Dickie Knows

Liv growled in annoyance. She's been denied coffee for the third time this morning, which is starting to turn heads. Fin had originally offered to get her coffee this morning, but she denied it saying her doctor wants her to avoid caffeine for a while. She then tried to sneak some of Elliot's coffee when he went to the bathroom, but he came back too soon and took it from her. This last time she walked, or rather waddled, to the coffee machine to pour a small cup for herself and Cragen walked by her, grabbing it out of her hands.

She was officially on desk duty now. Her blood pressure couldn't handle the field work at the moment. The baby was hating the looks of blood as well, so Doctor Greyson decided that she'd be best to be on desk duty until after the baby was born. Liv pouted around her apartment for a whole day until Elliot came over later that night. It wasn't a Friday, but he knew she needed him. He knew that Kathy wouldn't like it, but so what.

"Kathy, I'm not having this argument with you!" Elliot shouted. He had been trying to avoid this very thing for too long. She had bombarded him with accusations that were partially true when he got home from sex with Liv.

He'd stopped by the bar and had at least one beer on the way home, just to have the smell on him. As he took off his jacket, Kathy scoffed. "You are unbelievable! I've been home with Eli all day and you come home late ONCE AGAIN!"

Elliot gritted his teeth to keep his cool. He wanted to be a better person for the new baby than he's been in the past for the older four, not to mention Eli. He was almost two years old and didn't need his father angry. "Kathy, we have those drinks to shake off the week."

"Is Liv there every week?" Kathy asked, crossing her arms.

Elliot shrugged as if it was no big deal. "Not to drink. She's pregnant. I've told you." He went to the kitchen to grab an apple from the bowl. He glared at Kathy as he passed her, biting into the apple as he went to relax on the couch.

"Who's the father?" Kathy asked, standing in front of him, hands on her hips.

He slowly chewed the bite, forcing Kathy to wait and tap her foot impatiently. He was seriously debating coming out and telling her that he was the father, but he promised Liv he'd keep his mouth shut until a good moment happened. This was no where near the moment. "She won't say," he stated with a shrug.

She stomped her foot and groaned, walking away. Elliot smirked as she left and continued to eat his apple. Once she was upstairs, he took out the ultrasound picture that she gave him last week. It showed the gender perfectly and how big he was growing. Elliot couldn't believe that he was going to have another son.

"Dad?" Dickie shut the door behind him. He had been studying at a friends house. "What's that?" He dropped his bag and pointed to the picture.

"Oh, Liv's pregnant. She didn't understand how to properly read it, so she had me to help her. In return, she gave me this," Elliot lied smoothly. "It's a boy."

Elliot thought that Dickie would accuse him of cheating, but he didn't. He nodded slowly and sat down beside him. "You're the father," he said simply. Low, to the point where Elliot wasn't very sure if he heard it right. However, the look of peace on his son's face made him nod.

"Yeah," Elliot whispered, clearing his throat. He handed the other half of the apple to Dickie, who took it and bite into it. "How'd you know?" Elliot studied Dickie's face as he took the ultrasound and looked it over.

"Because you looked at this picture the same way you looked at Eli's. They same way you look at all of us kids. Protective, loving." Dickie looked at Elliot and gave a half smile as he handed the picture back. "What will you tell mom?"

He honestly had no idea. Looking at the picture again, he shook his head. "I've no idea, but I can't continue like this much longer," he said softly.

Dickie nodded. "I heard the fighting as the cab pulled up."

Elliot wanted to come clean to someone that wasn't Cragen about what he and Liv were actually doing, but he wasn't sure if Dickie would be able to handle it. He was the father, not the friend. Dickie sighed. "All I know, is that this is not a happy house."

On Monday, Elliot went by Liv's to pick her up for work. She came out with a cute blue top that showed her belly off. Elliot smiled at her as she got in. "Hey," she greeted a little too chipper. His eyes narrowed suspiciously.

"Did you have coffee?" He asked.

She laughed at him. "No, I slept good. Your son wanted some pizza and he finally got some last night. Mac and cheese pizza with extra cheese sauce on top." Elliot snarled his nose in disgust. Liv laughed at his face. "Hey, it was good."

"Uh-huh, you keep that to yourself," he grinned as they headed to the station house. It was about five minutes in before Elliot said, "Dickie knows."

Liv had been relaxed and rubbing her stomach when he stated that. She blinked several times before she opened her mouth and then closed it again. Elliot took that moment to explain further before she went off the handle. "He's not mad. In fact he's happy and wants Eli and the baby to have a happy life that isn't full of yelling like his was."

She blinked back some tears and smiled at him. "What are we going to do?"

Elliot shrugged. "I almost told her Friday night."

"WHY?!" Liv asked very loudly.

"She was yelling and telling me I shouldn't go for drinks on Friday," Elliot shrugged it off. "I'm not sure what we're going to do."
