2 years before...

A baby cry came from the room at the end of the home hallway and woke me up.
I rubbed my eyes yawning while the body next to me moved a little.

-I'm going, don't worry- I said in a low voice to him.

I got up from the bed and walked towards my daughter's room.

She was lying in her little bed crying, she was probably hungry.
I took her in my arms and tried to calm her.

-It's ok honey, now we are going to take some milk ok?- I told her.

I went downstairs and once I arrived at the kitchen I took some milk from the fridge and the baby started drinking.

April was the name of the baby and she was my daughter.
She was 6 months year old and I still couldn't believe that God wanted to give me her.

After a few minutes she calmed and I couldn't resist to smile and kiss her on the forehead.

She was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen.

I felt two arms hugging me from behind: he was Tyler, my fiancee. We were going to get married in a couple of months but we were together since years.

-She is gorgeous- he said referring to April.
-Yeah she is. She is so pure and innocent- I said.

He kissed me and took a cup of coffee.
-I have to leave early for work, I'll be back tonight- he said and I nodded.

Tyler was a taxi driver and I worked for the police.

He kissed me again and then left.
After April finished drinking I put her again in her bed and went downstairs to the kitchen for having breakfast.

I was cleaning the bedroom, a couple of hours later, when I heard the noise of a broken window.

My first thought was April.

I started running towards her but a man appeared at the bedroom door.
He was pointing a gun to me, his face was covered by a black mask and a black hood.

-What do you want?!- I said.
-Go take your baby. Don't try to escape- he said.

I nodded and slowly walked towards April.

She started crying again, she could feel the danger.

-Stop her!- the man yelled.

I tried to calm her but she probably felt my fear and cried loudly.
-I said stop her!- the man yelled again.
-I'm trying to!- I said.

Finally she stopped crying and the man ordered me to put her again on her bed.

I could feel the fear growing and growing and I was praying someone to come as soon as possible.

-Sit there!- the man ordered pointing a point on the ground in front of April's bed.

-I... I won't leave her- I said.
He took my arm and throw me against the wall.

I think I hit my head because for a second I saw everything blurred.
The man tied my hands and feet and then went to April.

-Don't touch her pleae- I said starting crying.

My head was trying to find a way to escape, but if I would have taken April we would always end both dead.
The man pointed the gun to April.

-No! No please please no! I'll do everything you want! Please!- I said.

-Shut up! Or it will be worse!- he said.

I couldn't stop crying and praying that everything would end in a good way.
The man caressed April's cheek slowly.

-Please... Kill me but not her- I said crying.

The man looked at me and smiled.
-Everything is going to be fine- he said.

He pointed the gun again to April. One second and everything stopped.
I saw a blood stain on April's shirt. April, my world, my everything, was dead.

-I'm sorry for your loss- the man said.

Was he kidding me?!
I looked at him, anger and tears in my eyes.

-You monster!- I yelled at him.

He approached and pointed the gun to me.

-Don't worry you'll see her soon- he said.

He shot to me.

Present day

I woke up suddenly, all sweat. Another night, another nightmeare.
I went to the bathroom and looked in the mirror: I could clearly see the scar on my stomach, a memory from the day when my life changed.

April... How much I missed her!

Someone knocked at the door. I wore quickly a shirt and a pair of jeans, opening the door a few minutes later.

-The boss wants you, there is a new member- Tom said.

Tom was a member of our group and the boss was a powerful man called Chris.

-I'm coming-.

I followed Tom until Chris' office and once I entered I found him with a man: he was tall, pretty body, blonde hair.

-Oh here you are!- Chris said -I want to introduce you our new member, Steve-.

He smiled.
