Chapter Twenty-Six: Past
A/N: Hello Readers! I know last chapter was really sad but Eryn doesn't have healing powers. She has dark powers, nothing but destruction comes from it. I am sorry if you didn't like how it ended but I do believe in every story there should be a tragic moment. I do thank everyone who reads my story. To the right is a picture of Ryan and I know this one took forever to come out but I'm almost done with chapter 27 and I'll have it out in two days tops. I am close to finishing this book so I will have more pictures of the other co-characters for sure. THANK YOU ALL. Enjoy!
CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX
{Connor's POV}
The cold hard smell of rogue and blood loomed in the distance. From where I was running I could smell burning metal and rubber and in the distance I could see the flames from what looked like a car. Finally seeing Eryn and a smile spreading across my face but the smile quickly faltered when I watched her cradling Caine. Caine. In seconds I stood in front of them in wolf form. Knowing me even in my form, Eryn looked up a me with puffy and red eyes. Her tears had been falling and her sniffling hadn't stopped. She was holding Caine's lifeless body and I then seen the wound that was covered by a black shirt. Even thought the shirt was black, I could tell how soaked it was. This wasn't happening. I nudged his body with my wolf nose and he didn't move. His eyes were still open as I tried to connect with him,
"Caine! Get up." No answer. This had to be one of his little jokes. I nudged him again and still he wasn't responding.
"He's . . . He's gone." Eryn said with more tears coming down and her cry just above a whisper. I transformed into my human form, not caring that I was naked infront of her and knelt down,
"No he's just-" I said, forcing the tears back. I set two fingers onto his neck, checking for a pulse. Nothing. I shook him, "Come on man, this isn't you." A tear made it's way down my cheek as I nudged him again. He was cold and pale.
"I still . . . I still have so much to teach you . . . Cai-" I couldn't finish the rest of my sentence as the water works started.
"No-" I started to say as the cries exited my lips. No. This isn't happening. I was too late. I held onto him now as Eryn hadn't let his hand go. He was cold and pale. He was gone. He was- even thinking had my words tangled. I didn't care for the tears that now poured down. This was my fault and I set him back down onto Eryns lap, stood up and transformed back into my wolf.
"Connor!" Eryn called out for me but I ignored her and took off towards where the rogue and the smell of another wolf was. The smell was familiar, Ryan Voulder. They were in the distant and I watched as the rogue knocked a brown furred wolf down and he flew across the ways, now unconious. The rogue now faced me as I kept running at him and I was surprised when he turned into his human form. My wolf stopped as we recognized the rogue. Andrus Wilson, Dante's old Beta.
{Brody's POV}
I was already out of the bar before Greg told me Eryn was in trouble. Gina didn't need me to tell her stay and close up the place. I was running aside the pack as Maria took Drayden's Mustang. She was a few miles behind. It took us longer then we thought to get to where the commotion was and that's when I caught site of Eryn's car in flames and then I seen Eryn just a few ways of where the car was. I was in front of her in seconds and went dead cold. The strong smell of Caines blood filtered my thoughts and then his pale body made me go limp. Eryn stared up at me, her cries deep and tears pouring.
"Brody-" she sobbed out but more tears poured. Even the eerie smell of death wasn't hard to miss. I went to my knees and hesitated to set my fingers onto Caine's neck. I knew better that he was dead. Shakingly I did place my fingers onto his neck and was hoping to feel a pulse. Nothing.
"Eryn. Let him go." I whispered as she shook her head, not wanting to. I set my hand on her shoulder and she looked up at me again as she nodded once, let his hand go and I took him from her. Just in time, Maria pulled up from behind and when I turned her way, she gasped as she ran towards me, meeting me half way,
"Caine!" she yelped. The others must have followed to where Connor went because they were nowhere in site and Connor's smell wasn't around. Maria then started to cry, "He's-" she started and I nodded once as I told her to hold her arms out, "Take him to the car, cover him." She held her arms out and I set Caine in her care. She stared down at him, her tears dripping onto his pale skin. She finally turned away and ran to the car. I then turned around to go back towards Eryn. She was still sitting down at the same spot, staring down at where Caine's body had been. A trail of blood was met by a small puddle in the front of her. She was shaking, sobbing and heart broken all at once. I walked back to her and she set her hand onto the spot where Caine was,
"H-he protected me. I . . . " she stopped and more sobbing started. I knelt down and threw my hands around her to comfort her. She cried into my shirt as I cooed her and told her it would be alright. She sniffled more tears back and now held onto me, "He's gone!" she said and then kept on saying she was sorry. I've never heard her so weak and hurt. She held onto me as if I was going to leave her. I combed my fingers through her hair and she was now shivering from the cold air that blew past us. I felt her chills run up her arms and yet she didn't seem to notice. I was sure about one thing; I didn't want her anywhere near Caine's body.
{Connor's POV}
He knew I recognized him but why didn't my wolf move towards him. Andrus folded his arms,
"Surprised?" I didn't dare change back to my human form. I wasn't stupid but he didn't seem to be intimidated by me. The last time he seen me was when I was 18 and when Dante was Alpha. He chuckled,
"Come on Connor why don't you transform to your human side. I won't look." he winked with sarcasm. Before I could move, Ryan was already up and tackled Andrus down. Ryan was a strong Alpha but not as strong as I was. Andrus knocked him off and transformed back to his wolf form as I finally got the smarts to move towards the two fighting wolves. I grabbed Andrus by the throat and threw him off of Ryan, who now stared up at me. I ignored his stare and turned to face where Andrus was thrown but instead caught him running away from us. I growled and ran after him. I knew Ryan was behind me so I picked up my speed towards Andrus. I remembered Andrus being the fastest wolf in the pack. That didn't change as I kept up with his scent. Where he was running I wasn't too sure but I kept following behind. Ryan didn't seem to give in either and I was now angry at the fact that Ryan was even here.
I now noticed our direction; we were heading into the city. I picked up my speed to catch up with Andrus and hopefully lose Ryan. Still I didn't seem to get any better at the two options. What the hell was Andrus doing in this area and why did he kill Caine? Caine. He was really gone.
"Drayden . . ."
"Were right behind you. We missed you just as you took-"
"Don't follow. It's Andrus and he-" I paused just for a second to swallow the now forming lump in my throat.
"He killed Caine." I forced the words out and then silent. For a moment, no one had answered me. Just saying the words again hurt. I had to chance to kill Andrus but my wolf wouldn't respond quick enough and I didn't push the matter. Finally Kenneth answered,
"Does this have anything to do with the message that Pennlope left back at the dock?" the question surprised me and Drayden asked,
"What message? And where is Caine?"
"It shouldn't. How does this connect?" I asked Kenneth and he answered,
"Andrus would only follow one man to the end of the earth and that would be-"
"Don't mention his name." I growled and Kenneth went silent but Drayden asked,
"What is he talking about Connor?"
"It's nothing Drayden. Just get back to Caine and Eryn. I've got-" I was about to say but Drayden surprisling cut me off,
"Connor! As your Beta, I understand to stand my ground when it comes to authority but as your friend and brother I don't like to be left in the dark. Like Andrus, I would follow you to the ends of the earth but if I have to second guess myself, I'm not too sure." I sighed deep.
[They have the right to know. After what happend to Caine, they have every right. This could be the same situation, after all, you didn't full-fill your mission 4 years ago.] my wolf had answered. I didn't want to be reminded of four years ago. Not by my wolf.
"Drayden, right now isn't a good time to say anything but get Caine and Eryn out of that area. Once I take care of Andrus we'll need to sit down for a meeting. At this moment, I think it's better if I face you all. But Andrus is headed into the city. Make sure Eryn is safe." Drayden agreed and did as I told him to. I could still feel Ryan in the back of me but Andrus was out of site. His scent was still strong as we now entered the city of New York. The only thing about the city was keeping in the shadows and out of site from the humans. Whatever Andrus was doing in the city I had a feeling it wasn't a good thing.
The lights in the city were brighter then what I was use to but maybe it was because I was now impatient on finding Andrus. I lost his scent and I lost Ryan back a few ways. I didn't need him screwing things up. I snuck into an open window apartment and was lucky to find that there was a couple living inside, who were asleep so I grabbed some clothes of the man of the apartment and threw them on. Quietly exiting the apartment, I began sniffing the air to try and catch a scent but nothing. That was like Andrus; if he wanted to be found he would let you find him but why would he be in New York? The streets weren't as busy but it was nearing one in the morning. My thoughts seemed to juggle itself from Caine to Eryn to Andrus all at once. I kept my head up to make sure I was walking in the direction I last smelt his scent. I didn't really recognize the area and I hadn't caught his scent yet. I knew one thing, he must've have transformed back into his human side to blend in.
Where the hell did he go. I was going to avenge Caines death but there was a small thought in the back of my head; Was it Dante?
[Flash Back]
The sun beamed into my room as it touched the part of my arm that wasn't covered by the sheets wrapped around me. My eyes blinked until they adjusted to the light and I slowly sat up but feeling Marias arm on me. I looked to where she slept, naked next to me. What had happened? I then looked down at myself also naked. No way. We . . . We didn't just? I quickly got out and grabbed the sheet I was wrapped in and Maria moved a bit but opened her eyes, smiling up at me,
"Hey handsome." she smiled up at me and I combed my fingers through my hair,
"Did we . . . I mean, we didn't?" I asked, shocked and hoping we didn't. She scrunched her brows together, grabbing the sheet around her to cover up and now sitting up,
"Yes, we did. We both enjoyed it and you don't remember?" she asked with saddness in her voice. I cursed under my breathe as she tightened the sheet around her.
"Maria, I . . . I can't remember anything from last night. I had too much to drink and I . . ." I paused because I remembered doing beer pong with the guys, dowing a whole two boxes between Drayden and I. Then taking shots after and more beer to go with it. After that, I don't know what happened. I cursed under my breath again and Maria's face had turned sad as she tried to look for her shirt.
"Maria, I'm sorry but I can't remember." she didn't say anything when she finally found her top and then her bottoms and got out of my bed. She sighed, "Well you weren't in your right mind when I helped you up the stairs to your room. But I did push the issue about us." She said as she folded her arms across her chest.
"Us?" I asked.
"I know we said we would go our seperated ways and just be friends but. . . " She stopped and just smiled at me, "You know what, it doesn't really matter. How about this, this never happened, okay?" She grabbed her under garments from my bedroom floor and forced a smile,
"Don't worry, I won't make it awkward for us. I know it was just a whole week of celebrating your brothers ritual of being the new Alpha and my sister being the new Luna of this pack. I only came to the pack for her. Friends still?" she finally finished and I didn't what the hell was going on. She had went from sad to totally dodging what just happened but I nodded and she gave me one last grin as she exited my room. I listened until I heard the front door close and I watched as she walked to her car then leaving my drive way. I quickly threw some underwears on and some pants as I walked out of my room and into the hall of the upstairs. I couldn't remember anything from last night. They weren't kidding when you couldn't handle the liquor when you were under age and I was 17. I walked down stairs to an empty living room. I know our parents were out in Ireland, letting other packs know of the new Alpha and Luna. They house was empty because the celebration of my brother being the new Alpha and Santana being the new Luna was held in the coucils hall. All I knew was I was with Drayden and Greg but how did I get to my house.
I walked into the kitchen and grabbed the home phone, dialed Dante's number and waited until he picked it up. I hoped that Maria wouldn't tell her sister. It wouldn't be a good idea.
"Hello!" Dante's voice answered through the reciver.
"Dante . . . Where you at man?" I asked, checking the time ahead of me on the clock on the stove. It was almost noon.
"Home man. You at the parents place?"
"Yeah. I was so wasted last night. I can't even remember what happened . . .I woke up . . . Next to Maria." I finished.
"So? You always cuddle with her. Hold on." he said. I could hear a small muffle and I knew he was with Santana. I then heard a door open and then close. A few minutes later he finally spoke,
"Okay. I didn't want to wake Santana. I'm on my front porch. What;s up man?"
"I woke up naked next to her. She was naked too." I heard a long sigh and then a gasp,
"No way man! You both took eachothers V-card?" he said, laughing now and I grunted,
"That's besides the point man. I did something that no man should do."
"What?"
" I told her I was drunk and didn't remember anything." I felt bad for her but I didn't feel anything from it. Dante started to laugh harder then he should be. I knew he would. I wanted to save myself for my mate but obviously my hormones kicked in. Dante was still laughing and I grunted agains,
"Come on, it wasn't funny. I really couldn't rememeber anything from last night. Remind me to never chase my shots with beer." I sat down on the stool of our bar table and sighed, "She took the rejection quite well. She said for us to pretend it didn't happen and-"
"Wait! She said to pretend that it didn't happen?" he asked cutting me off.
"Yeah. Why?" I asked and he started to laugh some more, "Dude! You crushed her heart man. Oh man, she's not going to let this go."
"What? Really? She seemed fine about it."
"Well yeah she says that but in reality it's hell for you. She isn't going to let this one go. You might as well leave the pack and be a rogue." jokingly.
"Aren't you suppose to be the new Alpha? You aren't acting like one." I reminded him and he still laughed, "I'm fully Alpha once dad gets back. just because I'm 21 doesn't mean my childish side doesn't need to show. But in reality, I don't think you should worry too much. She isn't your mate. Yes you wanted to save yourself for your mate, what wolf doesn't but shit happens. You'll be fine and she'll be fine. Don't worry too much about it. You need to get ready, the parents are coming back tonight to finish the passing of the Alpha. We need to get the city hall back into shape." he said and I nodded as he hung up. I did the same and ran back up stairs to take a shower.
Dante had his Beta, Andrus, help out with getting things ready at the city hall while Drayden and I ran to the market to grab some stuff we might need. He drove his mustang into the city of Pennsalvania. The city was always a bit busy but since we just needed food for the pack we headed to WalMart. You could never go wrong with WalMart.
We got back just in time to have everything set up for the meeting in the town hall. I sat in my room with Drayden, who was now looking up inappropriate things on my computer. I told him about the incident between Maria and I and he laughed at it. I didn't think it was too funny. He told me we would both get over it. He then tried to ask if she had a nice rack and I told him I'd never tell him that. Even if I did, I couldn't remember.
"Dante must be siked for this day." Drayden mentioned.
"He better be. He's the new Alpha and all packs we've conquered have no choice but to obey him. He's the right person for it." Drayden nodded and then asked,
"You've got Alpha blood in you. When you become Alpha, what do you plan on doing?"
"I want to run the pack just like my brother will. I know he'll do a good job of it and Santana being his Luna doubles. She's a tough chick." he nodded and then returned to watching porn on my computer. I threw a pillow in the back of his head, "Don't put those damn things on my computer." I said. He started to laugh, "I found this in your folders." he chuckled as I threw more pillows at him.
After our parents arrived and my father finally past the Alpha position to my brother, more celebrating was taken place and everyone was once again drunk but this time I didn't join. I took a run in my wolf form to a cliff just a ways off from the town. The night air was just perfect and the full moon was out. I let my wolf take off off of the cliff and landing below. I usually didn't bring clothes but I did this time and I transformed back into my human side then threw my clothes on. I sat near a small river that the full moon glistened off of. It was quiet but in the distance, the rattling of the noise back in the town was still able to be heard.
"No drinking for you tonight?" Dantes voice came and I turned to be facing his wolf. The biggest of our pack, a pure white wolf. His blue eyes looked at me as he laid next to me.
"Not tongiht. Thought I'd lay off the alcohol for a bit. What are you doing here?"
"Got a bit nosiy for my wolf. Santana went out to find her sister. Maria is rebeling. I wonder why?" he said, his wolf staring at me. I gave a weak smile and he nudged me with his snout. I pushed him away, "How does it feel to finally be an Alpha to our pack?" He went quiet and sighed, "The best feeling, besides knowing my Luna is Santana. She's my everything." he said and I laughed. He glared at me playfully and I tried to cover the laugh but he finally spoke again, "I don't know what I'd do if I lost her." Even though we were communicating telepathically I could feel every feeling he was saying. He was more in love with her then he was of being an Alpha. Even seeing them together was as if they could never seperate. I don;t know how he was here now without her. He then nudged me again,
"When you find your mate, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. You would do anything for her. Or him." he said laughing. I hit his paw and he howled loud as I now tried to take on his wolf.
[Present]
I came to NYU and his scent was stronger in the area. The building was dark and where I stood was in front of the building I followed Eryn to. I walked up the steps and in the shadow was Andrus in his human form. He was wearing an overcoat and he smiled at me,
"Long time friend." he said and I glared at him, "I'm no friend of yours. I'm going to kill you and any other rogue in this area that had anything to do with Caine's death." I said, now taking a step towards him but he didn't seem to care that I was coming after him. Before I could get close to him, out from above, two wolves dropped down and my eyes widen at one of the wolves; a pure white wolf with blue eyes. I took a step back because of it's aura, it was an Alpha. From the way he smelt, I knew the smell. The smell belonged to Dante. The white wolf took a step forwards as the light blond wolf stayed back next to Andrus. I didn't back up as the wolf slowly made it's way to me. I'd gone still and then his voice spoke in my thoughts,
"You've grown!" Dante said and I felt the sweat trail down the side of my face. I didn't say anything and he stopped just a few ways from me. How was he communicating with me? He must have read my thoughts as he answered,
"Even though I am not part of your pack, we are still blood brothers." I now glared at him.
"Your strong." I still didn't answer him because I felt as if I was staring at a ghost.
"It's better if you don't speak. But I'm here to warn you; I will kill everyone you've ever loved or come to love. Caine was an example and if it wasn't for that other wolf who involved himself, your mate would of been killed." he mentioned my mate and I was already furious as I took a step towards him but in a blink of an eye, he was at my throat, his paw against my chest and his body over me. He just stared down at me and I could feel how strong he was. Too strong for me to take in Human form. Why didn't I transform? He didn't press hard but he was still hurting my chest.
"I'm not going to kill you, your my little brother but I will kill your mate. You know why? Because I know I can. I will kill her infront of you and I will enjoy torturning your buddies. The pack back home will be wiped out. Why am I telling you? Because I know there is nothing you can do to stop me. I wont do it today nor tomorrow but I will destroy everything you ever loved or come to love. I've been wanting to see you little brother. But now I must depart and when we see eachother again, it'll be bad for you." after that said I watched as he slowly got off and in seconds he was gone, with Andrus and the other wolf over the building after him. I didn't get a chance to even move as I stayed still on the ground. Even though I was so angry and I wanted to kill him, I couldn't. Fuck! I sat up and looked around then sniffing the air for their scent. They were gone. Still I couldn't believe he was here. It had to be revenge. Now that I look back, I knew I should have killed him back in the woods after the incident.
