The chosen ones
C H A P T E R F O U R
3rd person POV
Silence flooded the room as the clock struck midnight. Making sure everyone was asleep, Dallas crept out of his bed. He winced, as a lego brick pierced into the sole of his foot. One of his sisters toys. Wondering why it was in his room, He shook off the pain. Silently, he made his way to his window, avoiding any more objects. His eyes had adjusted to the dark by now, and he pulled down his window. He climbed out, the tree branch rustling with its newly added weight.
Trying to remain as quiet as possible, he made his way down the tree after closing the window behind him. He plopped down onto the floor, pulling his hood over his head, which was already covered with a beanie. He never took that beanie off, and for a good reason. He was wearing all black, to blend in. Taking in a deep breath, he jogged to his destination.
A dark alley.
A figure was already there waiting for him.
"Ready?" Asked the figure. Dallas walked deeper in, as the figure came into focus. Of course, he already knew who it was.
Liam.
Dallas nodded as Liam pressed the hidden button down in the alley. A part of the wall slid open, revealing what looked to be a laboratory of some sort.
It was huge.
There were computers everywhere, buttons, gizmos, and tons of other gadgets. Scientists were all over the place as well, analyzing data.
"Grizzle! Saldial! You're finally here! Just in time too." A voice uttered. It was Adam Roo, the head of the Wild Souls corporation in Austin, Texas.
"Why the sudden notification?" Dallas asked, motioning to a strange device, now in his hand.
"Yeah, you couldn't wait till morning? It's a school night!" Liam complained, rubbing his eyes.
Mr. Roo chuckled. "Well, I just thought that you would want to know who else would be on your team, but if you don't want to..."
The boys eyes widened. "Seriously?!?" Liam exclaimed. "We're gonna get more people?"
"FINALY! It's about time!" Dallas called out, the boys' hands connecting into a high five.
Laughing, Adam escorted the boys into a different room. He closed the door, and motioned towards a large computer screen occupying the center. On the screen there was a map of the city, with wave-like rings emitting from each location.
"These are the aura levels in each home." Adam explained. "The thicker and faster the rings, the higher the aura level is being emitted. The four highest auras will make up the rest of your team."
"Cool" Liam responded.
~Five Minutes Later~
Finally, the auras started to pick up. In one location, a blue ring emitted a pretty strong aura, it's rings getting thicker by the minute. After awhile, a solid blue dot formed on the location.
"Is that...?" Dallas started.
"Member one." Adam nodded, pulling out a file. "The kid's fifteen, names Will Peregrine. Goes to your school." He said. "That shade of blue in particular represents Ekon, spirit of the peregrine Falcon."
Each person on earth has an aura, represented by a certain color. Once that person dies, the color and aura is passed on to a newly born child. Along with an aura, is a spirit animal. Most people can't come in direct contact with theirs, but Wild Souls, they're different. Each chosen kid was born to protect their city from potential danger, and can communicate with their respective spirit. Not only that, they can shift. Turn into their animal, if they reach their true potential. Another factor, each kid was male. It's always been that way since the beginning of humanity.
Scientists have gradually figured out a way to track down chosen kids, and the Wild Souls secret agency was born.
Smiling, Dallas looked over at Liam, who was staring at the screen. Always been a nerd, he thought.
"Look, over here!" Liam exclaimed, pointing at another set of growing rings. These were amber colored.
"Hmm, it has potential." Answered Adam.
"What about this set of purple rings?" Dallas added.
The other two turned their heads towards where Dallas was motioning, gawking at the size of the dot. It was HUGE.
"Wow I've... I've never seen that shade of purple before!" Adam answered, shocked. It had been years since the research team had discovered any new spirits, they had just assumed that they had identified most, if not all.
"Seriously?!?" Liam gaped. "That's crazy!"
Adam nodded, as the dot finally settled into place, and stopped expanding. Normally, the biggest dot was the leader of the team.
"Guess, you're being replaced, Dallas," Liam smirked.
Rolling his eyes, Dallas fixed his gaze on the amber spot, which had enlarged and stopped. It was average size for a member. "Ohh, that's Fayola! Spirit of the peacock." Adam explained. "Haven't seen her in awhile. The kid is named Drew Koceap, fifteen year old. Goes to a private school." Mr. Roo pointed in the schools direction.
"Now let's find out who the lucky man is," He continued, gesturing towards the purple area. When he couldn't find a file in the jumbled drawer, he turned to a different computer, entered the address of the home, and waited for the results.
Bored of waiting, the boys turned back to the big screen.
"Hey look. The final dot, It's silver." Dallas announced, turning around to face a very pale Adam.
"Mr.Roo? You okay?" He asked worried.
"What's wron- oh." Liam realized turning away from the data at last.
"I-it's a girl. There hasn't ever been a girl. The leader, your leader. She's a girl."
The boys looked at each other.
"Incredible!" Liam said, grinning.
Dallas shrugged. "I don't see the big deal. Now, who's the girl?"
Adam moved away from the screen, and now it was the boys who were pale.
"Abi!?!"
~The Next Morning~
"Owww." Abi groaned.
Sage, her cat, was nibbling on her toes.
"Saaaage!" She complained, kicking he legs free. It was the same routine every morning. She snoozes her alarm precisely three times, and on the third ring, Sage comes into action.
Yawning, she rubbed her eyes, picking up her phone.
6:30 am, it read. Getting out of bed, she dragged herself into her bathroom, getting ready for her second day of high school.
After about forty-five minutes, she comes out, wearing shorts and a vintage shirt. She had her slightly damp hair in a half up bun, fresh from her shower. She completed her look with her amethyst necklace, A few bracelets, and her usual watch and hair tie. Pulling on a pair of combat boots, she headed down stairs.
After snarfing down some eggs, she fed Sage, double checked all of her stuff and headed out to school.
Abi's POV
A few steps away from my doorstep, I found Sunshine.
"Oh, Hey Chris!" I said, hugging him. He had on a red baseball hat, a plain red shirt, and black shorts. Quite a contrast from his blonde hair.
"Hey." He answered sheepishly, slinging his arm around me.
We started walking towards Dallas's house, still half asleep.
When we got there, I knocked on his door, and was greeted by his seven year old sister Havana.
"Abi!" She gushed, her eyes filling with glee. "Hey, Havana!" I greeted, while we did our secret handshake.
"Morning Vanna, Abi. Sup, Chris." Dallas greeted, emerging from the depths of his house.
He had on his forest green shirt, his usual gray/black beanie, and some black adidas shorts. He was going to die with a beanie on in this heat.
He picked up Havana and tickled her, smiling. Her laughter filled the area, as she begged him to stop. Dallas loved Havana more than anything, and they were adorable when they were together. Sibling goals, am I right?
I sighed, thinking about Aaron. Everyone thought he was dead, but I knew he wasn't. I could feel it. I really didn't want to leave Virginia before finding him, but everyone else was convinced that he was dead. He disappeared into a forest, and no evidence was found after.
Twins share a heart. We're one soul, in two bodies. We have a special connection that normal siblings just don't have. I could sense he was still out there. Of course I worried for him, but he was strong. He is strong, he has to be.
After finally putting down his sister, Dallas grabbed his backpack and shoved his keys down his pocket.
We started our way to school, just talking. Dallas did seem nervous though, but I don't ask questions. He was the most mysterious person I knew, and he probably didn't plan on changing that anytime soon.
"It's so hotttt." Chris complained.
"Get used to it VA boy" I answered laughing. It was really hot though, I was sweating already and we'd been walking for about seven minutes.
Dallas chuckled, staring off into the distance. I wondered what he was thinking about. My eyes trailed down to his big hands, which were fiddling with his backpack strap.
"Hey, Dallas you good? You seem nervous." I asked.
Dallas's POV
Was I seriously that easy to read? I need to make up an excuse, fast.
"Uhh, yeah. Heats getting to me." I answered.
"Hm, okay..." she answered, raising an eyebrow.
"Seriously, how do you guys walk to school everyday without being cooked alive!?" Chris commented, exasperated by the heat.
Abi and I shared a chuckle, as we crossed the street in the school's direction.
"Let's go see Liam, he's waiting in the cafeteria." I said as we entered the school. The sudden rush or cool air washed over me, making me realize just how damp from sweat I was. I was pretty used to the Texas heat by now, I barely sweat, though this was supposed to be the hottest year on record. And my beanie wasn't making it any easier. I had an urge to tug it off and toss it to the ground, but I had to keep it on. Couldn't risk taking it off.
"Okay." Abi responded, running a hand through her long, now damp brown hair. She closed her eyes for a moment, enjoying the luxury of air conditioning. She fluttered her lavender eyes open. The same lavender dot that was on the map last night.
They say the eye is a gateway to the soul. Its kinda true. My eyes were green, the same color as my aura. I held the spirit of Chike, The grizzly bear. To normal people, it's a mystery why eye colors aren't passed down like other traits. It's because your aura determines it, as well as the spirit that chooses you.
I gulped down a nervous breath, prayer that we could walk faster to Liam. He was a lot calmer than I am, and we were going to tell them tomorrow night. The new members.
Tell them that they had no choice but to fight for this city.
Help keep the balance of good and evil steady.
And teach them how to communicate with the spirits, and unlock our true potential together.
Y'know, the usual.
Finally, I could faintly make out Liam in the distance.
"Yo!" I called out, jogging towards him, being followed by a very confused Abi and Chris.
Sometimes, it upsets me how close those two are. Can't explain it.
Liam shot me a nervous smile, before waving at the two running behind me. I slapped his hand. While Chris and Abi waved back.
"Hey, guys!" He said. "So, you're Chris Howlman? Nice to meet you."
Blonde boy arched his eyebrow "Uh, yeah. How do you know my name?"
Crap, stay cool dude, I thought.
"Oh, um, Dallas mentioned you over text last night."
Well, guess that works. Little did he know that he was the silver dot. Silver aura, dominated by Eshe, spirit of the Wolf.
"Really? Well, it's nice meeting you too. Liam?" Chris asked, extending his hand towards Liam.
He nodded shaking it.
Suddenly, we were interrupted by the sound of the bell. It's funny, how it controls us in a way.
"Ugh, I hate that sound. Well, see you later you two." Abi complained, motioning towards us as she headed to the music hall with Liam.
He better not give anything away until we have all the members in one place together.
I silently waved to Chris as he made his way to the opposite side of the building, while I headed right. My first class today was Spanish, which was a breeze since I'm Half Spanish and half Mexican. I grew up learning Spanish. Heck, I live it.
Let's do this.
~After School~
Liam's POV
Cautiously, I made my way to the front of the school, which was where I assumed We would meet up everyday. Dallas, Abi Chris and I, I mean.
I was ten minutes late because I had to convince Will Peregrine to meet up at the park at 10:00 pm tomorrow. He was in the school gym, playing basketball. He was pretty ripped, and really good at the sport as well.
Dallas had agreed to DM Drew on instagram, who was actually insanely popular. Dallas said he was a model, Which surprised me. I mean the kids fifteen! No hate though.
From the short time I talked to him, I could already tell that Will Was a bit of a bad boy. A player. Yeah, one of those kids. I on the other hand, was the common, overprotected nerd.
Splendid combination.
He was suspicious of course, but he agreed after I mentioned that Dallas would be there. It's weird, how Dallas tries to hide himself from the world, but practically everyone knows him. Everyone respect him, fears him almost. Seems like Will looked up to him in a way.
"Hey guys" I waved, as three annoyed faces turned to meet mine.
Oh dear.
Lord, spare me.
"Liam! Your sweet and awesome and all, but WHY ARE YOU SO DAMN LATE!" Abi yelled. "ITS LIKE, A HUNDRED DEGREES OUT HERE!"
"You could've texted me and waited inside" I pointed out, earning a glare from Abi.
I gulped, and backed off. "Okay okay, sorry! A teacher needed to talk to me." I felt bad lying, Especially to Abi.
"Well, lets go." Chris sighed. His golden hair was glued to his forehead, and the back of his shirt was dampened with sweat.
"Let's go." Dallas agreed, not questIroning me.
"I'm gonna be late!" Abi groaned, running a hand through her hair in frustration. She does that a lot.
"Gonna be late for what? I asked, curious."
"Well." She started, picking up her pace. "Due to my lack of fashion sense, Alicia is forcing me to got to a modeling place with her. She's making be become a part time model with her." She explained. "I need to change before I get there, to make a good impression." She motioned towards her simple outfit. "Were meeting at my place to get ready. Interview is in an hour."
"You look fine to me" Dallas shrugged.
"Tell that to Zora and Alicia" she muttered. "They always tell me I waste my dashing looks." She added, flipping her hair.
Laughing, we split up. Dallas and I in one direction, Chris and Abi in the other. We walked away, while Abi practically ran to her house, dragging Chris with her.
Tomorrow is sure going to be interesting.
A/N
Hey guys! Thanks for reading :)
I hope you liked this Chapter!
So, if anyone is confused with the whole spirit animal concept, I'll explain it. If you get it, just ignore the next bit (If anyone even reads these 🤔)
So basically, every human on earth has a spirit animal in them. It's this animals duty to guid a person through life with signs, help them be as successful as possible and be their best self.
Each person also has an aura, which is represented by a certain color. A spirit animal and aura color go together. Will Peregrine for example, has a baby blue aura and is guided by the peregrine falcon. When he dies, his spirit animal and aura color stay together, and go to the next human the spirit chooses to guide. This process repeats, for each being on earth.
Normal people can only be guided by intuition and slight signs the spirits may provide, but special kids who get chosen To protect the city they live in, they have the mark of the wild on their upper bicep. It like a tattoo, permanent. It looks like a tan cat scratch, but thicker. These chosen people can talk to and even transform into their spirit animals once they master how to do it. Their duty is to protect their city and maintain the balance of good an evil.
There is a chosen group of six kids per city, all boys. (Until now)
So yeah, hope that made sense.
Sorry for how long of an explanation it was 😅
