That night somehow had spread around and everyone felt like they were staring at me. Being with James and Mary helped divert the eyes of children's around us as we walked to class. Mary and I go to the cafeteria while we're waiting on James to go through the breakfast line. Just behind James though was Henry. Suddenly my cheeks flushed and I couldn't hide it from Mary.

Immediately she picked up on my reaction to Henry and began her list of rather long questions. She was always like a radar, and always came with questions for things she couldn't easily explain.

"Are the rumors true? Did you meet with him last night?"

Oh great. How do I put this to her without sounding like I'm hiding something from her? "Yes I did but all he wanted was to...". Okay now what? "Know what kinds of sports teams that we have at school. Apparently he likes football and wanted to know if we had a team." Looking at Mary she was trying to figure out whether or not she thought she was being led astray. Lucky for me James barged in and took the attention away from me.

"What are you girls talking about? Any juicy gossip?"

Oh no! Mary glanced at me and replied to James's question. He looked at me after Mary finished telling him what I told her and he wanted to know more too. I shrugged and looked away but he didn't move his gaze, even eating his food while staring me down.

I sort of caved in. "What do you want? He came to my place for no more than to ask me about sports! Nothing else happened while he was with me! He even left of his own accord! So there he didn't do anything else while he was with me, okay?!" 

By now the whole lunchroom was staring at me and I dashed out to avoid the embarrassment. Mary and James had these looks of you had to have done something with him. All the eyes on me were unbearable and I had to escape. From outside I listened to what other people were saying.

"I can't believe she was with him. He is so cute!"

"There's no way it was just about sports! He has to have something going with her."

Oh and this one was my favorite. "Wonder what else they did while they had their alone time."

They didn't believe me. All they think is that it was just a stall to what I was really doing with him. Guess I'll need to get Henry on my side without drawing any more attention to me.
