Totally Not Suspicious Nathan
I don't know how or when, but at some point, Xander and I fell asleep. I had a really realistic dream. Or should I say, nightmare.
~~ooooh, dream time~~
Chaos. Utter chaos.
People's OTPs were falling apart. Characters were having their personalities watered down to one single trait by the fandom. Plots were given endings that made no sense, or worse, completely abandoned by the author. Mary Sue OCs were everywhere, wreaking havoc on the prosperous land of Wattpad.
A dark silhouette of a group rose from the destruction. Despair and determination radiated off their figures, their wings battered and bruised but still held up high and strong...
...wait, wings?
~~exit dream time, ooooh~~
"Get off me, stupid." Xander shoved me awake, hissing. Which, again, shouldn't be humanly possible. Why do people in stories keep hissing and growling? "It's probably past school hours by now. Let's go."
He heaved me up and dragged me all the way to the front of the school. Nobody was around except for one guy with brown hair.
He was looking around nervously, clutching his backpack in a very mysterious and suspicious manner. I sure wonder if that'll be relevant to the plot in any way.
Xander sucked in a breath of surprise. "That's him. Hey, you!" He yelled suddenly, taking me off guard. He never rushed into things like this unless he was completely serious.
The mystery guy jumped. "M- Me?" He stuttered.
"You're Nathan, right?" Xander asked. The other guy nodded tentatively.
"Is it okay if I ask what you know about Faith?"
Nathan jumped again, nearly dropping his backpack. "F- F- Faith?!" He covered his mouth, looked around, and said quietly to Xander, "Sh- She was my friend... but I d- don't know who her k- killer is."
I was already beginning to think this guy probably wasn't the killer after all. He was super suspicious, but the way he talked reminded me of annoyingly shy side characters that didn't have any traits besides timid and introverted.
Then again, if Harry Potter taught me anything, it's that people who stutter excessively should never be trusted.
Xander sighed. "Well, do you know anyone who might've killed her?"
Nathan frowned, his grip on his backpack tightening. "No." He said in a strange voice. Xander sighed again. I wanted to punch his nose to make him stop sighing like an edgy anime character.
"All right, thank you for your time." He said, turning around at me. "Come on, Sam." I followed him away, acutely aware of Nathan staring at us from behind. I'm sure that this'll totally end well.
Not.
I was walking home with Xander, lost in my thoughts about cookie recipes, when someone suddenly jumped out of a bush at us.
I only barely managed not to scream when I realized who it was.
"X-Xanny?" I yelped, surprised.
