Secret Meetings

That same day I decided, instead of going home right away I would meet with Henry somewhere we are likely not to be seen. I left a hint on his seat so all he needs to do is track my scent to the spot. I'm sure he wouldn't mind us meeting like this now that our first meeting has become the hottest story of school.

A few moments after school ended he found me and we sat on this fallen log overlooking a creek. His face hints at a smile and he looks at me like now I can tell him whether or not he can stay or go. As if. Then he looks at the scenery and asks the big question on his mind.

"So why this place? Couldn't you have picked a less romantic place to meet?"

I gave him a look. For reasons he didn't need to know, I wanted to bring him here because this was a secluded space so we could talk in peace.

"You know why I brought you here. I need to know you will keep the wolf kept away. That and we can't have everyone thinking we're going out." He nodded his approval and he muttered keep the wolf in, got it. I don't even know why I decided to ask him this but by the time I had said it was too late. "Where did you come from? How did you get here?"

This time he gave me a look but he did answer me. "Well, you see I am not a typical wolfblood." Then he paused, possibly trying to figure out the right words to say. I patiently awaited his response, it's been something that since he mentioned it has been nagging me to no end.

"My mom works as an engineer. We used to live in Minnesota, but we moved to Denver because she was offered a better job here. My dad stayed with us until I was five. Whatever it was about me, or my mom, or both of us he decided to leave us. If I had to guess he became a wild one. Mom wasn't the same after he left but I was told to never to ask about it. For me I would try and track him down but he was like a spirit, here one day and disappearing the next, never to be found. Please, we're trying to build our life back up, so all the time we can stay here it would help. I'm not asking you to accept me into your pack but at the very least we will swear our loyalty to your parents."

That hit me hard and I didn't expect him to open up to me like that. If only my parents knew that his life was full of turmoil and raw emotion that it would make it easier for him to stay. At least for a little while. With that we sat in silence until he got up to what I assumed was to go home. Not long after he left I decided if I stuck around any longer my parents would track me down. That night I was thinking of my argument with my parents, because I have chosen to side with Henry and his mom.
