Changing Of The Seasons

Stevie has gone to their rental property to measure for blinds and work on one of the other rooms that needs painting. The kids are in their rooms playing video games and Lindsey is in his office, working on a draft for his newest project. A loud banging on the door is heard down the hall and Lindsey rushes to answer it. He wasn't expecting anyone. Maybe it was Stevie? She locked her keys in the car all the time and she always needed Lindsey to save her.

"You did it again?" He asked with a smile as he opened the door. He looked up and saw red. "What the fuck do you think you're doing here, Brock?"

"I came for Stevie" he says.

"She's not here"

"Where is she?"

"Like I'd tell you! You hurt her that night. She was a mess! How dare you lay hands on my wife!"

Brock gave him a nasty grin. "Your wife? Dude, you haven't been married in years! She was closer to being mine than yours"

"She's her own person and she didn't want to be with you so you used whatever strength you had to abuse her. She's smaller than you. Why don't you try that on someone your own size?" Lindsey said.

"You want to fight me? Calm down old man."

"You're an asshole. You should leave."

"I need to see her. I'm not leaving without her"

"I already told you she's not here. She's working"

Just then, they hear the sound of an engine behind them. A purple Jeep is now in the drive way, unmistakably Stevie's. She hesitates getting out, seeing Brock's gaudy ride parked sideways in the yard.

"Stevie" Brock says as she approaches. She slides past him, going to stand beside Lindsey. He kisses her and wraps a protective arm around her.

"You're back early" Lindsey said.

"I came back for lunch" she said, giving him a certain look to tell him it wasn't food she was after.

"Oh" He kissed her again.

"But now that's ruined. What are you doing here?" She asks the younger man.

"I'm going out of my mind without you. I'm sorry for how I treated you and I want you back"

"I'm not available" she says.

"You're available when I say you're available." He says haughtily.

"That's enough" Lindsey says, stepping into the conversation. "You won't talk to her that way"

"So you're loved up with him again?"

So it's over? I didn't realize
It's so much colder
But it was no surprise

Did you ever
Get to know me?
'Cause it has never been so plain to see

"It's none of your business" Stevie says. "You didn't care about me anyway. You wanted a trophy! I heard all about what you said about me and my children."

"Letting this guy feed you lies just so he can get you back in bed...that's desperate"

"No, actually, I heard it from my daughter. And I will not have you saying things like that on my property. I can and will have you removed" Stevie says, stepping out of Lindsey's arms and scaring Brock a little.

When you say you won't forget me
I can tell you that's not true
'Cause every day since you left me
I've thought less and less of you

And I've worn out all the reasons
To keep on knocking at your door
Could be the changing of the seasons
But I don't love you anymore

He presses his luck and grabs her wrist, pulling her to him and kissing her on the mouth. She tries to push him off her but he's too strong. Lindsey pulls Stevie back into the house forcefully and punches Brock square in the face. The Texan stumbles back, his temper like a raging bull. He tackles Lindsey and they're rolling around in the dirt, wailing on each other. First, Brock is on top of Lindsey, going for the chest and face, then Lindsey gains power and pins him down. Stevie is visibly upset, shielding her children from the scene, as they had heard the noise and joined her at the door.

"Stop it, you're acting like animals!"

"Mommy, what happened?" Callie asks, sobbing.

"Shhh...we need to talk later, please go back to your rooms"

"What if you try to break them up and they hurt you, mom. I'm not leaving you" Dylan says, puffing his chest. He had a lot of lean muscle and could definitely do some damage if crossed but Stevie had a hard time thinking about this as it was.

"I appreciate your concern but please listen to me, baby." He looks into her eyes then deflates, nodding. "Good boy" He kisses his mother's cheek then follows his sister to the other room.

"I don't like this, Cal"

"I don't, either. I've never seen daddy act like this before"

"Neither have I but it has to be something big or else he wouldn't be protecting her"

"Mommy looked scared"

"She was" Dylan said sadly. "I'm going to call the police"

"Yes, we have to! I don't want to see anything else happen" The kids dialed 911 and the cops came so quickly, it shocked them. They pulled the men off of each other, two officers taking the men aside to question them. A female officer arrived as well to talk to Stevie but she was beyond words. The woman sat with her, comforting her as she watched Brock pacing angrily like a caged animal.

Brock had a busted lip and some bruising under one eye but that was really all he had because Lindsey had pinned him down eventually. Lindsey was a little more banged up. He too had a busted lip and a bruise forming on his cheek but most of his pain came from the blows to the torso. When Stevie had gathered herself, she was told it was okay to see the man of her choosing. Obviously, she chose Lindsey. She heard Brock calling after her, telling her how much he loved her and she hated hearing those words.

"You lied to me" she shouted, turning around to face him. "Don't you dare come to my house uninvited ever again! You have no right! We've been over for weeks!"

"Stevie, baby..." Brock begins.

"I am not your baby. Don't even speak my name! I'm so disappointed with who you turned out to be" she said quietly.

The door is open
You whisper to me
As you stood frozen
Deep on certainty

I hope that you know
What I am thinking
Before you go
With your heart sinking

"Please give me another chance" Brock says.

"You've gotten so many chances, Brock. I didn't press charges in Dallas but I'm certainly pressing them now! There is no way I'm going to let this go. My children saw you attacking their father" An officer came over trying to silence them both. "You're a monster! You scared them! Now I have to explain to my children what happened. My daughter was crying. Do you know how that feels?! I hate you!" She screams.

"Mrs. Buckingham, you have got to calm down" the officer told her.

"What do I have to do to never see him again?" Stevie asks, venom dripping from her words as she glared at him.

"I love you, please don't"

"Do I have to fill out a report or what?" Stevie asks, ignoring Brock.

When you say you won't forget me
Well I can tell you that's not true
'Cause every day since you left me
I've thought less and less of you

And I've worn out all the reasons
To keep on knocking at your door
Could be the changing of the seasons
But I don't love you anymore
Anymore
Anymore

Lindsey stands by her side, an arm wrapped around her now and Brock is fuming.

"Come back to Dallas. I will make your life better. Give me another chance"

"She already said no." Lindsey told him.

"Stay out of it, Lindsey. This has nothing to do with you." Brock says.

"It has everything to do with me" Lindsey says, stepping toward Brock. Brock steps forward too and the officers pull them back again.

"Mr. Buckingham, do I need to take you to the station with Mr. Mason? There will be no more fighting. It's best if you don't get involved" Lindsey nods, backing down. He wanted nothing to do with the other man.

You say come back and spend the night
Come back and spend the night
With me
You say come back and spend the night
Come back and spend the night
With me
You say come back and spend the night
Come back and spend the night
With me
You say come back and spend the night
Come back and spend the night
With me

When you say you won't forget me
I can tell you that's not true
'Cause every day since you left me
I've thought less and less of you

Brock was being taken to the police cruiser and Stevie was filling out the last of the paperwork. She wanted this nightmare to be over. She wasn't crying or sad and was so very calm. Lindsey was worried what the aftermath of this would be. She's holding it together so well. Brock was still shouting his undying love for her and she refused to process it. It sounded like he meant it but she wouldn't even entertain the idea of it being the truth. She watched him be put into the car, an officer placing a hand on the back of his head and he looked at her with desperation. She simply shook her head, angry tears finally falling once he could no longer see.

And I've worn out all the reasons
To keep on knocking at your door
Could be the changing of the seasons
But I don't love you
Anymore
