Disgruntled Leaders

So I begin the debate between my parents about the new guy. Not the best night I've had but this matter was not just something that affected us, but the whole population of wolfbloods. We gathered in the living room after dinner, ready to argue with each other about the course of action. For hours we went back and forth on the spectrum of solutions and beliefs about what the right thing would be to do.

"He puts us at risk! We need to tell him to get lost!" My dad states.

"His name is Henry, and he seemed well behaved. Maybe we give him a shot at life here. We don't have to let him into our pack, just let me monitor him for a while." I say feebly.

My mother shakes her head. "I go with your father. This guy Henry isn't just a problem for us but for all the wolfbloods around here. It isn't safe for him or us."

By the end of it I overturned mom's thoughts to let me monitor him. To make sure he doesn't transform or flaunt his natural abilities to others. As we left the meeting dad was grumbling to himself, obviously disgruntled to be out ruled by his own wife. At least I got my way and he can prove himself before the gavel decides his fate. I go to rest for the night and hear these pebbles hitting the side of the house. I go into the hallway and find the window. Out in the street is Henry. He was trying to coerce me outside, and unfortunately for me it worked.

I grabbed my green hoodie and quickly throw it over my head so I could look at least like I was up. Slowly I crept down the stairs to the front door and out the door. Once outside I turned to Henry and dashed to him. He looked scared probably thinking that when he talks to me my parents will catch us. I stand by his side and he simply looks at me over his shoulder.

"So what is the ruling? Am I supposed to make myself scarce?"

I sigh before answering. "No. However I am supposed to watch you and make sure you respect the wolfbloods in the area and do anything stupid that would get us caught." After I said that his shoulders dropped, assuming he is safe from harm.

"You know this doesn't mean you're not a part of our pack right?" I asked blatantly.

"I kind of figured, but maybe some day that might change. Some day I will actually have a family to go to." That caught my attention. I turned my head to look up at him. His eyes looked sorrowful and seemingly looking at his memories of life. What felt like minutes later he snapped out of his trance, muttered a thank you, and began a walk home. Wherever that was.

Going back into the house my parents were already up and waiting for me in the living room. Both had that look of what just happened and expecting an answer before I was to leave anywhere. So I told them that he thought he was leaving but he knows I'm going to make sure he is at least safe enough to stay here. They seemed satisfied with that and we went back to bed, meanwhile I'm awaiting my opportunity to assess this new wolfblood as we begin a new whirlwind life.
