Abrupt Encounter
C H A P T E R O N E
It was a cold, dark night. Three teenage boys and a teenage girl were fast asleep in their beds.
Little did they know what was to come.
Suddenly, a flash emitted from each room. An amber glow from one boy's, a sky blue from another, and a silver glow from the last boy. But the girl, her glow was different. It was stronger, brighter, more powerful than the rest. Like a raging purple fire, it flooded the room, not sparing an inch of it. A great roar burst through it, only loud enough for the other spirits to hear.
Each of the teen's shoulder bore the mark of the wild.
It's only a matter of time.
~THE NEXT DAY~
Abi's POV
"So, what instrument do you play?"
"Hmm..?" I turned around to find a sweet, innocent face looking back at me. He looked a bit nerdy due to his glasses, but damn, he was adorkable.
"I asked what instrument you play." he kindly repeated.
"Oh, I play the viola." I said, smiling.
It was the first day of my first year of high school, and I was two classes away from lunch. School was going pretty well. I wore a navy blue champion shirt, tucked into some skinny black ripped jeans. I also had on some plain white sneakers and a watch, as well as a simple Amethyst necklace. I left my hair down, but had a hair tie on my wrist. I never go anywhere without one. My sister, Zora, lectured me about how first day outfits should be more grand, and of course, I ignored her. According to her, fashion was the one thing I wasn't good at.
"Nice! We finally have a decent amount of violists." he answered, smiling back. "I'm Liam Saldial, by the way, and I play the cello." He extended his hand to me and I shook it. "Abigail Syger, but you can call me Abi, and yeah, I'm excited. This is the biggest orchestra I've ever been in." I replied.
"Okay guys, settle down!"
I turned around and saw a middle-aged woman looking upon us. The classroom was immediately drained of all noise and silence enveloped the area.
"Wow, such obedient students this year! I'm your orchestra teacher, Dr. T." We remained silent and she continued. "...Okay everyone line up at the back of the classroom. I'll call you up randomly. Then, say your name, instrument, and sit down where I tell you to. Any questions?"
Everyone shook their heads except for a girl with long, golden locks of hair. "When will chairs be decided?" She asked a bit too nicely . Her voice annoyed me. It was sweet, but not the kind of sweet that's warm, pure and melts in your mouth delightfully. This kind of sweet was artificial and sticky, in a way. She turned back and smiled at the class. "Looks like we got a suck-up this year." Liam whispered to me. I smirked and responded, "Yeah, she doesn't waste any time getting started."
"Actually, the chairs were already decided from the auditions each of you sent in." She said interrupting our conversation. "Oh, okay! Thank you, Dr. T!" She grinned, earning herself an eye roll from almost every student in the room.
Dr. T nodded. "Of course." Then she turned down to a piece of laminated paper in her hands, which I assumed was an attendance sheet.
"Okay, first up is Arav Deep"
A brown boy walked up to the front and waved sheepishly. "Hey, I'm Arav and I play double bass." he stated. We nodded a quick hello and he got into the seat the teacher pointed at. "Second chair, double bass, he must be pretty good." Liam whispered. I nodded and turned back to Dr. T.
This went on until she got to every student. Liam was third chair cello, Goldilocks, as I called her, was second chair violin, and I was principle violist. I smiled the biggest smile inside. I was finally first chair!
We got to know the rules and each other some more, and then class was dismissed.
Liam waved to me. "See you around?" I nodded and waved back.
I walked out of class and saw my best friend Dallas, who was a sophomore, looking at what I assumed was a schedule. "Brown bear, hey!" I exclaimed, approaching him from behind in an attempt to scare him. Of course, it didn't work.
He turned to face me, giving me a small grin.
"Hey, Abi. How was orchestra?"
"Guess who's first chair viola?!" I said trying to keep the excitement in. I failed miserably. Dallas and I were both music lovers, though he played guitar and sang while I played piano and viola. We bonded through music, and we taught each other our different skills.
His eyes widened, as well as his smile. "Oh my god, seriously? And on your first year too?!"
I grinned, but before I could respond, someone else did.
"Heck, yeah!"
Dallas and I both turned around and saw Liam facing us. "Liam?" We said simultaneously.
We turned around to each other again. "You know him?"
Liam cut through our questions. "You always talk at the same time like this?" He smiled. "Dallas and I met last year, and Abi and I met during orchestra," He explained.
"Ah, ok." We said in unison again.
"Wow, y'all do that a lot." Liam pointed out.
We chuckled, looked at each other, and bursted out in laughter.
Well, I did. Dallas just lightly laughed, like his introverted self.
After I calmed down, I continued the conversation. "So it's your second year?"
"Mhm. Your first?"
"Yup."
Riiiiiiiiiing
We looked up as the school bell rang.
"Crap, gotta go, bye!"
I didn't wait to see who said it, I just sped through the halls.
Into a boy.
I bumped into him, and rubbed my head where it hit his.
"Owww, sorry about that!" I apologized, and then I realized who it was.
No freaking way.
