Part 1: The Legend

(y/n) came from a poor, little town. Grew up baking pies and making friendships that lasted lifetimes. The town was established by honesty and a humble, kind, and generous community. But some bandits would come and take whatever they wanted; money, alcohol, sometimes women. Her father would hide them in the attic when dealing with those bandits. But, one day, push came to shove and your father couldn't defend your family. The bandits took her mother and murdered her. It was awful, the Wild West.

(y/n) knew that something had to change, someone had to become a hero or find someone who could be the hero to your little humdrum town. She heard stories of a hero who wore a big cowboy hat. Boots with spin-star blades attached to the heel, and a red handkerchief around his neck. He was a real legend.

(y/n) heard stories that legends were motivated by money and were only heroes for a price. They saved up coins, so many coins of different sizes into a little brow bag. It wasn't a lot, but it was honest money.

Her father was so displeased by the idea of sending her out to find this so-called legend, that he thought it was too dangerous for a dainty thing like her. While (y/n) was getting her horse ready, she wore a comfy cape that hugged her and kept her warm, her hiking boots, her dress with a corset, a belt with things attached to it, and the money bag safely secured in her bosom, pressed against her breast and the fabric. She was pretty, with striking (eye/color).

It was a long line of goodbyes from the town. Some men secured the horse, and some women packed her things with food and water, and she was hugged and kissed on the cheek. But her father looked so upset at her, (y/n) frowned ".. don't be upset at me daddy, I gotta go"

Her father shook his head "You don't got to go anywhere" staring at her silently for a moment before asking, thinking about her plan, what she convinced everyone with, ".. run me through this again".

"... get to Denver, find the legend, get him to our town, get rid of those bandits, then pay the man" (y/n) spoke confidently like it was the easiest thing in the world, but her father hummed, nodding his head slowly, "Uh huh," He believed that this was the most outrageous thing that he has ever heard from his very careful, cautious, scared to hold a firefly because it might sting her despite them not having stingers, daughter of 21 years old.

He was so skeptical, (y/n) gave a comforting smile, "I know what I'm doin' daddy.. you've taught me everything I know" touching his arm, and her father started to grow into a smile before nodding his head, embracing her, "I know kid" after a while, she pulled away.

Then a woman held (y/n)'s face and smiled so big at her, "Oh, I have all the confidence in our little (nickname)" and she offered advice. "When you see that so-called legend, you pinch his ear and drag him by the ear until you see us again, it's the only way" making (y/n) laugh, and nod her head gently. (y/n) was so loved by her town, she was the heart of this town.

But, there was only one person that she thought about as she was getting ready to leave. (y/n) had such a little crush on Clyde ever since she was a little girl. They grew up together, singing and laughing, her crush started when he held a firefly in his hands to show her the little critter because he knew she was afraid. And Clyde chased a little after the horse while (y/n) was riding away, holding his hand up to the sky, and yelling after her ".. I'll wait for you (y/n)... When you come back, I'll be here" and he made her heart swoon.

(y/n) rode to so many towns in Denver, and went to so many bars because she heard stories of the legend loving alcohol and women. Her patience was starting to wear thin by the men catcalling her, and flirting with her, and most importantly the fact that her legend wasn't at the bars she went into. Until she got lucky.

(y/n) walked into this bar that had a mirror in the back rows of alcohol, and a bartender polishing a glass, it seemed so loud in there with laughing, playing pool, and darts. It was a different energy from anything that she's experienced back home. She noticed a lazy figure with his boots on the table, flirting underneath a large cowboy hat with a brunette laughing next to him, under his arm in this little corner of the bar. There was no way he was her legend, he looked short of one. Nothin' that she ever imagined to be a legend.

The man in the corner was Stan. Stan was the legend that she's heard so many stories about.

As soon as (y/n) walked into the bar, she instantly caught his eye, he didn't see a lot of (hair/color) in these parts or in these bars, and he absolutely knew that he had to know her name. She was pretty and looked so interesting to him. He kept her in his eyeline, though hardly letting off the attention he was giving to the brunette next to him, not really hearing his sweet (hair/color)'s voice at first.

(y/n) spoke a little softly towards the bartender, "Excuse me" but the bartender didn't hear her over the laughing, and then walked away to serve someone else. Stan thought she was really cute trying to get the barkeeper's attention.

And (y/n) grew a little shy at her attempts before she knocked on the wooden counter, and spoke louder, practically yelling over the noise, when the bartender walked to the back shelves to grab some liquor, "Excuse me" her annoyed tone caught the bartender's attention for a second, and he leaned over the table, but she didn't know she was to continue speaking, she expected a response of acknowledgment but didn't get one from him.

She carefully spoke again ".. I'm looking for someone" Getting a little caught off guard when the bartender started walking away. (y/n) opened her mouth, and closed it again before she followed down the bar a little in hopes of keeping his attention, ".. I was wondering if you might've seen 'em" The bar seemed to get louder, and the barkeeper pointed to his ear, he didn't hear a word she's said, (y/n) grew a little frustrated and raised her voice, ".. Marsh.. I'm looking for a Stanley Marsh"

Her voice would've boomed a little, the bar got instantly silent as everyone looked at her.

Stan started to feel lucky, the pretty (hair/color) that blew in here from wherever the hell came specifically looking for him, hiding underneath his hat to hide his smile, he took a sip of his beer before continuing to flirt and talk to the girl beside him again, he made her approach him.

The barkeeper polished a glass before setting it on the table, nudging to the corner with his head, which made (y/n) follow to the corner where the man that hid under his hat flirted with the girl beside him. She started to feel embarrassed, and nervous, turning back to the bartender and giving a small smile, ".. thank you" which earned a nod. (y/n) had no idea what to expect from a legend, how they would act, or how to speak to them about saving her little town.

But she knew she had to try, she didn't come here to find him just to return to her town with nothing.

And (y/n) approached him. She walked carefully over and stood, messed with her belt a little before she said gently ".. hello" She had no idea where to even begin.

The first thing that attracted Stan instantly was her eyes, they were so (eye/color), and determined, so beautiful, he looked up at her from his hat lazily, growing into a smile while he studied her, not bothering to give a proper greeting.

Again, (y/n) was expecting a response, it created a little awkward silence before she continued, ".. My name is (first/name) (last/name).. but, you may call me (nickname) if you'd like to" his eyes pierced right through her, it made her so nervous, seeing his face under the hat was so strange.

She'd never imagine a legend of his attitude to have soft eyes, ".. and.."

"Why do you go by (nickname) instead of (first name)?" Stan asked so quickly, it completely cut her off, he thought her full name was so pretty, but her nickname was so childish like a common farm girl's name or something.

(y/n) studied his expression, it seemed like a genuine question, he had facial hair and a bear claw scar going diagonally across his face, she spoke carefully, ".. just.. quicker to say" which earned a little hum and a nod of his head while he reached and took a sip of his beer. It grew a little quiet between them, made (y/n) feel like she was completely messing this up lmao

She tried again, ".. I rode on my horse to different towns, and bars to find you, it took nearly a week to.." (y/n) seemed to ramble, Stan placed the glass down, his smile shifting into a more teasing and playful one, she seemed very tense, ".. so, say what you want to say quicker, (nickname)" which made the girl beside him laugh a little.

(y/n)'s eyes shifted from Stan to the girl, then back to him again, ".. I need your help" speaking bluntly, a little faster. She watched how he seemed a little unimpressed, maybe even a little uninterested in what she was about to ask, (y/n) thought for a second before moving her cap away for a moment and reaching into her corset. She knew this was to pay him after he did the task, but she needed to keep his attention on what she was going to ask for, understanding that he may not do things like this anymore, she dropped the little bag of coins onto the table. It was so small, definitely hardly weighed anything.

Stan stared at the bag, tilting his head a little to try and get another angle at it, hoping that it'll look bigger, he shifted his eyes back to her, keeping his teasing smile, ".. aren't I supposed to pay you for services instead of the other way around?" His joke was sleazy.

It annoyed (y/n), she shook her head, ".. my town has been in trouble for years now.. and you're really the only person that can change anythin'"

Stan couldn't help but roll his eyes at her, he really wasn't the same person that she was looking for anymore, ".. look, you're really very cute..." pausing as if he was trying to remember her name, "...(nickname), but saving your town for this.." He reached forward to grab the bag, feeling the weight in his hand, "little bag does not interest me in the slightest"

(y/n) stared, speaking quickly, ".. there's more than just that" which seemed to catch his interest, he shifted a little more comfortably in his seat, pausing for a second before asking, ".. how much more, sweetheart?"

And she knew lying was wrong and it was punishable, but it was so necessary at the moment, ".. thousands more" Stan had a glimmer in his eye when he heard that, a pretty rich (hair/color) that blew in from wherever the hell she came from just to find him, he stared at her silently while he thought. Cha-ching-cha-ching rang in his ears while he looked at her, he looked neutral.

(y/n) had no idea what he was thinking while he stared at him, but she continued gently, pleasingly with a soft pouty lip ".. please.. " batting her pretty eyes a little while she looked desperate, a damsel in distress, ".. I need your help" her tone was so sweet like honey, and she looked so sweet.

Stan weighed out her request, it would've been years since he ever played the hero of a town, mostly relying on his trickery and quick pace of theft in the past years, but she was so pretty and was asking specifically for him. And for a second, he was going to give in, follow her back to whatever town, and save it, but then he rethought it, Stan shook his head, ".. I'm sorry, sugar" feeling the money bag in his hand before adding, ".. I'll be keeping this though" shaking the bag a little while his fingertips held the top of it.

(y/n) felt so disappointed, her expression dropped a little and she frowned, speaking through her teeth as politely as she could, ".. thank you for your time" She was so mad, and he took the only amount of money that she had. Turning on her heel, she walked out of the bar. Stan watched her leave carefully in thought, feeling his bottom lip with his index finger while he shifted his eyes away and to the brunette next to him, who was pretty and laughed at his jokes, but she wasn't rich or had pretty eyes like the (hair/color) that he let walk away.

He started to feel a little regretful.

(y/n) stomped out and down the stairs to her white horse that she rode named Betsy. She talked to this horse like she was human, ".. I found him, alright.. sleazy.. lazy... most frustrating thing I've ever met.." petting Betsy's white hair and speaking out of frustration, ".. and even though he declined, he still took the bag" muttering through anger, she didn't hear footsteps behind her, ".. well, I just oughta.." but stopping completely when she heard a male voice,

".. you oughta what?" And (y/n) looked over her shoulder, seeing Stan lean against a wooden post with his arms crossed.

She let out a gentle scoff and turned fully to face him, ".. you've come to take my horse as well?" Anger was sexy on her, Stan grew into a teasing smile, shaking his head "Of course not... you haven't offered her as payment for saving your town" And he watched how her expression flattened, it was so cute, she shook her head while she asked a little sharply, ".. why did you come out here? To tease me?"

Stan pushed himself off the wooden post to walk a little closer to her, keeping his arms crossed and revealing his true height to her, he was so tall, he practically towered over her, looked down at her a little, an entire head or two above of her, he shrugged a little, ".. maybe a little" watching her frown at him before adding after a moment of silence, ".. what type of trouble has your town been having?"

Her frown softened a little at his genuine question, (y/n) spoke softly, ".. red-horned bandits"

Red horned bandits were a long-lasting group of rebels that stormed multiple towns and villages for years to steal, and killed, take women, Stan heard about them before, met one of them before, and almost lost a leg to them, they were a tough group of people.

He thought about the money, and he asked "... And.. you say thousands.. is that true?" (y/n) studied him for a second, she knew it wasn't true, that she'd lied before, and how she would continue to lie without knowing another choice, she nodded her head ".. it is," pausing while she watched him consider the opportunity.

All he had to do was get rid of those red-horned bandits. It sounded easy enough, or as easy as it could sound. Stan bit the inside of his cheek softly before nodding his head towards her ".. well alright" untucking his hand from crossing his arms and extending it towards her, ".. a couple thousand" The way her eyes lit up was so pretty, genuine relief, she lifted her hand before he added quickly "and your horse" and she moved her hand away from the handshake, he couldn't help but smile at her. A toothy, teasing smile. He knew he was pretty.

(y/n) shook her head, ".. just the money"

She was so serious, it made his smile brighten a little, Stan nodded his head, repeating the agreement ".. just the money for saving your town" studying how her lips started to curve into a smile as she trusted his word slowly, then extending her hand back out and shaking on it.

It was a deal.

Now, (y/n) had no idea how she would pay him the money, especially thousands as she promised him, but she thought that maybe he'd forget or find peace within a heartfelt thank you, a gentle smile towards him. Either way, she had no way of paying him that much money, what was in the little bag was what he was getting, nothing else.
