Stay My Love
Stevie and Lindsey had stayed by their son's bedside night and day. When he awoke, he was in pain and the doctor came in to monitor him as he had put him on a round of medication. The medicine made their boy so sleepy and it worried them both, but at least he wasn't in pain.
Stevie couldn't stop crying. How could something like this happen? They were told he was lucky to have only sustained a couple of fractured ribs, a broken leg, a massive concussion, and a little road rash when it could have killed him. The impact on his body was so great but he was a strong boy. They both knew that Dylan, like his twin sister, had always been a fighter.
Stevie was a mess. She worried about her son of course, but what about Callie and their baby daughter Iris? Obviously her parents were well equipped to take care of them while Dylan was in the hospital but she missed them so much. Lindsey was in and out, talking to doctors, making phone calls and getting coffee for each of them that Stevie never drank. Stevie very rarely moved from her position in the chair beside his bed. If she did, it was only to use the bathroom. The two of them, Stevie and Lindsey, had barely spoken the entire time. Days were filled with silence and machines, making things harder on both of them.
Dylan was woken up to try to eat with the help of a nurse propping his pillows, his pain was a lot less today and he even gave a small smile to his mother. He grew tired quickly, however, and he was asleep again in no time. Stevie stroked his soft waves and kissed his face. "I wish I could take this from you" she whispered, tears in her eyes.
"I wish I could too" Lindsey said. He looked at her with such sadness in his eyes and she had to look away. Then she remembered the confirmation of his love from a few of days before. She would do anything to feel his arms around her, comforting her instead of feeling so alone but how would they get back to that?
"I'm sorry" she said, a single tear falling down her cheek.
"For what?" he asked.
"For Brock, for this whole thing...I caused it."
"You did not" he told her firmly.
"I set it all in motion. My mistakes created all of this"
"Stop that right now. You didn't do anything. Yeah, sure, I was upset over Brock but I'm letting it go. I can't lose you again. You mean way too much to me to let someone like him get in my way for a second, third, maybe fourth time. Hell no, Stevie."
"But I--" she begins but is quickly interrupted by a kiss on her lips. He pulls away, watching her reaction. He smirked, seeing an instant change in her.
"Tell me, did that feel like I'm still mad at you? Did that feel like I don't love you and forgive you?"
She touched her lips with her fingertips. "...No" she said finally. "Can I...play you a song?"
"Sure" he says, not quite sure what to expect. She digs in her bag for her iPod and hands him the ear buds.
"If I listen, I'll cry" she says and he nods. He puts the earbuds in and watches her look for the song she needs. She presses play and watches as the music hits him.
Won't you stay, my love
You come and go
Won't you stay, my love
Want you to know you give me just enough
Won't you stay, my love
Oh would you be my love
'Cause I will give you all of me, my love
To the moon and back is not enough
Would you be my love
You hold my heart
Right in your hands
You take control
Of all that I am
Do you feel the same
Do you feel the same
Lindsey watched as she bit her lip and swayed. She was waiting for him to understand and she was so nervous. He could feel it. Without warning, he pressed himself to her and wrapped his arms around her waist. He began to sway in time with the music and she followed though she couldn't hear it. They always fit so perfectly together. He pressed her head to his chest, closing any gap they may have had and she begins to cry all over again.
Please just stay, my love
Don't you ever walk away, my love
Even just for one more day, my love
Won't you stay, my love
You hold my heart
Right in your hands
You take control
Of all that I am
Do you feel the same
Do you feel the same
'Cause all of my life
I have been searching
And with you I'm alive
And all the pain's been worth it
And if only for tonight
Won't you please stay right by my side
Oh would you be my love
(Ooh would you be my love)
'Cause I will give you all of me my love
To the moon and back is not enough
Would you be my love
Would you be my love
(Would you be my love)
Would you be my love
The song ends and he takes the ear buds out, placing it on the side table. She looks up at him and Lindsey smiles. "I thought you said you'd only cry if you listened?" He joked light-heartedly.
"I guess I didn't need to listen. Watching you, being close with you, it's a miracle you'd even want to hold me anymore"
"I've been dying to hold you my entire life and I don't think those feelings will be going away any time soon. I love you, I will always love you."
"I love you too" she says.
"Kiss her already!" A voice from the other side of the room said.
"Dylan?" They asked in unison, thinking he was still asleep.
"Pretend I'm not here. Just kiss!" They smiled at their boy, then turned back to each other, kissing passionately. Lindsey's hand tangled in her long blonde hair and her fingers curled into his ringlets. She released her hand from his hair and stroked his face, his arms then trailed her fingers up to the back of his neck. They were pressed so tightly together they could have melted into one person. Their kiss deepened immensely as the seconds passed, only begin pulled apart by a typical smart remark from their son.
"Okay, okay...when I said pretend I'm not here, I don't think I knew what I was getting into" The two pulled apart, laughing lightly. "Get a room!"
"At least he's feeling a little better" Lindsey said, looking down at Stevie.
"Mom, Dad, I'm okay here and you both look horrible..."
"Thanks Dylan" Lindsey said sarcastically.
"You know what I mean- go home, shower, whatever" he said with a shrug.
Stevie and Lindsey looked at each other, confirmed the idea with their son and cautiously made their way out. They were a phone call away, it wasn't a far drive back and they needed to spend time with their other kids as well. They hated having to take their separate cars home but knew it needed to be done. Lindsey called Stevie on her cellphone, hoping she would pick up and agree to his crazy idea he suddenly had.
"Hey" Stevie said. "Something wrong?"
"No, uh you know how Dylan said we needed to go home, shower or....whatever?"
"Yeah?" She asked, trying to pay attention to the traffic.
"Well, I kind of liked the idea of whatever"
"Me too" she says, her voice becoming quieter and breathy as if she were confirming a secret. Knowing the other's intention, they both hung up and raced home.
Lindsey arrived before her, unlocking the door. She went inside, taking off her boots, already noticing a trail of his clothes through the house. She smiled to herself, her excitement growing as she got closer to the bedroom. There were a few candles lit, the lights were low and incense was burning. Her eyes caught sight of his body in the incandescent glow and she herself was set ablaze, ripping her own clothes off and crawling across their large bed to meet him with a smoldering kiss.
"We're going to have to get them a house warming gift as a thank you for all they have done for us. Two houses in two different states..."
"They like spending time with their grand children."
"Yes" she says, exploring his body, as he explored hers with his mouth. She loved feeling his hot, wet kisses planted on her skin after so long. "It was lucky that they were here at a time like this."
"Shhh" he says, putting a finger to her lips. "You're thinking too much"
"I can't stop"
"Let me help"
"I still think we need to do something for them"
"How about a fourth grandchild?" He says.
"You're so bad" she says, giggling girlishly.
"When I'm bad, I'm better" he says, kissing her lips. It was like he flipped a switch inside of her that finally quieted her mind. He climbed on top of her, watching her chest heave. She flung her head to one side, begging for him to kiss her neck, giving him the most access she could. He understood her cues and descended upon her once again.
Cause all of my life
I have been searching
And with you I'm alive
And all the pain's been worth it
And if only for tonight
Won't you please stay right by my side
