CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN

Maria's crying had the house quiet because in the middle of the living room was Caines body and it was covered with sheets. I've cried until I couldn't cry no more. I was covered in blood and it smeared my arms. Drayden, Troy, Greg and Kenny all surrounded his body, quiet and staring as if it was a dream. I wish this was a dream. A nightmare. Brody sat next to me, his arm not leaving around my shoulder. He asked if I needed to take a shower but I didn't answer, I didn't want to say anything. I didn't want to think anything. This was the worst night of my life and losing someone so dear to me didn't help. Maria sniffled the tears and she started to mumble something under her breath and for a quick second she looked my way with a glare. She quickly looked away when she seen I was staring at her. I watched as her hands clenched into fists. The atmosphere was gloomy and she wasn't making it better. I stood up and started for the door but Brody quickly grabbed me by the arm,

                   "Eryn-"

"Let Go!" I said and Brody looked at me as fear crossed his eyes and he did as I asked. When my arm was released I walked out to the porch. I sat on the rocking chair and asked myself why my sorceress didn't show? Why didn't I know how to summon it or even try and stop what was happening? Why was it Caine and not me? He was so young. The moments with Caine then started to flash through my head. I shook my head to get the memories out. Now was not the time to think about the good times with him. Thinking about him period was making me more angry then sad. I looked out towards Draydens Mustang, other then his mustang, our front yard was empty. My car was left out a few miles towards the bar to burn out. After I seen Connor a piece of me blamed him for Caine's death. Why didn't he come with me? Did he just want to stay with Maria? Why was Maria even here? I hadn't noticed my finger nails digging into the rocking chairs wood until a small piece of it dug back into my nail and I flinched at the pain. Damnit.

I pulled the wood out and sucked the blood that dripped out and then my mind wondered back to Connor. He'd been gone for a good three hours since he went out after that wolf. Who was the other wolf that saved me from that Andrus guy? For a moment, the Andrus and the blond women looked related. Maybe it was the hair color and blue eyes they both shared that made it seem that way. Wait . . . Dante. Was that Connor's brother? Was that why the resemblence was so familiar? I ran back into the house and stood in the door way of the living room,

"What's Connor's brothers name?" I blurted out and they all looked at me but Maria was the one to paste a glare onto her face,

"Who are you to ask about Connor's brother?" Her hands where still clenched into fists when she asked me that. Drayden looked at Maria and she relaxed a bit. He then looked at me,

"How do you know about Connor's brother?" he asked me and I went red forgetting it was suppose to be a secret that Caine told me. I needed to stop thinking about Caine as I looked away from their stares,

"Caine told me about him. But I just can't remember his name and I-" I was going to finish but Maria interrupted,

"You have some nerve bringing that up. You know nothing of Connor and here you come in his life bringing up his past. Who the hell do you think you are?" She hadn't let the glare falter and obviously the subject was touchy on her side. I looked at her now, matching her glare,

"You think I asked for this? It wasn't me wanting in on this, I was dragged into this and as for you being here, what the fuck ARE you doing here? If it's because your following Connor like a lost puppy dog it's really pathetic." The words stung her and she growled,

"Why you little bitch. Caine's death is your fault. If you wouldn't have left the bar like a jealous fien then he would still be alive."

"DAMNIT MARIA, I SAID SHUT IT!" Drayden yelled and Maria looked at Drayden as she lowered her head and he then looked at me, "Why do you want to know about his brother?" his question seemed odd, as if he was feeling the same way Maria was. I cleared my throat,

"Because there were three of them at the site when the tragedy happened. A woman and two men. Andrus, Angel and Dante. Dante just resembled Connor to a T. Dante was the one who made the car stop." I then noticed Kenny and Greg look at eachother as Drayden now glared at me,

"Dante's dead." he said. The subject was touchy for sure. When Caine was telling me about the incident, he didn't go into details about it only that Connor had to kill his own brother. But Caine looked at them as if he knew them, before he was killed.

"What other Dante could-" Maria cut me off again,

"You don't know anything. Your trying to say Dante killed Caine?"

"That's exactly what she's trying to say. And she's right." Connor's weary voice came from in the back of me as Maria and the rest of the guys stared wide eyed. I turned around and he was in clothes but he looked worst then any of us. His eyes passed mine and looked down to the white sheets that covered Caine. He walked slowly past me and then knelt down to Caine's body, picked the torso part of the body into his arms and hugged it,

"I'm so sorry little brother. I'm so sorry." I could hear the small wimpering from him and the scene broke my heart. Connor rocked the body with his and kept saying sorry. The pack watched in silence. The tension in the room had simmered and for what seemed like an hour was just ten minutes of Connor's small cries and apology for the death of Caine. He gently set his head back down onto the floor and stood up, looked over to Maria and then to Drayden,

"I've got alot to talk to you guys about and after, we head back to Pennsalvania tomorrow." he then turned around to me, "You'll be coming back with us." I scrunched my brows together,

                         "I don't want to-"

"I'm not asking you, I'm telling you."

"If she doesn't want to go then she isn't going." Brody now stood up and Connor was at his neck, holding him against the wall as Brody try to pry his hands off of his neck,

"I had enough of your mouth. Like I said before, I don't need your permission and if you get in the way of this I won't hesistate to kill you." I ran over to Connor, "Let him go." Connor didn't let up and I hit him a few times on the back as I watched Brody's face start to turn whiter then it was.

"I'll go with you alright, just let him go." I said and Connor finally let up as Brody coughed to catch air. I knelt down to him, "Are you okay?" Brody nodded and Connor looked down at us,

"Be ready before the sun hits. Were leaving after our meeting." he wasn't kidding and the way he stared down at Brody was more of a dare, as if letting him know to try and step over his boundaries. This wasn't Connor's human side at all, it was his wolf side. He walked away from us and to the guys, who didn't dare move.

"This night, everything I say will be nothing but the truth and I know you'll probably hate me for it but I will still be your Alpha. There are bigger matters then what I tell you." He had the guys and Maria all sit down as Brody and I listened from where we sat. From the way he was acting, something had happened before me and when he went after Andrus.

{Connor's POV}

This wasn't a game being played anymore. Dante was back for revenge and in the pit of my stomach, I felt I was at fault for it. I felt this was all because of me. Caine's Death. My pack now in danger and Eryn's life being in Danger. I had to tell them what happened four-years-ago.

[Flash Back]

An uproar about Andrus going rogue had the town fearing others going rogue. Dante was even surprised at the move of Andrus. They were almost like brothers but Andrus did it because his little sister Angel was kicked out of the pack for killing an innocent human. Dante didn't go after him because Santana told him not to. Maria, Drayden, Greg, Troy and I all were silent as Dante spoke to his in the middle of the town we all resided in. Our parents were in the front of the crowd as they smiled at me.

"I know your all scared of others going rogue and what happend with Angel was not expected but we must move on as a pack. If we are even looked at as weak other packs will take over. We cannot risk that." he spoke. Santana was next to him, his right hand. She was just as strong as Dante and I gave props to my brother for being a strong Alpha for almost two years of being in the seat as an Alpha. Andrus went rogue a few months after his sister was kicked out. Dante had to make the decision or kill her. Andrus was a strong Beta and everyone knew that. I still couldn't believe he was gone.

After the meeting, everyone seemed to feel a bit better but Dante gave really good speeches when it came to the safety of our pack. Some of the people even shook his hand or hugged him. We made our way to our parents as my mother hugged us both,

"You did very good hunny." she said to Dante and Santana gave an extra squeeze to his arm. Our father walked up beside me, "Your brother will do good in this pack. Make sure you watch his back." I nodded and we all decided to have dinner that night at my parents. Dante went over the plans for the pack and then made plans to visit other packs. He was an organized type and everything had to be done precisley. Maria had gone back to her pack to go to college there while I had a full ride at Penn state. We were friends still but we had our own lives.

"Mrs. James that was the best meal I've ever tasted." Drayden said, patting his belly. My parents sat at each end of the table. Dante, Sanatana, Drayden and Greg sat at one side of the table while me, Troy, Kenny and Caine sat at the other side of the table. Dante then stood up and looked around the table,

"Since we're all gathered here for the moment. Santana and I have an annoucement." he said and we all had our attention on him as he now looked at me, "Brother, your going to be an uncle and you two. . ." he pointed to our parents, "Will be grandparents. Santana is pregnent." he finished off as we all congradualted them and my mother walked over to Santana, hugging her and crying with joy. The guys all congradulated Dante and the night drug on to beers.

For the next two months our pack decided to move on from the incidents from months back and move forward. Santana and Dante were doing a pretty good job keeping everyone safe and rogues weren't really  around area since Andrus went rogue. The summer off of school was what us guys needed. Fall semester seemed a distance away as I was in charge of the town for the week since Dante was in the United Kindom trying to make another treaty with a pack there. Santana was at her place with Maria, who was taking care of her while Dante was gone. I checked up on them once in a while but I kept my business to the town since I had to learn to become alpha in the near future.

My father and I had descided to go fishing for the day since it was a quiet day. We've both been on the river side for almost two hours and still no bite. My father hadn't spoken for while, he was too concentrated on trying to catch a fish. I cleared my throat as I spoke,

"Pretty nice day." I started and he looked my way, his blue eyes now boring into me. With the small wrinkles in his face he still looked well for his age.

"Yeah!" he answered and then went back to his pole. My father was the type to like the quiet and just enjoy the nature around him. He took random days to just run the woods and not be back until the next day. I picked that habit up from him. Dante was more like our mother, outgoing and organized. I sighed this time as I gave a little tug to my pole,

"Damn fishes ain't biting today." my father looked my way and reached out towards my pole, tapped it a few times and went back to his,

"Nope they aren't." he replied and I gave a side glance to him. He was staring at me for a moment and then back at his pole. For the rest of the time it was quiet. When we packed our things, I told him I'd meet him back at his house I had to check on Santana and Maria. He nodded and I took off towards Santana's place.

I knocked on the door and Maria answered. She was covered in Dough so I assumed she was cooking.

"How's Santana?" I asked and Maria offered me to come inside. As I walked in she answered,

"Doing great. She's just setting up for dinner. How was the fishing date with your dad?"

"Quiet." I said as I walked into the kitchen and seen Santana stiring what smelt like curry chicken. She turned around towards me and smiled,

"Just in time for dinner. How was the fishing?" she asked as she sipped the soup to taste test it.

"Quiet. It smells really good." I said sitting at the table just in the dinning room of the kitchen. Maria continued to roll dough on the island set up in the kitchen as Santana did one final stir and turned the stove down as she joined me at the table. She didn't look pregnant but she was only two months into her semester. She crossed her arms across her chest as she raised an eyebrow,

"How is school? I don't really talk to you much and Dante is always busy with Alpha business."

"School is good and Dante is always busy. He should be back tonight right?"

                  "Yeah. You staying for dinner?"

"Yes ma'am!" she smiled at me. The whole night we talked about things that weren't really relievant and Maria joined in on the conversation, throwing in how she was doing in school. The night was quiet for most of it and when we all finished we made our way into the living room. We watched TV for the most part and both Maria and Santana took off upstairs to sleep. I stayed downstairs and crashed on the couch.

Just the smallest sound of a scream made me pop up and the TV was still on. Family Guy was on and I looked around, sniffing for anyone in the house. No scent was smelt. I rubbed the sleep out of my eyes and checked the clock of the living room; 11:26 p.m. I called out for Maria and Santana but no answer. I walked up stairs and opened up all the rooms and not finding anyone in them. What the hell was that scream? Was I dreaming. I walked back down stairs and checked the last room and no one was in it. I then walked towards the kitchen but stopped when I seen the front door to the house open. The strong smell of Maria was caught and I walked towards the door, hearing the wind blowing pretty hard. I stepped out and looked into the night, I didn't see anything as I called out for Maria and Santana again. No answer. Their smell started to get stronger as I took a step closer to towards the woods surrounding the house. Again I called their name and still no reply. Then I heard a noise towards the woods as I listened and then the strong smell of a rogue.

In seconds, I ran towards the smell and then I realized another smell in the same directing; Maria's smell. The rogue smell was gone in minutes as I came to an opening out of the woods near a small lake and at the end of the lake layed Maria in her dark gray wolf form. I ran over to her and shook her, hoping to wake her but I could tell she was unconscious. What the hell was she doing out here? Then the rogue smell came again as I turned around to be facing a wolf that was a light brown and their light brown eyes stared at me. In seconds, I transformed as the wolf now growled and ran at me. I was already at the rogues neck before it could tackle me down. It was weak but the smell of blood was now smelt on him. I fought it for a moment until I pinned it down and growled into it's face but the way the wolf looked at me was scared. Fear had stricken it and in moments, I was pulled off by another wolf. When I turned to face the wolf I was taken back to see it was Dante's white wolf.

"What the hell Dante! What's going on? Where's Santana?" I asked.

"The parents house. The rogue your fighting is her father." he said and I looked over to the rogue who was getting up now as I looked back at Dante, "Her father?" He nodded and I looked over to Maria who was still unconcious, "What's going over there? Why is she like that?"

"He didn't recognize her and attacked. I came just in time to stop him and luckily for Santana, she was able to communicate with him. He stopped when he recognized the voice." I walked over to Maria, nudging her and she slowly started to wake. I then looked over to Dante, who was helping the rogue up. Maria finally started to get up and when she finally came to her senses she looked over to seeing Dante and the Rogue as she growled but I help my paw out to stop her as she looked up at me. I shook my head and she gave me a confused stare as Dante walked over to us.

"Lets head back to my place. I'll explain everything over there." he said and I nodded. We couldn't communicate with Maria because she wasn't apart of our pack anymore. It was actually after the incident of us waking up in my bed. That was a year and a half ago.

We all turned back into our human form as we all put some clothes back on. Dante communicated with Santana to come back home and let her know that everything was fine. Dante, me and Maria sat in the living room with Maria and Santana's father. Not once had any of them talked about their father but I knew why. He went rogue when Maria was 8 so Maria didn't really know her father. Their mother wasn't his true mate because his true mate was killed in a hunt and settled with their mother. He couldn't handle the loss of his mate and then went rogue because of it. They never talked about it or him. He's been since then. Maria glared at the older man. His salt and pepper hair was uncombed and he had to wear Dante's clothes even though they were loose on him. The man looked at Maria and gave a weary smile to her. She rolled her eyes. Dante looked at me, "Santana should be in in a bit. Maybe you should head home." he said and I was going to object to it, not really wanting to leave them alone with a rogue in the house but he gave me a reassuring smile as I just nodded and took off home.

I kept checking in with them, wondering what was going on but Dante just let me know that they were tieing up ties between eachother and the father was to stay with us for a few weeks until he's back on his feet. For the next two weeks, everything was swell, nothing was going wrong. Their father, George, wasn't any problem and was actually getting along with the towns people and our pack. Dante and Santana were out of the town taking care of things while Maria left the town, not wanting anything to do with her father at the moment. I stayed in the town to watch over it and hang with my parents for a bit. Before I left their home I decided to walk back to Dantes place to check up on George.

I knocked on the door and waited. He didn't answer and I yelled,

"Hey George, it's me Connor. You doing okay?" I asked and I heard a loud crash in the house and in seconds I bursted through the door and was shocked to see that the house was in total chaos as if a tornado had run through it.

"George!" I screamed, now trying to sniff him out and then another crash like glass and I ran up stairs just catching his wolf dropping out of the window and running towards the town. Shit! I transformed into my wolf and ran after him. He was already far uphead of me and when I got into the town, everything was quiet. Too quiet. Then a howl as I looked towards the sound; it was coming from where my parents lived. In minutes, I was running towards my parents place now smelling the strong scent of George. My parents place was secluded from the town, that's how my father wanted it. It was nestled on the outskirts of the town. Why would he head straight to my parents place.

I bursted through the woods that came into view of my parents three story home and the lights were on. That's when the strong smell of blood hit me harder then I've ever come close to. In seconds, I was through the front door and the blood was too strong for me to stomach. I followed the smell all the way to the kitchen where I found my mother's body lifeless on the floor, her neck ripped open. I went still and slowly walked to her, nudging her but I knew better, she was dead. Then the smell of George caught my senses. I turned around to be now staring at George, who was covered in blood, my mothers blood, from head to toe. He growled at me and as I took a step towards him to attack my father was already at his throat. I stopped but regretted it as George grabbed my father by the fur and threw him off and in seconds I watched George's giant fist penetrate through my fathers  chest. I howled as I flew foward and knocked George out of the way. I grabbed my father before he fell to his knees and his body started to tranform to his human form.

"NO . . . NO!" I communicated and I watched his eyes slowly start to shut.

"Please stay up! Don't dad . . ." The blood was strong and I could tell he wasn't going to pull through. He reached up to me, his hand now on the top of my head, "Take care of your brother." he said as he coughed out blood and his hand dropped down, his mouth hung open and he was gone. I gently laid him down and faced towards George. who was just getting up and I grabbed him by the throat and threw him across the kitchen as he crashed into the sink and I ran at him and had my claws shown, ready to rip into him but just as I came close to him I was pulled backwards by another wolf, Santana, and thrown against the wall. I slid down it and seen Santana helping her father up.

"What the fuck are you doing?" I asked and she looked over at me, "I'm sorry but you can't kill him. He's going through-"

"The fuck I can't. He just killed my parents." I said, getting up and running at George, She stood in my way but I didn't care that she was the luna to our pack. I was stronger then her and if she stood in my way, I was going to move her. She was surprised when I knocked her out of the way and I grabbed George by the neck and getting angry that my parents blood was all over him but again I was pulled away and Santana knocked me back,

"I don't want to hurt you Connor but this is my father. He's-" I cut her off when I jumped at her, threw her away from George, who jumped back from us and looked towards Santana, who was unconscnious now. I then turned towards George and growled, walking towards him and I got my claws ready again and shot it towards him but what happened next made me go wide eyed. In front of me stood Santana, my claws torn into her chest, where I could feel her heart beating. She started to shift back to human form and then I quickly pulled my hand out of her chest.

"Santana! Why-" I started and she slid down as I looked to where George was and when he seen what happened, he gave me one last glance and took off. I was now shaking and Santana looked up at me,

"I-I." she started to say. That's when Dante pulled me off of her and threw me against the wall,

"What are you doing?" he said and then he looked down at Santana as he sunk to his knees at her side. He was still in human form. I didn't dare transform back, I didn't know what to tell him. This was one memory I didn't want to know but I knew the ending of this was not going to be a good one.

[Present]

After that night Dante blamed me for her death and our parents death. Even when I told him what had happened, he smelt that blood on me. The next two months were difficult between us. He didn't really talk to me and him as an Alpha wasn't going well. The next month he went Rogue and then I was appointed Alpha. Four months later, he returned and tried to kill me. As an Alpha, I was too strong for him and plus, he wasn't in the right state of mind. I ran him out of the town and there he stood in his wolf form, glaring at me in the woods just a few ways from the town. He didn't even talk to me but I spoke to him,

"Dante, I don't want to kill you but if I have to I will." still nothing from him. I held out my paw to him, "Come back and let's figure this out." Dante looked down at my paw and growled I slowly pulled my paw back and clenched them into fists, "Alright then. Leave and don't ever come back. I don't want to hear about you." I said and turned and walked away. I didn't want to kill him. He was my brother. Telling them about the incident was horrible and hiding everything from them was hard. They all stared at me and I looked over at Eryn, who had a blank stare in her eyes. It was silent. It was a different feel to the air. Something I've never felt before. I knew one thing, the trust was lost in my pack and they weren't going to trust me from this day on.
