{Ch.23~ School's Out Foreva}
For the season of Graduation and because I'm a jerk who didn't update.
"Ain't no party like a graduation party, cause the graduation party don't stop." I rolled my eyes at the woman in front of me, I smiled and leaned onto Eddie as I fixed my heel.
"Mom, stop singing and take more pictures, we look great!" I said as I pulled Richie and Eddie closer to me.
Look who graduated, yup, us. We made t through high school. Today, we shall own our kingdom. My family, meaning the Losers and their parents, were all here. Even Mrs. Kaspbrak who sat inside her car a bit down the street.
They all took pictures and screamed that their babies weren't babies anymore. Bev's dad was here in a looser suit watching the girl he's watched grow up, well, grow up. The Tozier's comedic genius was supplied by Wentworth while Maggie straighten Richie's cap. Mr. Uris was nodding at Stanley very proudly as we were standing in front of the cameras in front of Bill's house. My mom sang and danced as she filmed and took pictures. Ben's mother licked her thumb and wiped away a bit of schmutz from his cheek. Mike stood as he let my mom fix his gown. Yeah, he went to our school for a bit, graduated with us too. And then there was Bill, he was a smiling goofus who couldn't help but twirl his little brother around and let his try on his cap.
Then there was me, yeah my mom was ere and I'm grateful, but my dad wasn't. A divorce isn't always a traumatic event, it was the fact that he let me believe that he'd be here to see me walk down the aisle. Graduation aisle and wedding aisle.
"Group picture, group picture. Gather around kids." My mom called as we all assumed position. We took a few off guard and some where we'd managed to pay attention long enough.
"Hey, everybody say 'Losers'!" I said as I leaned my head onto Richie's arm. He wrapped his arm around my shoulder.
"Losers!" We shouted, yeah...we are the Losers.
The day went on and soon enough my chest was beating fast and my mind fuzzed. I chose where I was gonna go after graduation, I knew where I would spend the rest of my young adult life. I just wish Richie wouldn't be too upset with me. I love him I do, I really do.
"Arrietty Denise Mulligan." I sad as I watched Beverly sit down with her diploma in hand, she was the loser before. We cheered loud when we saw our Bill 'William' Denbrough, Mike 'Michael' Hanlon, Ben 'Benjamin' Hanscom, Edward 'Eddie' Kaspbrak, and Beverly 'Bev' Marsh. Now it was my turn, Arrietty 'Arri' Mulligan.
"Miss Mulligan has been one of our finer student to attend Derry High School. She's excelled academically and is excellently a pleasure to have in our school. Now, Miss Mulligan has a tough decision to make between several colleges. Arrietty?" My principle stepped aside so he could allow me to speak. I looked at all of my losers and Richie who seemed to have his knees buckled. Please don't pass out.
"As most of you know I have a boyfriend, Richard, who I believe would want me to do whatever is best for me. He's the kind of person to let the love of his life go— that being me— so that she could live out her dream even if I have to go to some fancy school. We have these nights where we dream about life after college, we never anticipated for this major step. This is kind of a make or break kind of deal." My heart was beating out of my chest, my hands were clammy and I could see Richie bite his lip in anticipation.
"Stanford in California. The place where we've always wanted to spend the rest of our lives, we're gonna live in our dream house and I'll wait if you want me to." He smiled, the thought that I wouldn't forget about him made his ear glow red. I pushed up my glasses, he pushed up his and I smiled at him.
He grasped his chest and huffed as if I was saying I was going out of the country, which was an option. You see, Richie got accepted into a Stanford for a film making program. Yeah, he found out he had a knack for film after putting together all of these little videos from the camera I got him. He said he'd take a semester off and they'd hold his position first, he wanted to work for awhile, he wanted to save up for me. He got scared after I showed him all of the acceptance letter I had gotten. He got a few to but he was really set on Cali.
That how we graduated, well, after me was Richard 'Richie' Tozier and Stanley 'Stan' Uris. We were all still sitting in alphabetical order, I spoke with Sophia Murphy, a girl in my class, before Bev tapped my shoulder.
"Lover boy has his eyes on you." She whispered in my ear before pointing a little ways behind me. I turned around and watched as Richie's grin became more spacious. He waved at me shyly and blushed, looking at me dreamily.
I laughed, leaning up with my chuckles then turned to him again. I waved back and blew him a little kiss. He caught it and pressed it to his chest as if he were in a movie. Then, "The graduating class of 1988!" The graduation song played and parents came to give their children bone-crushing hugs.
I stayed sitting awhile, taking it all in. I'm an adult, I'm gonna have to leave my mom and forge my dad existed. I'm gonna have to...Well, adult.
"We're kids, we're graduating, be happy!" Richie said as he sat next to me. I smiled at him as my head pounded and my heart stopped. Maybe it was just moving so fast I was unaware of it.
"I would, but I have to ask you something and I don't want to scare you." I said as his face changed into one of 'You're overreacting'.
He started to stand up like he wanted to run away, "just ask me, Nothing could kill my mood right now- unless you're breaking up with me— baby, please d-" I stopped him with my words.
"Marry me?" He sat down as if he were having a heart attack, I couldn't even breathe with his anxious I was.
He didn't do anything for awhile but everyone around us were so loud I wasn't surprised. He chuckled once then went back to a straight face. I decided to speak.
"I don't have a ring for you yet, I mean, I could get one once we get settled and I get a little more money but-"
"Arri, are you serious, like you're hot shitting me, you really want to marry me?" I shrugged and nodded, "holy shit!"
He tackled me to the floor and on a few peoples' feet before helping me up and hoisting me up so my feet left the ground, "I'm getting married!"
