Ummm.... I think I fixed it XD
here is my revised essay! I completely redid a couple of paragraphs. I'm hoping it's alright now, but if anything sounds weird please tell me what I should do to fix it.... I haven't wrote this long of an essay in a while XD
A morally good character does what they believe will help others even if what they're doing is wrong. Valentine is a perfect example of a good character because many of her actions are done for the good of others even though not all of her choices have positive effects on everyone, but she only wants to help. Valentine tries to show her love mainly towards her two brothers, Ender and Peter. Although Peter has a dark mind, and sickening thoughts she still attempts to help him gain power, even though it may not have supporting outcomes on the rest of the world. She also tries to help Ender regain himself at battle school, though many of her intentions don't work out as there supposed to.
Towards the beginning of the book, when Valentine, Peter, and Ender are playing buggers and astronauts, Peter threatens to kill both Ender and Valentine. Valentine tells him that he won't be elected due to a letter she wrote that is concealed in her secret file. She explains that the letter will be opened on the event of her death, and that it says Peter killed her, and that he will soon be after their brother "Andrew". Valentine black mails Peter to protect Andrew, otherwise known as Ender. Peter may have seemed unaffected by Valentines words but to some this may seem as though Valentine is just as bad as Peter, blackmailing her older brother to save her younger one. It may even seem as though she favors Ender. It is quite possible that she does, but later in the book she makes up for her mistake by helping Peter.
The next event takes place while Ender is at battle school. Ender was suffering from severe depression, and as no longer acting like himself. Valentine was asked by Graff, to send a letter to Ender telling him that he was nothing like their brother Peter. Ender did not take kindly to this letter. He then felt as though Graff and all the teachers at battle school had taken everything that mattered to him. Valentine was only thinking of Ender, she didn't want Graff to send a fake letter to Ender as he had threatened. She felt as though it would hurt him if he received the makeshift letter from Graff rather than her. Valentines intentions sadly backfired. After the whole fact Ender believed she was one of them, trying to turn him into something he wasn't. Valentine didn't intend for it to happen, but there was nothing she could have really done to prevent Enders reaction.
The last major event involving Valentine, was after Ender had destroyed the bugger race, he was stuck on Eros not allowed to return home. Valentine flew to Eros offering Ender to come and join her in one of the new colonies on a deserted bugger planet. Valentine had made it so that Ender could not return to Earth using her fake identity Demosthenes. She did this not to force him to go with her, but to protect him from being Peters pawn. Valentine explained this to Ender hoping that he wouldn't be mad. Ender was quick to forgive her, yet he was unsure if he wanted to go. Valentine explained to Ender that Peter was going to send for him, and then use Ender to gain power. Valentine knew how miserable Ender would have been knowing how much he had already been through.
Valentine also did things to promote her brother Peter, such as playing as Demosthenes and helping him rise to power within the government. These actions were again only for the good of a family member. Many of her decisions didn't always play out as expected, but Valentine tried her hardest to show her true heart and how dedicated she was to her family. Valentines actions may have seemed ruthless, maybe even heartless to some. They truly show how she feels about family. It shows that family has utmost importance to her, and that even though her actions may hurt other characters, her intentions are only for the best of her family.
