Chapter 3
The scientists who were pushing the metal cart stopped in front of a metal door. I kept a keen eye on him as he typed in a code into a keypad. I only caught two of the six numbers, I'll have to remember them.
The double door slid open and we were wheeled inside. The door closed behind us. The room wasn't to big, but there was enough space to run around. On the door side of the room were six people, all holding clipboards. On the far side was a space with grass, two bowls of water and food and a fake tree.
There weren't any windows.
I glanced at Alex, who was crouched and glaring at the white coats. I felt the fur on my back prick as the scientists opened he top of my chage. A low growl escaped my throat as he reached inside.
Just as I was about to jump out of reach, the man grabbed me. I clawed and bit at his gloved hands, but it was to thick to bite through. A woman came to him and switched on a recorder and opening a file. "Specimen 010234. Female. Kidnapped on September 22. Morphing started on September 30 and completed on November 30th. Hatched using method B3 and heating
C1. Hatching occurred late afternoon April 30th." The male scientist checked me over, before dropping me onto a scale. The woman continued, "No deformalities. Meets standard form. Prefers fight over flight. Part of the wild dog hawk group."
I felt my stomach drop. I've been kidnapped and gone for SEVEN MONTHS! Just then a thought occur during to me. What about Claire?
I quickly shook that thought away. I was in a room filled with scientists. I had to keep my act together.
"Weight is around 5 kilograms. Around 30 centimetres tall." The male finished. He reached I and quickly grabbed me. I let out a bird-like squawk and bit down again. He quickly put me on the ground and I wasted no time in bolting in the other direction.
The man and woman quickly checked over the other Kaydentsirds before releasing them too. There was seven of us on the other side of the room. The scientists were watching us like hawks. No pun intended.
'Sooo,' a voice drawled out. 'I'll introduce myself. My names Kaden. I'm from the red husky hawk group.'
A few other voices chimed in and introduced themselves. 'Howdy ya'll! The names Cullen!'
'I'm Craig! Hi!'
'Zachary, but you can just call me Zack.'
'I'm James! Zacka-boy's brother!'
'I don't remember introducing myself with that name...' Zack whispered and trailed off. I couldn't help but snort.
That's when they all looked at me and I realised... I was the only female here. Alex watched in amusement as I shyed away. I swallowed hard before introducing myself.
'Uh, hi. My names Annebelle.' I spoke softly, before shuffling away. I glanced at the scientists who were scribbling at the speed of light. I quickly turned as anxiety got the better of me and trotted over to the fake tree. I could still feel the stares of the others on my back.
Once I was close, is stood back on my haunches and examined the tree. It was quite big and almost touched the high ceiling. I felt my tail twitch.
I wanted to climb that tree.
With that I rested my front paws on the rough bark. I pressed down, sliding my claws out and kneed the bark. I was still fully aware of all the eyes on me, and tried my best to ignore it.
I blinked and watched as some pieces fell of in fascination. My claws were really sharp. Now feeling more confident, I hunched my back and tensed my back leg muscles. I pushed off of the ground as hard as I could, using my front claws to propel myself even further.
What I didn't know was just how strong my legs were.
I let out a surprise yelp as I threw myself into the air, higher than the fake tree. Trust me when I say that the tree was tall. Around 60 feet.
But holy guacamole that was insane. I quickly and instinctively lowered my tail and curled up my back legs. I stretched out my front legs and clung to the top of the tree. My back legs latched onto the side with my tail curling sideways.
I blinked in surprise. It all happened so fast! I rushed to the top of the flat tree and sat there, panting. I blinked when I saw the scientists gaping. My large ears twitched back, unpleased.
The one that watched me more than the others, switched on a recorder and spoke into it, my keen hearing easily picked it up. "Record of jumping height has been broken. From 45 feet to 60 feet."
I blinked, before turning my attention to the other Kaydentsirds. They were watching me as well, chests puffed out and tails raised. Again, they were impressed.
Craig was the first to snap out of his awe. "That was amazing!" He pushed it into my mind gently, the feeling of awe following. He also added a howl.
I couldn't help but smile and bark back. The rest of them barked happily, before turning to do their own thing. Craig trotted over to the bass of the tree with Alex.
