with me. Meet my friends! There’s Remus Lupin, we call him Moony-“ My stomach gave a weird sort of turn, and I couldn’t listen as a young Sirius explained my Godfather. “-Then there’s James. James Potter, you know, when you first told me your name, I thought you were related to him or something.”

“How ‘bout that.” I said, my voice much higher than usual.

“But you know, if you’re really from the future, you can’t be related...” Sirius’s eyes lit up, as though he had just thought of something. “You’re not like, his daughter or anything. Are you? no you can’t be. Are you?”

“Aha! No!” I laughed trying to make myself seem natural. “I’m not even from England.” I found myself saying.

“Where are you from then?”

“Australia!” I said the first continent that came to mind.

“But you sound British.”

“After I went to Hogwarts my accent changed.” I said in more of a question than a statement.

“Cool.” Sirius said, actually interested. “Anyway, then there’s my friend Peter-“

I clenched my jaw and fake smiled as he spoke. How am I going to put up with Wormtail when I know that he’s a murderer?

Naw, shit.

“So, have you got the marauders map yet?” I asked to change the subject.

“How do you know about that?” he asked, eyes flashing dangerously.

“Well, it was given to me and my brother quite a while ago.”

“In the future?”

“Yeah, a long time ago in the future.” I nodded.

“So what are James and I up to in the future hey? I know that you know me, and assuming we’re still friends, you’d have met both of us.” Sirius smiled. “Unless one of us is dead. We’re not dead are we?” he added, looking at my facial expression.

“Spoilers.” I said, reciting Doctor Who.

“Do I have kids?” he asked.

“Can’t say.”

“Do I have hair? Or did I go bald.”

“Bald.”

“NOO!”

“Kidding.”

“This isn’t fair! You know so much about me, yet I know not enough about you.” Sirius whined.

“All in good time Sirius Black. All in good time.” I smiled. “So, did you stop being an arse to Snape when I told you to?”

“Err, about that-“

“You dog!” I said, then I started laughing because that’s his Animagus.

“What’s funny about calling me a dog?” he said baffled.

“Spoilers.” I said between laughing at myself. “So, how did you and your friends get their names?”

“Well, Wormtail looks a bit like a rat....”

“When he tries to transform to become Animagi?” I asked innocently.

“STOP KNOWING THINGS!”

“Can’t help it!”

“SIRIUS!” a voice shrieked up the stairwell. “Your cousins are here!”

“Shit.” He mumbled. “Bellatrix. Willow, hide under my bed, go on.”

And I remained cooped up under Sirius black’s bed for the remainder of the day; it was dusty, just saying.

                                                                                **** **** ****

The next week was over before I knew it, and I was hitching a ride to platform nine and three quarters with the Black family. However, I didn’t have a trunk or any supplies, or any gold, and my existence was only known to Sirius.

Well, at least I have a wand.

“Are you even listed for existing yet?” Lucy asked me.

“I dunno...”

“If you’re not, you could conjure up a trunk and all of your things.” She said slyly.

I tried not to think about doing it, but then I did. I snuck off into the bathrooms in muggle London, and magic-ified a trunk full of things.

“Wish me luck.” I muttered to myself, dragging the heavy trunk out of the lavatory. I met Sirius outside; apparently his parents had already left. How affectionate.

Anyway, I started to head for the barrier, but he hit me.

“Where are you going?”

“To platform nine and three quarters?” I said in an unnaturally high voice.

“What’s that?” Sirius asked.

I felt my brain explode because I was so unbelievably confused it didn’t make sense with llamas and alpacas.

“Then where are we going?”

“To platform nine and a half...What? Is it different in the future?”

“Yeah...” I said awkwardly.

We went to a different barrier between platforms nine and ten, and we ended up on platform nine and a half.

Weird.

It was like exactly the same as platform nine and three quarters, in fact, the only difference I found was in the actual platform name.

I'm never going to get used to this.

Sirius dragged me up onto the train (which looked Identical to the future train)and pulled me into a compartment.

“Willow, meet James.”
