Omegas were naturally good with children. Their maternal instincts urged them to protect and nurture. However, Jungkook loved children a bit too much. He knew he wanted to become a teacher when he was only thirteen.
After spending an entire day, helping his cousins babysit their children at a wedding he just knew he wanted to do it for the rest of his life. Because playing with those little children and teaching them new things brought him more joy that anything else.
Not to mention, he was a child magnet. Kids just loved him. It could be his soft berry scent or the warm aura around him.
Once upon a time, Jungkook wanted a family for himself. Wanted children of his own. However, after how his one and only relationship ended so badly, he was too scared to hope for another relationship. With a heavy heart, he had settled for this job where he got to spend time with children.
He never had trouble with any children ever. But this child was different. He didn't talk or even look at Jungkook. Minjun followed his instructions, doing what was necessary. On top of that, he didn't even attempt to make friends and growled low when other kids tried to get closer. Jungkook gently told the other children to give him some time to get used to the school and leave him be.
Once in a while, Jungkook would receive a troublemaker. But this kid didn't look like a troublemaker. There was just so much behind those dark brown orbs. A heavy sadness and longing he couldn't put his finger on.
Jungkook was late to work in the morning, so he couldn't talk to Minjun's parent in person. He made a note to talk to them later to understand if there was something he needed to know about Minjun.
In the evening, the chance to talk came naturally when he was called to the principal's office.
"Ah, Jungkook-ssi, please come," the principal greeted. "Mr. Jung, this is Mr. Jeon Jungkook. He's Minjun's class teacher."
The alpha in fashionable clothes stood from his seat and extended his hand with a bright smile. "Hello, I'm Jung Hoseok. Minjun's uncle."
"Oh." Jungkook frowned, shaking his hand. Where was his parent?
"I'm sorry I came without notice. I couldn't meet you in morning," Hoseok explained. His style was catchy and he radiated a warm, welcoming aura. "I wanted to have a word with you in Minjun's absence."
Jungkook slanted a glance toward the principal. "Sure. We can go to the cafeteria. The children are all in their respective classes now."
"That'd be wonderful." Mr. Jung inclined his head at the principal and followed Jungkook outside.
They took a seat after taking a cup of coffee. "Are you his guardian?" Jungkook asked.
"Yes. I'm one of Jimin's friends," Mr. Jung said. "Park Jimin is Minjun's dad. He works as a financial advisor and has a very demanding job. We take turns to help him with Minjun. There are two more people Kim Seokjin and Kim Namjoon who are listed as his guardians."
Jungkook hummed and sipped his coffee. He wondered about Minjun's other parent, but didn't voice out because that'd be rude. "What is that you wanted to talk about?" he asked instead.
Mr. Jung's face turned serious and he exhaled. "I'll be honest, Mr. Jeon. Minjun's parents were separated even before his birth. Jimin got his custody and has been raising him alone since then. He had a live in nanny since his birth, but the woman recently quit her job to take care of her grandchild. She went back to her village."
That answered his question earlier. Jungkook listened carefully.
"Minjun is a sweet child, but this sudden change has caused some problems." Mr. Jung sipped his coffee. "It takes time for him warm up to the strangers and Jimin had to fire three nannies in past two months for varied reasons. He caught the last one yelling at Minjun. Jimin had to change schools again because Minjun refused to go to that school and he got into a few fights with other kids. The school management is simply pinning it on Minjun while a few other kids said that the children who got into the fight were provoking him." He sighed. "I decided to meet you in person to ask for your patience and understanding. Jimin is having a hard time as it is. We are trying to do our best with Minjun and get him used to the recent changes. But without an omega's comfort, it's hard. Can you keep an eye on him? He doesn't like it when he's forced to do things. He's really a great kid. He just needs some time to adjust."
Jungkook offered and assuring smile. Of course he understood. A child needed both his alpha and omega parent's scent to comfort him. It was very difficult without either of that. He felt bad for the little boy and vowed to make his class a better place for him.
"Thank you for telling me this, Mr. Jung. Don't worry about Minjun. He's my responsibility. Rest assured I'll do my best to make him feel comfortable while he is here."
Mr. Jung nodded. "The Principal told me you are one of the best teachers in this school and the most loved among the children. I really hope this works for Jimin's sake and of course for Minjun's sake."
Jungkook nodded with a soft smile. "I will work hard."
