Madison frowned and crossed her arms over her chest as she spoke with Elijah. She had tried to convince him to let her go visit the witches with him, but he had refused, claiming Klaus would have his head of anything happened to her.
"Seriously?" She groaned. "They're not gonna hurt me, I'm the Supreme. I don't know how many times I'm gonna have to tell you guys this."
"The answer is no, and that's final," Elijah gave her a stern look.
Madison raised her hands in mock surrounded before sighing and leaving the room with a pout.
-
The Supreme hummed quietly to herself as she walked through the compound, boredly waiting for Elijah to return with news of Klaus and Rebekah.
"Madison!" His familiar voice called out from the study.
"Ugh, finally took you long enough – " Madison cut herself off when her hazel eyes landed on his shirtless chest, which was now covered in tattoos. "I have no idea what is happening right now, but I'm not... mad."
"I need you to make a list of these names," Elijah instructed as Hayley joined the pair.
Madison nodded, beginning to look at the names that had been tattooed across his body while they waited for Marcel to return with a pen and paper.
"Sabine?" She read aloud.
"Elijah, what is this?" The werewolf questioned.
"I believe they represent the names of the women Celeste inhabited for the past two centuries."
"It's called a Devinette," Madison explained as Marcel handed the pen and paper to her. "It's old school. Kind of a riddle. Witches use them to teach their kids. Solve it, and it disappears."
"Why? What's the point?"
"Celeste forced me to make a choice between yourself and Madison, and my siblings, and now she means to mock that choice, taunting me with a childish game," Elijah frowned, his concern for his siblings growing as each moment passed. "The longer the game, the more they suffer. To find Klaus and Rebekah, we need to solve this riddle. The solution lies somewhere in these names."
"The name next to Sabine, Annie La Fleur, she's the witch that was shunned from her coven just over a year ago, remember?" Marcel glanced at Madison. "Never knew why, but I can find out."
"Oh, I remember her," Madison recalled. "She was a nice girl. We died in the same area."
-
Madison had explained what had happened Annie La Fleur to Hayley, with Elijah on speakerphone as he walked down a busy street.
"Wait, she killed herself?" Hayley questioned, fixing her position on the couch so that she was more comfortable.
"Yeah, she drowned herself in the Mississippi," Madison nodded, tucking some of her hair behind her ear.
"Celeste was clearly tired of the body and ready to take Sabine's," Elijah chimed in.
"How do you know that?"
"Because she leaped to her death from the very location Celeste and I had our first kiss."
"It's kind of poetic, I guess," the Supreme shrugged, "in a creepy vendetta sorta way."
"All these names, these lives, stolen that Celeste might take her revenge. I suppose we have no choice but to see where they take us," the Original sighed through the receiver. "Madison, I have to go. I'll call you back."
"Elijah, wait!" Hayley called out.
"What is it?"
"Ask Marcel if he knows anything about a name on that list – Brynne Deveraux. Sophie said that it was her family's bloodline that put the curse on the Crescent wolves, but Celeste said that she was the only one that could break it. If Brynne Deveraux was actually Celeste when she cast the spell, then maybe Celeste can still break it."
"I'll see what he knows," he nodded even though they couldn't see him.
"Elijah, I'm really sorry that you're going through this," Madison added quickly. "If I had known that Celeste made you choose who to help – "
"You were going to die in that fire, Madison along with my brother's child and Hayley. There was no choice," Elijah stated and hung up, not letting her say anything more.
"You know," the Supreme turned to her sister. "Sometimes I think that everyone would've been a lot better off if I had just stayed dead."
-
Madison typed away quickly on her laptop, Hayley hovering over her shoulder as she did when Elijah entered, causing Hayley to move away a little.
"Hey, look, we found – " Madison was cut off by Elijah gesturing that he had news.
"You were right about the Deveraux witch," he nodded, but before he could continue Marcel joined them.
"Find anything about Clara, the mystery witch?" The vampire questioned with a raised eyebrow.
"Not much. She was a nurse at the Fleur-de-Lis Sanitarium. Recognise her?" The Supreme watched as Marcel froze and began to visibly panic when she clicked on a picture and pointed to a young girl so that Elijah and Marcel could see what she looked like. "Top row, second from the right."
"No, I don't. Marcel?" The Original turned to his brother's protege, instantly noticing how alarmed the younger vampire was. "Marcel? Do I need to remind you that Niklaus and Rebekah are somewhere suffering horribly?"
"If you know something, talk," Madison glared.
"The Sanitarium," he sighed. "That's where you'll find them."
"Are you sure? How do you know?" Hayley interrogated.
"I just know."
"How do you know?" Madison pressed, her eyebrows knitting together in confusion.
"If I'm right, you need to know exactly what we're walking into. We did something, Rebekah and I. I think the witches are trying to use it against her. It was, uh, something that you're not gonna like."
Marcel then explained to the trio how he had Rebekah had betrayed Klaus and Elijah in 1919 by summoning Mikael to New Orleans. This new information had infuriated Elijah, and stunned both Hayley and Madison.
"Holy shit," Madison covered her mouth with her hand in shock. "Klaus is gonna kill you both. Wow. I did not see that one coming."
"For the better part of a century, I have wondered how Father found us, what foolish mistake that we had made to destroy our time in the one place that we could finally call home," Elijah was fuming. "Did you know, I even blamed myself for a time, Marcellus?"
"Elijah – " Hayley tried to interrupt him and calm him down, only to be ignored.
"Niklaus treated you like a son."
"Rebekah. I loved her. I still love her. All we ever wanted was to be together, but as long as Klaus was around, that was never gonna happen," Marcel tried to defend himself and Madison felt a little hurt. She began to wonder if he had still been in love with Rebekah when she was with him. "But hey, I guess you wouldn't know anything about that, huh?"
"When Klaus learns the truth, there will be no end to his rage. I will not let my sister suffer that wrath."
"Then we need to get to them before he learns the truth," Madison placed a hand in her hip.
"You're not coming," Elijah and Marcel spoke in unison.
"Obviously," she rolled her eyes. "Angry Klaus is, like, my least favourite Klaus. Now, go!"
-
Madison watched as Celeste, in Sabine's body, made her way down the street towards the French Quarter. The Supreme gripped the shovel tightly in her hands as she quickened her pace.
She swung, the shovel colliding with the older witch's head causing her to fall to the ground and groan in pain.
"Good evening, slut," Madison smirked. "You and I are gonna have a little chat."
