Chapter 18
How long have I been here? The thought popped up out of nowhere. I sighed deeply through my snout and titled my head back. I flattened my ears and pressed my tongue against the roof of my mouth. With all my senses now blocked I relied heavily on my stomach to read the vibrations in the ground.
It has been so long since I've seen another Kaydenstrid or Feral as the Kymari named us. I know its only been three weeks, but it felt like forever. The loneliness was only now seeping into my bones, weighing down my usually light body.
The sun did nothing to warm the cold, empty feeling that loneliness brought with it and numbed out any other emotions. It was starting to kill me. I opened my eyes to mere slits and blearily stared at the cloudless sky. My instincts were scrathing at the edges of my mind, desprate for some form of companionship.
But the only other living being here was that Kymari, Kaieke.
Something stirred in my chest. It rolled with the mixture of excitement and weariness. Almost similiar to the feeling I got when I played tug-of-war with the alien. A small spike of joy flashed across my body at the thought of the game. I will admit that it was fun. I didn't have anybody to play-fight with, but the Kymari was surprisingly strong. Even so I wouldn't dare to pounce on him.
The loneliness reared its head again and I winced. My tail flicked in small, agitated movement and my fur pricked. I huffed and prodded at my instincts. They quickly latched onto my thoughts and for once, I allowed it to take some control.
I rose to my feet and slowly walked towards the house not to far in the distance. My steps bacame more hesitant the closer I ventured, but the light fear from before didn't rise up. I slowed even more and stopped when I saw Kaieke.
The green alien was sitting on the porch and working on his laptop. He picked up the tablet on the armrest and pestered with it, before he returned to the larger electronic on his lap. My ears flicked and my tail curled in curiousity. For the past few days he's been in my general vicinty for around three hours. It was only now that I realised that his presense did not bother me as much as before.
I observed him for a few seconds longer, before I made my way closer. I went slow, but made sure it didn't look like I was stalking him. I lowered my head and titled it slightly. It was a show of submission and friendly curiosity. I just hoped he would pick up on that.
The Kymari looked up when my silent steps were a few feets away. He tensed slightly in surprised before he relaxed. He curiously blinked at me. I swallowed my nerves as best I could and took two small steps forward. I tilted my head a little more and allowed him to see the top of my shoulders. This way he knew I was not being aggressive.
He studied my body language for a moment, before he slowly closed his laptop and set it on the low table in front of him. He rose out of his seat and made his way to the end of the porch. I tensed, but stayed still. He hesitated for a second, before he stepped onto the health grass. It brought him barely five feet from me.
For a while, we both just stood there staring at each other. The green alien took a deep, steading breath before he slowly brought up his arm. My ears perked to attention and my neck coiled back an inch, but I did not move my paws. He kept his arm outstretched to me and opened his palm, spreading hin four long fingers.
It was a way to show he did not intend to hurt me. I blinked and relaxed my neck at the subtle sign of trust. I rose my eyes and followed up his arm, over his shoulder and locked onto his eyes. Eyes that showed nothing but friendly curiosity and a flicker of warmth.
That was all it took for my insticts to loosen on my thoughts and gave me full control. I broke eye contact and reached out. My wet nose gently bumped against his fingers and I took a deep breath. He smelled mildly like vanilla with a hint of something soft, like baked bread. The lingering smell of earth and nature, calmed my nerves and told me that he was a friend.
I took another deep breath of his calming scent and stepped closer. I heard his breath hitched as I lightly pressed my nose into hs chest. I breathed and sniffed, ingraining his unique presence in my mind and senses. My instincts latched onto it in a gentle grasp. I removed my snout from his warm skin and tilted my head up.
He was standing as still as a frozen rock, keeping his breathing as calm and even as possible, but even so I knew how he really felt. There was excitement swimming in his eyes. I felt my tail wag gently as his feelings transfered over to me.
His arm that was hovering next to my neck retracted and rested in front of me again. I paused and blinked at him. He seemed to mull over a thought, before he gently settled his palm on my head, between my ears. I froze and my tail stiffened. I felt as he hesitantly curled his finger is small scrathing movements -that sent tingles down my spine- before he removed his hand.
He stepped back and turned back to the house. I blinked dumbly after him as the things that just happened processed.
He touched me.
He toutched my head.
The realization of what just happened hit me like a truck driving full speed. Only the truck was filled with happiness and warmth that crashed into me like a tidal. I couldn't help but let out a happy bark and swung my tail from side to side quickly.
Kaieke jumped and whirled to look at me. His eyes blinked rapidly as I trotted over to him and licked his cheek. His jaw fell open as I turned and trotted back to the forest.
I didn't care that he was a Kymari.
I had a friend.
This one is much better.
I like this chapter. It is cute, fluffy and the beginning of a wholesome friendship. Yay!
I hope you enjoyed!
Stay safe lads!
