JACE POV

I was surprised when I saw my wife at the living room the moment I entered the house. She was lying on the couch and already asleep. The TV was still on. A smile automatically appeared on my face. Looked like she waited for me but fell asleep.

I was about to lean over to kiss her when she suddenly moved as she shifted position. Her face looked sad.

I leaned on my knee and then stared at her beautiful face. Her forehead was creased as she kept on calling for our son's name. My heart ached. I could feel the longing and pain in her voice.

I touched her soft cheek in a feathery manner so that I woudn't wake her up.

"Shhh...Don't worry, mi amor. The moment I prove that our JC is really alive, I will do anything to bring him home to us." I whispered full of promise and then gently kissed her on the lips.

After that, I took the remote control and turned the tv off. I then carefully carried my wife up to our room and thankfully, she didn't wake up.

I put her down on the bed and then put a blanket on her. I decided to take a shower first before going to bed. I looked at the time and it was already 10:30 pm. I just came back because I had to meet with Viper devise a plan for tomorrow.

Thankfully, that friend of mine has time to help me on my mission tomorrow.

When I finished showering, I went out of the bathroom and then went to the walk-in closet to look for something to wear. I then blow-dried my hair before going to bed. I was about to join my wife in bed when she stirred and then opened her eyes.

I felt like a heel when I noticed that her eyes were wet with her tears.

"What happened, mi amor?" I asked tenderly and then laid down beside her. I gathered her into my arms and made her pillow on my chest.

"I dreamed of JC." Her voice cracked. "In my dream, I kept on calling for his name while chasing after him but he ran away from me." I kissed her forehead.

"Shhh. That's just a dream, mi amor. I'm sure that if JC was here and saw you, he would surely run straight to your arms. He was a mommy's boy after all." I tried to lift up the mood by trying to be positive even though I could feel her pain.

"If JC was really alive, do you think he will accept us as his parents?"

"Well, he doesn't have a choice because we're his parents. Besides, I am positive that even if he couldn't recognize us, our love for him will bring him closer to us."

"I hope so, mi amor, because I know that I won't be able to take it if he rejects us." She sobbed softly.

"Let's just hope for the best. I really hope that he's alive. I can't wait to make it up to him for the lost times." She nodded her head. I tightened my arms around her and then kissed her forehead once again. We stayed like that for a minute or so before I finally spoke.

"Mi amor, I have something to tell you."

"What is it about?"

I drew a deep breath. "Tomorrow, I will attend a charity auction. Guest who organized that event." She craned her head and looked at me with her eyebrows knitted together.

"Who?"

"It's Neo and Cade's adoptive father. Doctor Baron." She gasped in surprise.

"You mean-"

"Yes, mi amor. This is a big opportunity for me to discover what's really going on with the kids."

"But how did you manage to take this big step?" She looked impressed. I chuckled.

"I happened to run into him today. He almost caused an accident on the road. Thankfully, he's a reckless driver that's why I had the opportunity to meet him. He was in a hurry because he had to attend a medical mission and blood donation program." I said and then told her everything that happened.

But when I finished telling her what happened, I noticed that she looked worried.

"What happened? I thought, you would be impressed by me?" I asked. She heaved a sigh.

"I'm impressed. It's just that I can't help but to worry. What if-" Before she could finish what she was about to say, I put a finger on her lips to silence her.

"Don't be negative. Just trust me and everything will be alright." She bit her lower lip and then slowly nodded her head.

"I trust you. Just promise me to be careful."

"I promise." I changed the topic after that so that she wouldn't get stressed out. Then, the next morning, we went out for a date because it was Saturday. We went to the theater to watch a play and my wife loved it.

After that, we had lunch at our favorite restaurant. We then went to the mall to shop some clothes and I couldn't help but chuckle when Christine went to the baby section and excitedly looked for baby clothes. I did the same. Her excitement was contagious.

I felt so happy seeing her happy. We then went home after that because I had to get ready for the event.

"That auction is not just an ordinary auction. Yes, they try to make it appear like a charity auction but it's not. Every year, they hold this event to apparently help people in need but that's not all to it. They invite children from different foundations to attend.

"There's no proof about this yet but every year, after that auction, some children from different foundations suddenly disappears. I don't think this is just a coincidence. Since you have the chance to get in there, try to sharpen your eyes and look for any suspicious moves from the people there. Remember to be careful.

"These people are dangerous. For sure, Doctor Baron is already investigating you right now so make sure not to fall into his trap if he's planning any."

"Don't worry, bud. I won't. Anyway, thanks for the info. I need to go."

"Okay. Just call me if you need help." I ended the call and then contacted another person.

"I can see your car from here, bud." Viper said upon answering my call. Because I needed him in this mission, I assigned some of my men to guard my wife. I smirked.

"Okay. You know what you need to do. Don't mess up."

He scoffed. "You're the one who shouldn't mess this up, bud."

"Don't worry, bud. I'm ready as fùck." I answered confidently and I heard him laugh before I ended the call. I threw a glance at myself at the rearview mirror of my car.

"It's show time." I said before getting out of my car. Some people were already entering the house. I looked around and noticed some suspicious men lurking around the area. I'm certain that they're Doctor Baron's men.

I looked at the time. I was already 10 minutes late. I walked towards the entrance and the two men there instantly asked me if I had an invitation.

"I'm Mr. Slate Montes and I don't have an invitation with me, but I assure you that I got invited by Doctor Baron himself." They looked at each other before they nodded their heads.

"You can go inside now, sir." I flashed a smile before doing as I was told. A woman directed me to the garden where the charity auction takes place.

I got impressed by everything that I was seeing. Thankfully, I haven't seen familiar faces in the business industry so far. Well, I've avoided showing my face on the magazines and newspapers all these years so the only people who know me personally are the ones I had business transactions with in person before together with my employees.

The garden was huge enough to hold a big event like this. They even have a stage. The auction hasn't started yet and the people were casually sitting at their table why chatting and sipping on their drinks.

"I'm glad you came, Mr. Montes." I prepared a smile before turning around upon hearing that voice. It was Mr. Baron together with his wife.

"Good evening, Doctor Baron. Good evening too, ma'am." I greeted them formally.

"Good evening too, Mr. Montes. This is Charlotte, my wife. Honey, this is Mr. Montes, the one I was telling you about a while ago."

I faked a chuckle. "I hope you told her some positive things about me." I joked and Mrs. Baron laughed shily.

"Don't worry, Mr. Montes. My husband here just told me that you're a good person. You even participated at our blood donation program and now, you're planning to donate to our charity as well."

"Oh, that's nothing compared to what you and Doctor Baron do." Doctor Baron laughed.

"You really know how to act humble, Mr. Montes, even though you're one of Spain's top businessmen." I wasn't surprised of what he said. I was already expecting for him to investigate about me that fast. Thankfully, I was prepared.

"Trust me, Doctor Baron. Being humble is far from my vocabulary." He nodded his head while smiling.

"You're really an interesting man, Mr. Montes. Anyway, shall be go to our table?"

"Sure."

We sat at the same table which didn't surprise me too. I knew that Doctor Baron would make sure that his eyes would be fixed on me during the duration of the charity auction. Then, the bidding started.

Everything was normal. They auctioned different kinds of stuff.

"Aren't you going to bid, Mr. Montes? This is already the 5th item." Mrs. Baron said, referring to the painting of one of the greatest painters of all time.

"Well, I'm not into art. I'm waiting for something interesting to bid on." I answered and she nodded her head. I pretended to focus on the program, but I was looking around furtively, observing every person there.

"Ladies and gentlemen, before we continue with our bidding, let's first hear a special performance of the night from our dear children at Doctor Baron's Foundation! Let's give them a round of applause!" People clapped their hands as the children went up the stage.

There were around 35 of them. My fists tightened as the anger started surging inside of me. These children were probably whom T was talking about.

The children started singing 'The Greatest Love Of All'. But even though I felt like wringing Doctor Baron's neck, I managed to fake a smile.

"These children are so lucky because they have you two." I said to Mr. and Mrs. Baron which made them smile.

"We're the ones who's lucky because these children make us happy." Doctor Baron answered.

"What about your own children? I haven't seen them yet." I asked casually.

"Oh, they're probably somewhere. You know how children dislike events like this." Mrs. Baron answered. I nodded my head.

"Well, children have their own little worlds sometimes."

"You're right, Mr. Montes. But I will introduce them to you later."

"Okay, Doctor Baron. I'm excited to meet them. I'm sure, they're as kind as you two." They both chuckled.

When the children's song finished, my forehead creased when the host let them introduce themselves one by one. Their age range must be around 4 years old to 12 years old.

I looked around without being obvious and saw the obvious look on every predators' face in the event. They weren't doing anything other than stare at the children, but I could already read what's going through their creepy minds.

Then, the children went down the stage and the auction resumed.

"I'll just to go the restroom." I told the couple.

"Sure. Ask our crew at the door for the direction." It was Mrs. Baron. I smiled and then nodded my head. Upon walking away form them, my smile disappeared in an instant. When I reached the main door, I saw one of guards there.

"Excuse me. Where is the restroom here?" I asked.

"Walk straight to that direction and then turn left. It's on the first door."

"Okay. Thanks." I said and then did as I was told. While walking, my eyes were quickly scrutinizing my surroundings. I noticed a camera near the door. When I reached the restroom, pressed a button on my smart watch.

"Did you manage to do the plan?" I asked. Viper chuckled.

"Of course. Easy as pie. Don't worry. I already hacked every camera in this freakin' house." I smirked.

"Good." I ended the call and then went out of the restroom. Instead of going back to the garden, I explored the house while carefully moving, avoiding the guards.

I wanted to find any evidence I could use against the Barons. I checked every room that I saw until I arrived at the kitchen. Thankfully, there was no one inside the house aside from some guards. The foods at the event were already displayed on the buffet table that's why all the waiters were outside.

I looked around. There were foods there at the kitchen too but no one was there. I was about to leave because there wasn't anything to see there when I noticed something.

A small hand was reaching the food on top of the kitchen island. It was probably a kid, ducking at the corner so that no one could see him/her stealing food.

He/she managed to take a piece of fried chicken. I quietly approached his/her location just to be surprised when I saw a small boy, eating the chicken hungrily. Our eyes met and I felt like my body froze when those tantalizing electric blue eyes bored into mine.
