𝖎𝖛. The sapphire

𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐏𝐓𝐄𝐑 𝐅𝐎𝐔𝐑 ─ THE SAPPHIRE
❝ you would still 𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬 𝐦𝐞 in 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐛𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐬 ❞

𝐄verything had changed since what had happened on Driftmark. One of the first few changes was the death of her father Laenor Velaryon, and her mothers marriage to her uncle Daemon Targaryen. Another one of the changes was the split between Aemma and Aemond. Once Rhaenyra married Daemon, Aemma, her brothers and cousin/step-sisters were moved to Dragonstone, creating more divide between the greens and the blacks.

It had been but a year and Aemond and his twin's, Vaenora's, 13th nameday was coming up. Aemma had begged her mother to venture to to Kings landing to be there for it, but as Daemon rejected her request, Rhaenyra followed suit. And so she then begged for an alternative, to send Aemond a simple present, and after some days of begging, she was allowed.

And so as Aemond and Vaenora sat beside each other, with lords presenting their gifts to them, a messenger stepped up, claiming to be a messenger from dragonstone,  with a present in his hands, claiming it to be from Aemma for the Prince Aemond, Aemond had bounded out of his seat and took the gift from the man.

It was a eyepatch. Made of wood and leather, with a elastic band, so he could fit it perfectly around his face A soft cotton was on the inside, as to not have wood rubbing against his scar. Aemonds face brightened at the gift as his sister and mother came up behind him to see his gift.

"It is quite nice brother." Vaenora's dreamlike voice spoke from beside him.

"Yes, go put it with the others." Alicent's voice said, in a dismissive tone.

"No, I wish to put it on." Aemond requested. All this time, he had been wearing gauze and bandage wraps to cover his face, an eyepatch would be an upgrade.

"Aemond, your scar." Alicent reminded.

"My scar has fairly healed, it can be covered." Aemond walked back to his seat and stood before it, beginning to take off the bandage that was wrapped around his head, placing it on the armrest of his chair. Once Aemond was finished, he turned back around and the eyepatch covered his eye, and the sapphire within it.

𝐀 few moons had passed before Aemmas name day came around. She had recieved no word from Kings landing after she sent her gift to Aemond, but it had been the same since before she had done so, so it wasn't quite a disappointment, though Aemma wished that she recieved just a letter showing thanks, yet she went on.

Aemma's 12th name day was coming, and her mother planed on throwing a private feast for the family, the night before the noble families arrived with gifts for her. The music played, as the people conversed, and before long, it was time for gifts.

The music began to play lowly in the background as lords began to approach the high table with their gifts. Multiple necklaces and other different types of jewelry. Soon enough, it was her families time to give her gifts. Her mother stood up as two servants came in with a chest. They walked up to the high table and placed it in front of her, opening it up, letting her see the multitude of scrolls within it.

"I had sent to the citadel for more texts on Old Valyria for you, my dear girl." Ever since Aemma claimed Balerion, she had begun to read more about Old Valyria, after hearing the speculation that that was where Balerion had flown when he went missing.

Aemma looked to Rhaenyra and smiled brightly. "Thank you mother, it's wonderful."

Rhaenyra smiled back and nodded at the servants, causing them to close the chest and take it to the side table with all the other gifts. Her brothers' gifts came next, a large dragon saddle. Balerion had no saddle for her to be seated in, unlike Aemond when he first claimed Vhagar with her, he strangely only had a rope up the side of him, for someone to climb. It was mainly made of leather, and had different detailing's, of both silver and gold, on the front of it, looking like dragon scales.

Her three brothers stood up. "A dragon saddle for Balerion, sister." Lucerys said.

"We all contributed with it. Even little Joffrey." Jacaerys said, causing Aemma to smile and look past them to her youngest brother, who smiled shyly back at her "We hope to take to the skies with you one day, sister." Jacaerys added.

"It's an amazing gift, brothers." Aemma smiled. "In fact," she looked over at the servants, "take the saddle and have it put on Balerion now." She looked over at her brothers as the servants moved to follow her orders, "I would like to fly with you two after the celebrations." Her brothers smiled and sat back down. "I would also like to one day fly with you," she looked at Joffrey, "when your dragon is old enough and you're old enough to ride him."

Her step-sisters' gifts were next, and servants came in with a chest. They came up to the table and set it down in front of her, opening it, letting her see the folded dresses within it. There seemed to be plenty of dresses in the chest, only hidden by the red and gold and black and crimson dresses on top. Aemma reached in the chest, running her hand over the red silk fabric of one of the red and gold one as Baela spoke up from across the table, standing next to Rhaena.

"Dresses made of Roenathi silk, sister."

"They are beautiful," Aemma looked over at the two girls, smiling graciously, "thank you, sisters."

The two girls sat down as the chest was taken to the gift table and their father, Daemons, gift for Aemma was brought in. A rectangular box was brought up and placed in front of her. The servants opened it, and let her see the dagger within it. Rhaenyra casted a glance at Daemon as he stood up with his usual smirk on his face.

"A dagger, made out of Valyrian Steel, daughter." Daemon spoke. Aemma reached in the box, pulling out the dagger.

"Be careful." Rhaenyra suddenly said.

Aemma nodded, not taking her eyes off the dagger, seeing the small ripples in the steel that distinguished it to be valyrian steel. The pommel of it was gold, and shaped to be like dragon scales, the tip of the pommel forming into a dragon head, small red rubies being the dragons eyes.

"Like swords, all great daggers should have a name." Daemon spoke, leaning on one arm against the table.

Aemma ran her thumb over the small ruby of the dragons left eye, covering it before her other thumb covered the right as she looked up at Daemon.

"Dragons eye."

Daemon hummed, nodding. "A fine name, for a fine blade."

Aemma nodded and looked back at the blade, before placing it back in the box, closing it, letting the servants take it over to the table with the other gifts.

The music livened up as the feast began, food being brought out to the tables and placed on plates. It was only moments after that the doors opened once more.

"A gift from Kings Landing."

Aemma perked up at the announcers words, placing her fork down. Rhaenyra looked over incredulously as the music lowered back down as everyone looked over confused.

"Bring it here." Aemma said, standing up, holding her hand out.

The servant brought over a small box, placing it in her hand. Aemma opened up the box almost too excitedly and found a necklace of pearls with a sapphire in the shape of a tear drop, outlined by clusters of small diamonds, hanging down in the middle, the clasp made of valyrian steel.

Aemma ran her finger over the blue jewel, looking up at the servant. "Do you know who this is from?" She inquired, hoping, if the man did know who it came from, it to be from who she thought it was from.

"It came with a letter, from the Prince Aemond." The servant held out the letter.

Aemma almost snatched it out of his hand, unfolding it with haste.

'To my lovely niece,
Now you carry a part of me with you, always
Love, Aemond'

Aemma couldn't help the grin that formed on her face as she read it over, though she didn't quite know what it meant she still smiled.

"Let me see." Rhaenyra said, standing up, going behind her to look over her shoulder at the letter, Daemon doing the same. Rhaenyra read over the words, her brow furrowing.

Aemma folded back up the note and put it on the table her hands going over to the necklace, pulling it out the box. She held it up in one hand, her other tracing over the curves made by the pearls, then down towards the sapphire before turning it around so it faced the room, her hand moving to unclasp it from itself. She, with little struggle, placed it around her neck and hair, clasping it back and pulling her hair from under it to cover it.

Little had she known the sapphire in her necklace was mined from the same sapphire stone as the one in Aemond's eye.

And so, Aemma Velaryon would carry a part of him with her, always.
