CHRISTINE's POV
I was on my way to the airport to pick up my sister and her family when my phone rang. It was my lawyer. I answered it right away.
"Hello, Mr. Moore. I expect to hear good news from you." I said, expecting that he already got what he went there for. I heard him sigh. He didn't answer for about three seconds and that made me furrow.
"I'm sorry, Ms. Lenard, but Mr. Montejo didn't agree to sign the divorce papers."
I gasped. "What?!" I almost stepped on the brake. Thankfully, I remembered that I was on the freeway.
"Yes, Ms. Lenard. He was so angry at me and even drove me out of his office without hearing everything that I wanted to say to him first." I gritted my teeth as anger began rising within me. Damn him! What does he want to prove?! He should be thankful that I want to divorce him already!
"Don't worry, Ms. Lenard, I'll go back to him one more time and—"
"—It's okay, Mr. Moore. Knowing him, he has a word of honor and if he said he wouldn't sign it, he would surely keep his word no matter what happens."
"Then, what do we do next, Ms. Lenard? I really thought that this divorce would be processed in a short period of time because you two have been separated for three years already. To be honest, I didn't expect his reaction."
I sighed. "I'll think for a way to convince him. I'll call you again after I think of any way to change his mind." After that, I ended the call. I released a harsh breath. I really didn't expect for him to not agree. I thought, it was easier to process everything after what happened in the past, but I was wrong.
My grip on the steering wheel tightened. "Relax, Tin. You should handle this calmly. You shouldn't let this get you. Just think of a way to get what you want. Remember, you can get what you want by being wise and calm." I talked to myself, trying to calm down.
Then, I arrived at the airport. I decided to forget about it for the meantime because I didn't want to ruin my reunion with my sister and her family. After I parked my car, I went to the arrivals area and waited for them there. They flew to New York on their private jet.
I waited for them patiently and after about 10 minutes of waiting, I finally got a glimpse of them. I couldn't help but to chuckle amusedly because Marco was carrying their son, who was crying, on his shoulders while Maggie was trying to calm her son down by holding his hand. They're really such doting parents.
She's pregnant with their second baby and on her fourth month. Behind them was their son's nanny.
"Mags!" I squealed full of excitement as I waved my hand, getting their attention. My sister's face brightened upon seeing me. I quickly ran towards them and rushed to my sister for a hug. It has been almost a year since the last time we saw each other.
They visited us in Houston last year and we celebrated Christmas and New year together as a complete family. That was before my mother decided to go home here to New York for good.
"Oh, my God! I missed you so much!" Maggie said full of joy as she hugged me back.
"I missed you too! It's been almost a year already. Thank God, because you decided to come home."
"Of course. I want to see mommy. How's she?" Worry was evident on her face. Even if she looked worried about our mother's situation, she still looks beautiful. Pregnancy becomes her. She obviously looks like a happy and contented wife and a mother and I'm happy for her.
I smiled. "Don't worry, Mags. She's now okay. Her operation was a success." Then, I remembered Marco and nephew who was now staring at me while softly crying.
"Hi, Marco. Long time no see. Sorry, I was just so excited seeing my sister that I forgot about you two." I playfully said and then gave my brother-in-law a bear hug. He chuckled.
"It's okay. I know that you two missed each other." Amusement was evident on his face. He then put their son down on his feet. I also gritted my nephew's nanny, Mary, and she gritted me back with a smile.
Then, my attention went back to my nephew.
"Hi, Marky boy. Why are you crying?" I asked my nephew sweetly and ruffled his hair. He looked so cute. He's already 2 years old. Everyone of us calls him Marky as a nickname but his real name is Marco Alessi II.
He just looked at me though his wet eyelashes and then ran towards his mommy. Marco shook his head; amusement was evident on his face.
"Sorry about that, Chris. He's crying because he left his toy on the plane. We already told him the we would buy him another one, but he still cried over it." Marco explained. I laughed. Sometimes, children cry over simple things but they're still so cute even though they're being a crybaby.
I couldn't help but to stare at my nephew as memories flowed on my mind. My chest tightened as the familiar pain attacked my heart. My eyes watered but I looked up in order to prevent it from falling. This wasn't the time for me to feel emotional like this.
I drew a deep breath and then tried my best to shake the thought away.
"Sweetheart, you should greet your Aunt Christine." I heard Maggie gently say to her son but his cries became loud again.
"I want mah toy!" He cried instead of doing what his mother told him.
"Son, stop. You're giving your mother a hard time. C'mon, buddy. Greet your Aunt Christine properly." It was Marco. He looked serious but not mad. He just obviously wanted to discipline his son. Marky's cry softened again as he wiped his tears with the back of his hands. He looked so adorable.
Then, to my surprise, he approached me. I crouched down to level our heights and he kissed me on the cheek.
"Good boy." I said sweetly and hugged him. "Don't worry, Aunt Christine will buy you a new toy. How's that?" His face brightened.
"Really?!"
"Of course, baby. It's my gift to you because you're such a darling." At last, a happy smile appeared on his face before running back to his mother's side.
"Mommy, Aunt Tin will buy me a new toy!" He said full of joy. His words weren't that perfect yet, but we could already understand his words clearly. He's such a lively kid whenever he's in a good mood. My smile slowly disappeared as my mind wandered somewhere else. Stop it, Tin! Don't you dare go there!
I heard Maggie and Marco chuckle amusedly because of their son's reaction.
After that, we went to the parking lot and drove home. It was already 5 pm and the visiting hours at the hospital was already over so we decided to go to the hospital tomorrow instead. As expected, our father, Robert Lenard, was so happy seeing everyone.
He didn't waste any time and play with his grandson. Of course, Marky was enjoying his grandpa's attention.
That night, we dined together. We couldn't help but to be sad our family wasn't complete. Our mother was still at the hospital. After dinner, me and my sister had the time to talk privately at the living room. Marco, Marky and daddy were in the family game room upstairs.
"So, how have you been these past months?" Maggie asked. We're currently watching a movie. I shrugged my shoulders.
"Well, I've been working hard for our company. It has been a very busy year for me actually." Maggie rolled her eyes.
"I don't want to talk about the company. What I meant was; about your personal life." Maggie stopped working after she got married to Marco because her pregnancy was delicate back then. But after she gave birth to their first born, they both decided for her to work when Marky gets older.
She just went back to work this year but not full time so that she could have time for their son. Marco was the same. Whenever he has the time, he takes vacation so that he could spend quality time with his family.
I chuckled. "What do you want me to say? I can't think of anything that I've been doing these past few years aside from working my a*s off."
Maggie shook her head in disbelief. "Tin, what happened to you? Yes, you're living a successful life but I can see that you're not happy. I mean, yes, I'm proud that my sister finally changed her ways and started taking life seriously, but this is too much. You don't even go out with your friends anymore."
"What do you mean? I am happy." She huffed then held my hand and stared at me intently.
"No, you're not and don't lie to me. I know you well enough because you're my sister." I was caught off-guard. My lips parted, wanting to falsify her claim but not a single word came out of my mouth.
I sighed in defeat. Well, she's my sister alright and I know that I can't lie to her even if wanted to.
"Tin, you should move on and forget everything. Don't let the past prevent you from being happy in the present."
"Mags, I've already moved on."
"Really? Then, what's the meaning of the sad expression on your face when we were at the airport this afternoon?"
My forehead crinkled. "What are you talking about? I wasn't sad."
She rolled her eyes again. "I clearly saw it while you were looking at Marky. It was brief but the look on your face was so sad. Don't try to deny it because I won't believe you."
I bit my lower lip and looked down. I really couldn't hide anything from her. Was I that obvious? I smiled bitterly.
"Well, who could get over something like that? You know how devastated I was, Mags. I couldn't accept it. Until now, it still gives me pain in my heart everytime I remember about it." I finally admitted it. My eyes watered.
Maggie pulled me for a hug. "Shhh. That's enough. I know that it's hard to accept what happened but you don't have to pretend like you already got over it even though you're still grieving inside. We're all here for you."
Hearing those words finally broke off my control. My tears fell like waterfalls. Yes, I've been working my a*s off these past few years in order to forget about what happened. I thought, I was already there, but now I realized that the pain was still fresh.
I didn't know how long I cried on my sister's chest. I poured everything out until my tears stopped on their own.
"Do you feel better now?" I nodded my head.
"Wait here." She said and went somewhere. When she came back, she already has a glass of water in her hand and gave it to me. I thanked her and drank its content. After that, I felt better.
"I'm sorry, I got your shirt wet." I said while chuckling after that. Maggie smiled.
"Crazy. It's nothing. You can wet it anytime you want but I hope that this will be the last time for you to cry like that. I want to see the old Christine. A happy and lively girl."
"I don't know if that Christine will ever come back, Mags. A lot has happened and—"
"—Don't say that. Time heals all wounds, Tin. Someday, you will surely find your happiness and when that time comes, I'll be the happiest for you." That made me smile. I leaned the side of my head on her shoulder.
"Thank you for the kind words, Mags. You really changed a lot ever since you married Marco."
"What do you mean by that?" I chuckled.
"Well, you were kinda dense and had your own little world back then. You didn't even notice that Marco has been in love with you for a long time because you never cared about what was happening around you. Now, you changed for the better."
It was her turn to chuckled. "Well, Marco and Marky are the best thing that happened to me, including our little one here." She caressed her tummy. "Being loved by your beloved husband and children is an incomparable thing and I wish for you to experience it too, soon. Anyway, don't tell me, you still don't have someone right now? Don't be too picky. How can you find happiness if you're like that."
"Mags, I need to fix things first before anything else. You know that."
She gasped. "Then, there's someone in your life already? Then, you should process your divorce as soon as possible so that you could finally give yourself another chance in love." She sounded so excited.
I leaned my back against the headrest of the couch and looked at the ceiling. I suddenly remembered about the divorce.
"I don't know, Mags. Mr. Moore went to MCC to talk to Jace, but apparently, Jace got mad and shooed him out of his office without signing the divorce papers."
"What?! He doesn't want to get divorced?!" Maggie said exasperatedly. I nodded my head as a response. I was about to say something when someone spoke.
"I'm sorry to say this Chris but knowing Jace, hell would break lose but he will never break his words. If he said that he doesn't want a divorce, he will surely stay true to his words." It was Marco. I looked at him. He looked serious.
I heaved a frustrated sigh. "I hate your friend, Marco. If he thinks that he can do whatever he wants, then he's wrong. I'll do anything in my power to make him sign the divorce papers." I answered through gritted teeth.
Amusement filled his eyes. "This is exciting. Let's see who among you two wins then."
"Marco! What are you saying?! This is not a game!" Maggie rebuked her husband. Marco chuckled and then sat on the vacant space beside Maggie.
"I was just kidding, my queen. This pregnancy really turns you into a tigress sometimes." He then kissed my sister's cheek. I rolled my eyes and the stood up. There they go again.
"I'll just go to my room. I don't have a plan to be a third wheel here." Maggie's cheeks became red while Marco laughed heartily. I shook my head. I can't stand seeing them being overly sweet like that because it always reminds me of someone.
I heaved a sigh and just went upstairs. I was about to go to my room when I heard the noises coming from the family game room. The door was slightly ajar. I peeped through the door and saw my father teaching Marky how to play piano.
The scene made me smile and decided to join them. Knowing, Maggie and Marco, they will surely go to their room soon to have some privacy.
The next morning after that, we all went to the hospital to visit our mom. She was so happy upon seeing my sister and her family. She said that she was already so excited to get out of the hospital because she wanted to spend quality time with us all.
But she still needed to stay for at least a week in the hospital so that the doctors could monitor her condition, if there would be any complications.
Maggie and I promised her that we would stay until she recovers. Marco and my father agreed. After that, I pushed through my plan later that day. I drove to MCC alone, determined to get what I wanted from Jace.
Upon getting out of my car, my heart was already racing, and I felt weird. But I ignored that and entered inside the tall glass building with my chin held up high.
Today's the day that Jace and I will finally talk for good.

I deliberately didn't mention anything about Sicily here because i didn't want to spoil what happened. It will be revealed in Marcus' story.
