11. Lies
"You don't really care about your sister, do you?" Patricia bangs her fist on the table.
Nina is called to Williamson Castle after the whole 'running away' fiasco. Fabian wanted to join her but she bravely said she could handle her. She has had enough.
"You don't have any right to say that!" Nina shouts back.
"You sure don't act like it. Haven't I ordered you to stay in close vicinity until the elections? You put Mara in danger!"
"I know how to protect my sister. You don't have to boss around. The only reason I am still here is because Mara has this blind trust in you. The day she realizes the truth, we are out of here!"
"There is no truth to hide. You are an ungrateful little bitch. I did so much for you girls and this is how you repay me?" Nina scoffs at that.
"Keep your acting up for the drama classes. I ain't falling for that anymore." Nina turns to go towards the door but Patricia holds her wrist. In a reflex action, Nina turned her hand behind Patricia's back, pressing it.
"I said don't mess with me! The day I have enough proof, you are on no one's mercy." Nina threatens before losing the grip on her hand. Dumbfounded, Patricia just stands there, noticing the growing confidence in Nina.
"I must not take any chances." She murmurs under her breath.

"Do you really think it's a good idea?" Alphie asks Nina with concern.
Nina wanted Mara to meet Jerome and know his identity, that he is their father. But Alphie was not that sure.
"It's the first step to let her know the true face of Patricia." Nina says in deep thought.
"Also, to get on her nerves." Fabian says smiling, to lighten up the mood.
"Good idea." Nina chuckles. "I know it is risky, but we have to take our steps now. Patricia can't really do anything in front of Mara so this the best way to finally reveal her true colors."
"People make mistakes when they feel they are threatened." Fabian adds.
Alphie sighs and looks up Jerome's schedule. "He is free tomorrow afternoon. Should I set up a meeting in his office?"
"No, I have a better place. The new amusement park. 4 in the afternoon." She says and goes to tell Mara about it.

Jerome looks around before walking towards the back entrance. He had to reach the amusement park without Patricia knowing about it and he parked the car at least a few miles away from the actual location. At first, he was surprised that it was Nina who wanted to meet him, but he could not let it get into his head. He had to plan this carefully around Patricia.
As he reaches the park, he sees his two daughters standing. Nina looks just like her mother. As he was wearing casual clothes, he doubted that she would recognize him. But to his surprise she did. Nina tapped on Mara's shoulder.
"DAD!" Mara runs to hug Jerome. He catches her into his arms and hugs her tightly, trying to control his tears. He lifts his head to see Nina but she turns her head to another side. It seems like she was crying as well.
"How did you know?" Jerome says kissing her forehead.
"Nina told me. I always had a sense and I am so glad you turned out to be our father!" Mara holds his hand and drags him to Nina, "Nina give dad a hug!" she nudged him.
Jerome opens up his arms but Nina turns her back towards him. "Let's...let's try out the rides, shall we?"
It broke his heart but he knows he deserves it.
"Yes, why not? We will have the best day of our lives here!" he says lowering his arms. Mara runs ahead of them, screaming, "Catch me if you can!"
Nina stares at them, with tears in her eyes.
FLASHBACK
"Okay Nina, listen. Don't cry baby doll. Whenever you are lost, remember I will always come to find you, okay?" Jerome says patting little Nina's back.
It was Nina's 6th birthday and they had come on a trip to the amusement park with her mom and 'uncle'. She always thought of him as his own father. When they entered the park, they went on all the rides but in the meantime, she left Jerome's hand and drifted away. When she realized she was alone, she started crying loudly, calling out for her mother. Suddenly an arm pulled her into a warm and lovable hug.
"Oh, thank god...you are here!" Jerome says panting. Nina starts to sob more and hugs him tightly.
"I.....I.....thought you left me!" she says between sobs.
"Shh...shh....how can I leave my princess? Do not...I repeat...do not ever leave my hand, okay?" he pulls away and points her to promise him.
"I promise."
"If you ever get lost, remember I am right here. I'll always be here."
That was the best day of her life.
FLASHBACK ENDS
Nina looks at her hands and buries her face in them, silently sobbing.
"I am lost dad. Will you come to find me?" she looks up and sees her father enjoying with Mara. She watches as her sister walks around happily with her 'newly found' dad and it breaks her heart to tell her the truth. Maybe this could wait. Maybe I should not tell her today.
After hours of jumping and walking around, they finally sit down at a café. Jerome starts up the conversation right away.
"I know why you wanted to meet me today Nina." Nina fiddles with her fingers. She was still confused about whether to talk about it now or no. Jerome senses it but still continues.
I have to once and for all finish this.
"Your mother and I met in college. We fell in love and Nina happened. But later, due to stress from her work, she started taking 'recreational drugs'. We used to fight a lot because of this. I finally did divorce her but later found she was pregnant with Mara. It was already late. She had moved to New York."
"NO! All lies! You never married mom! Mom never did any drugs! Those were medicines she took because of you! Because you refused to accept her! But did she ever complain? No! All she wanted was you to look after your own children!" Nina shouts at him, banging her fist on the table.
"How old were you Nina?" Jerome says calmly.
He had to do this. He had to break his daughters' hearts.
Nina becomes silent at that. Even though she was small, she could feel the sadness of her mother. She could feel how lonely she was. She would never show it on her face but she was struggling. Struggling with her work. Struggling to feed her two children.
"You would not remember everything because you were small. Your mother manipulated you into thinking that I was the villain. I wasn't. And neither is Patricia." He looks at Mara now. Mara has been silent this whole time but she finally opens her mouth.
"No." she whispers.
"Huh?" Jerome asks dumbstruck. He was so sure that Mara would believe him.
"I said no! Mom was never like that! The night she died, she was waiting for you. And you never showed up! How dare you say things like that about her? You never loved her! And Patricia?" she scoffs before continuing, "I would never believe her over my own sister. You both have done enough to create a rift between us, but this is the end." Mara stands up and takes Nina's hand, "Let's go, Nina. I was a fool to call him my dad. He is nothing but a liar."
Nina looks at her sister in awe. She has grown up! It doesn't take Nina long to follow Mara out of the café.
"You are a coward Jerome." Nina remarks before exiting.
