You're No Good
Stevie was rushing around their San Francisco home, making sure Lindsey had everything he needed in order to take care of Iris. The older ones were dropped off at school already and though it would only be a few hours, she could tell Lindsey was nervous about being alone with their 9 month old daughter. She went upstairs briefly to finish getting ready, weaving her long hair into a braid and putting on a beret.
"Hey, pretty lady! Leaving already?" Lindsey asks, watching Stevie practically jump the stairs. She grabs her purse and jacket from the hall closet, looking over her shoulder at him.
"I'm going to be late" Stevie tells him.
"How about we put the baby to bed and you cancel your appointment for me? It's just hair. I think it looks fine."
"Linds..."
"Come on, Stevie. We never get alone time. We deserve a little fun"
"A little fun always results in another little one of these" she says as she lifts Iris from the high chair, placing her on her hip. She holds her close, kissing her baby's soft blonde curls and inhaling her delicious baby scent.
"So what? You look great with a baby. I wouldn't mind at least practicing...."
"She's not even one! I want to get married first."
"Set a date. I will marry you tomorrow."
"As tempting as that is so I can avoid trying to get everyone here for the ceremony, I don't think anyone would forgive us."
"Fine. I was just thinking about the wedding night!"
"Mind out of the gutter, Mr. Buckingham."
"Join me in the gutter, Mrs. Buckingham." He kisses her on the lips, lingering.
"Future Mrs. Buckingham." she corrects. "For some reason, that sounds incredibly unappealing"
"You know what I mean" Lindsey sees her eyes drift to the clock on the wall. "I know, you need to go."
"Will you be okay here?"
"She's mine, too, y'know?"
"I know"
"She's a piece of cake. The easiest out of all of our babies."
"Alright then." Stevie hands Iris off, stroking her sweet chubby cheeks. She kicks her legs, leaning back toward her mother. "I can't wait to come back and play with you before your big brother and sister get home, sweet girl."
"Steves" Lindsey says.
"I told you I'm late" She turns to face him and he smirks, holding her keys in his thumb and index fingers. He jingles them, summoning her to jog over in platform boots and snatch them from his hand.
"You're welcome" he says, knowing full well she never thanked him.
"Shut up" She's smiling, thankfully. "Okay, I'm leaving. No more delays." She kisses Lindsey one more time then heads out the door. He hears her start her car and goes to the window with Iris to watch her back out of the driveway. The baby waves and Lindsey smiles.
"Just you and me, kid"

Stevie huffed, hitting every red lift imaginable. It was her own private jam session as she wove in and out of traffic, trying to make perfect time. She turned up her stereo, singing along to a Linda Ronstadt song.
Feeling better now that we're through
Feeling better 'cause I'm over you
I learned my lesson, it left a scar
Now I see how you really are
You're no good
You're no good
You're no good
Baby you're no good
I'm gonna say it again
You're no good
You're no good
You're no good
Baby you're no good
I broke a heart that's gentle and true
Well I broke a heart over someone like you
I'll beg his forgiveness on bended knee
I wouldn't blame him if he said to me
You're no good
You're no good
You're no good
Baby you're no good
I'm gonna say it again
You're no good
You're no good
You're no good
Baby you're no good
"Sing it, mama!" Stevie shouted, feeling the music. Music always helped lift her mood. She suddenly wasn't so annoyed by all the slow drivers, the non-stop construction and people jutting into her lane.
I'm telling you now baby and I'm going my way
Forget about you baby 'cause I'm leaving to stay
You're no good
You're no good
You're no good
Baby you're no good
I'm gonna say it again
You're no good
You're no good
You're no good
Baby you're no good
Oh, oh no
You're no good
You're no good
You're no good
Baby you're no good
She finally made it, hopping out of her car and grabbing her purse. She made her way inside, seeing her stylist immediately. She hung up her coat, placed her bag on the counter and sat down in the chair. She was in for quite a process. It had been forever and she wanted to soak in the experience.
Stevie leaves the hair salon a few hours later with her roots done, fresh soft layers, highlights, bangs trimmed and shaped up as well as a blowout. She felt so good about being able to spend a little time on herself. Her cellphone began to ring as she fished for her keys.
"Great timing, Linds. I just got out!" Stevie says, accepting the call. She locates her keys in her bag and is walking toward her car in the lot.
"Hey" the voice says. It sounded familiar but not who she thought it was. The person had a tentative tone that sent a shiver down her spine. She was kicking herself for not looking at the ID before picking up.
"Hello?" Stevie was a little confused. "Sir, I think you have the wrong number"
"Stevie, it's me..." Before she could talk, the speaker continued. "I was released for good behavior. My family disowned me, the business is a mess from what I hear. Dad gave it to a family friend because of all I've done. I'm so lonely, Stevie and I'm so depressed. I'd...I'd really like to see you."
"Brock"
"Baby, please...I'd do anything to just get 5 minutes."
"I don't think that's a good idea."
"Then why haven't you hung up?" he asked and Stevie was at a loss. "Please. 5 minutes isn't very long. I could meet you somewhere in public, we wouldn't be alone together"
"I have to go"
"Ste--" She cut him off, ending the call immediately. She unlocks the car door with shaking hands and let's herself break down once inside. She tried to calm herself down, dying to go home. How dare he call after all this time! She was finally getting closure and learning not to look over her shoulder. She had been officially engaged recently, all of her children were thriving and happy. Why now? She started the car, taking deep breaths as she drove. Time passed so slowly. She barely remembered parking the car, walking through the door of their home. She was in a daze.
"Stephanie, what happened?" Lindsey asked, stroking her hair. Their baby was taking a nap, he had just laid her down. The kids would need to be picked up soon but that didn't matter right now. "Steph?" She looked up at him, tears still falling down her face. "Are you okay?" She shook her head and his stomach dropped. He held her even tighter, consoling her to the best of his ability. Even as she found herself in Lindsey's arms, she couldn't shake the feeling that something was going to go very, very wrong.
You're no good
You're no good
You're no good
Baby you're no good
A/N: thank you for sticking by me! I love to update but haven't had much time. Also, if you watch the video above, Waddy is playing lead guitar for Linda! Cool, eh?
