4 (Part 1) - Hope

"Don't worry about it, Nicky," I said, grabbing my suitcase from the belt. Gio's fingers immediately wrapped around the handle where I was holding it. My heart jumped when our fingers slightly brushed. He lifted the bag and set it down next to me. I smiled back. He simply nodded in return. "It's okay, I'll just take a cab. I have the address anyway."

"Are you sure?" Nicola asked again. "I mean, my cousin can drive over there. It's pretty close to the airport."

I laughed. "Seriously, it's okay. I'll call a cab right now. I'll give you a call as soon as I get there."

"Alrighty then. See ya!"

After I ended the call, I turned to Gio. "I guess I'll be going now. Thank you for helping me with my bag," I lowered myself down to Tracy's level. "Take care of yourself, Tracy. Don't give your dad here a hard time." I glanced up at Gio. He started coughing.

"He's not my dad." Tracy reminded me.

Gio brushed a thumb across the tip of his nose. "I'm actually her uncle."

Uncle. Good to know. Although, it wasn't enough information if he was single or not. Wait. Why do I even care? I didn't move all the way here just to date guys. Dating wasn't my main priority right now. I needed to focus on getting a job first before anything else. "Oh, I'm sorry. Anyway, it was nice meeting you two. Have a great day. Take care."

"Same here," Gio nodded. "Take care."

"Bye, Vienna." Tracy gave a little wave. She sounded a little sad.

When I turned around, it felt like my heart stopped beating. There was sadness swirling around in my heart. One, it was because I really liked the little girl. And two, I really liked her uncle, too, and I wanted to know more about him. Help, I'm torn. As I walked toward the glass doors, I heard my name being called. I looked over my shoulder and saw Tracy running after me with her uncle trailing along.

"Vienna! My uncle wants you to come with us!" Tracy had a big smile on her face as she grabbed my hand. She started jumping up and down.

My mouth opened up, and I closed it again. Puzzled, I looked up at Gio for an answer. "Come with you?"

"We'll drop you off." He clarified.

"Oh," my eyes widened. "Of course. That would be great. Thank you."

Was this good karma or what? It doesn't matter. I'm not complaining. Thank you, Universe. It felt like my heart was doing a happy dance as I followed Gio and Tracy out of the airport. When we reached the parking lot, he opened the back trunk and placed our bags inside. He didn't seem like a chatty person. He's way too quiet. I've dated a few guys in the past and they weren't like Gio. The guys I've dated before didn't know what boundaries were, so this was refreshing. He opened the passenger door for me before he got in the driver's side.

"Are you staying at a hotel?" He asked as he buckled up. "Do you have the address?"

"Yes," I scrambled for my phone and opened up my phone's notepad. "It's not a hotel, though."

When I showed it to him, his eyes lit up. "Hey, I know this place."

"You do?" I tucked my phone back inside my purse pocket.

"Yeah," he nodded. "My cousin's family owns it."

Holy shit.

I felt my jaw drop. "Your cousin? No way?"

"Yeah." He started backing up from the parking space. That was his last word. We were both quiet again. For a second, I thought we were going to have a full-blown conversation. I guess not. Tracy was in the back sleeping so I wasn't able to talk to her. I stopped myself from asking any more questions. Annoying him wasn't my goal. Although I was curious if he was really related to Nicola since they own the apartment buildings. I have to ask Nicola in person when I see her. He did say that his cousin's family owns it.

There is hope after all.

"It's really nice here," I heard myself say. Whoops, I couldn't help myself. Let's just say it was more of a conversation starter. "Are we... almost there?"

"Yeah," he said, turning at a street with cream colored apartment buildings. "Alright. Here we are." He slowly parked in the visitor parking area. We both got out of his car at the same time. He opened the back of his trunk and took my bags out.

"Before you go, I want to give you a tip," I reached into my purse for some cash. "Just hang on a sec."

He shook his head and slowly backed away from me. "No, you don't have to tip me. I was glad to help out. Seriously, keep your money."

"Thank you for dropping me off, Gio." I smiled and held his gaze for a moment. God, he was cute. My hand found its way to my chest, then I started rubbing it. It's been bothering me since I've landed here in Colorado. I took a deep breath. "For some reason, I have a hard time breathing."

"Altitude sickness," Gio said. "Give it a day or two, it'll pass. Just make sure you get plenty of rest."

"Oh, wow. I didn't know that." I continued to rub my chest.

"You'll get a headache, and you might feel nauseous. Ibuprofen, aspirin, or Tylenol can help. It'll take time for your body to acclimate. You'll have a hard time sleeping as well."

I almost said Thank you, doctor. I'm glad I stopped myself. "Thank you."

"There's an Olympic training center here," he stated. "It's one of the popular training grounds for endurance athletes due to high elevation."

"Again, I didn't know that." I laughed, fascinated at the small information he gave me. And I thought he wasn't chatty.

"Well, it was great meeting you, Vienna." He extended his hand for a shake. Shit. Why does he want to end our conversation so soon? I have a feeling that he's taken. I already know. Damn. Why are the good ones always taken? Because if he was interested in me, he would've already gotten my contact information since we were at the airport.

I stared at his hand for a brief moment, then looked up at his face. I guess this is it. I shook his hand. "It was great meeting you, too, Gio."

He took a step back. "So, I'll see you around?"

I shrugged. "I don't know. Maybe."

He jogged over to his car, but before opening his car door, he turned to me. "Oh yeah, one more thing. Pikes Peak. You'll love it there."

Surprisingly, I wasn't sad about his departure. Maybe because I found out that Nicola is his cousin. Now I know the Universe is really helping me. Let's just hope he's not taken.
