Chapter 4

Both Alex and Craig easily made their way up the tree. Well, as easily as one can with another bumping you playfully. My tail flicked a bit, but settled down pretty quickly.

The two males both settled down on a branch in front of my perch. Craig's back was slightly hunched with Alex peeking over his shoulder. I blinked at them, a thought occuring to me.

'Hey, why are there so many males, but not that many females?' I sent the feeling of curiosity towards them.

Alex's pointy ears perked. 'We're not completely sure, neither are the scientists. They said they found an Alien body with male organs and used it's DNA for the morphing, they have a theory that it's not that compatible with the female gender. So females rarely make it.'

I nodded and felt a shiver go down my spine. I could have died. And I know the same people kidnapped Claire. I hoped she would be as lucky as me. Craig seemed to pick up on my unease.

'What's wrong?'  He asked worriedly.  His ears flicked back for a second, showing his concern.

I let out a breath before settling my head down onto my white paws. My tail curled around my side and the fluffy end reached my opposite shoulder.

'On the day that I was kidnapped, my sister was taken as well. I'm guessing they want as many of us as possible, so we should've been metamorphed at the same time...' I trailed of, my mind voice becoming quiet.

Both of the males in front of me tails dropped and their ears settled back onto their skull.

I was close to tears, but jumped when I felt something brush against my head. My head jerked up and my snout hit the underside of Craig's head. I froze as he lightly nuzzled my forehead in a silent apology.

Craig suddenly yelped and slipped off the tree branch, giving me a fright. I sprung to my feet, my tail curled and raised in surprise. I looked back at Alex to see him snickering. Ah I see. Alex pushed him.

I giggled and watched as Craig straightened himself and gracefully land on his feet. Alex grinned before jumping down and tackling Craig. Kullen saw and bounded his way over to the play fight.

I just chuckled and settled back down whilst sending the feeling of gratitude to Craig. The wolf-falcon hybrid turned to grin at me before running of with the other two.

I snarled at the white coat as he slid my cage back into its slot. He scoffed before walking off. Huffing, I turned and ate some of the bones and nuts in my bowl. It turns out that we get our needed nutrition from bones and nuts even though we look like carnivores. We get meat and fruits from time to time, but those are not that needed.

Alex informed me that our bones were hallow like a birds and that we needed calcium to keep them expecially strong, hense the bone diet. It explained why my body felt so light and that I could jump so high. The only downside is, is that wind can carry us away.

I have a suspicion that we might be part cat as well seeing as we are graceful, agile and always land on our fee- paws.

I grabbed a large bone with my paws and layed against the opposite wall of my food bowls. I clamped my fangs over the bone and easily broke off a piece. The sharp pieces melted almost instant one my tough and flowed down my throat. The bones -ironically- tasted like milk.

'Guys.' My ears perked as the strong voice from before slipped into the main mindlink. I looked up from my meal when a white coat pushed a cart down to empty cages. On the cart I could se what looked like...'Eggs...'

There had to be at least a dozen, but when I looked further down the hall I saw hundreds more of them. A stone settled into my stomach. How many people have been taken against their will? I could feel Alex stare at me and the concern flowing out to me from Craig.

My tail dropped and my ears flattend against my head. 'Hey, Alex?' I turned to look at him. 'What are the chances of a male surviving?'

I saw the German droop his tail and sat down. '4%, I think.' He looked at me with his brows furrowed and ears twitched.

I look away from him, feeling worry, anxiety and sadness settling in. My sister could be in one of those eggs. I felt my eyes gloss over. I curled up in to a ball and draped my tail over my snout to cover my eyes.

'Annabelle?'

'I'm going to sleep'

I cut off the mindlink and slipped out of the main. My conscious slipped away to the sound of silence.
