School Chaos

The next day was like any other family morning. Both my parents work at the local university, my mom teaching physics and my dad teaching biology. They were up and out of their den making me pancakes and bacon before I had to leave. This morning though I was having some pain. Mostly in my head but some in my eyes and ears too. Just like always my parents picked up on my dilemma.

"Morning Sadey." My dad said cheerfully. Then he saw me clutching my head and put his arm around my shoulders. "Uh, Liv. There seems to be something wrong with Sadey." With that she immediately flipped around to give me a quick once over, then putting the skillet down. She sat down across from me for closer examination.

"Looks to me like your heads hurting a little. Are your eyes and that hurting too?" Once I nod my parents looked at each other with a grim expression. "Sadey, this is a sign that your first transformation is coming up. You will need to lie low for a while, just in case something happens." I nod again. My mom, satisfied with the talk, goes back to making bacon. My dad pats me on the shoulder and walks to the sink to rinse his dish.

I get my bag and head out to the garage for my bike. My school isn't far away and I think it would look abnormal of me to simply walk to school without Mary or James with me. Mary and James have been my friends since we were in preschool, always trying new things and daring each other at simply absurd things. At the end of the day we all are basically one and the same person. We even share the same birthday so we all shared our fifteen year old birthdays.

I get to school and as I'm racking up my bike Mary jumps me from behind. For a moment I stumble until James catches me from behind. After a moment he pushes me back up and we all double over laughing. Almost everyday someone pranks them, not something that would humiliate the person, but something that they could get a good laugh about. It started back in third grade and we simply liked it and have done it since.

After our laugh we walk to class and sit down at the two tables closest to the door. Mary and I usually sit together and James usually sits behind us and one of his lacrosse teammates comes and talks strategies with him. Once we all get situated it's just a waiting game until Mrs. Sickles comes in and begins class. Her lessons are more or less fairy tales you could tell to anyone and they would fall asleep.

A couple of hours later and it's lunchtime, our favorite time of the day. Yet as we settle down to eat my head feels like it's splitting open, I read that if they see me like this that I will get caught. Quickly I think up a way to escape.

"Hey I think I'm going to step out for some air. You guys cool?"

"Sure. Make sure you take your food, otherwise James will eat it all again." Mary smiled and nodded in the direction of James who had basically wolfed down his lunch. I laughed and took a banana with me as I went towards the door. Sometimes the teachers let us outside for PE but if you wanted to leave and come back just prop the door open with a rock. The teachers wouldn't notice if you left if you came back so sometimes Mary, James and I leave school to just have some venting time.

I could not wait until I got home. It was already hard enough with the constant headaches, now anytime I try to focus on something my eyes blur and it becomes indescribable. At least when I'm home mom and dad can help me with medicines and old tricks.
