Chapter 1
Shouting. Is that all they ever do? Can't they ever be quiet? How I wish they would. But my sisters are cheerleaders after all. And they never stop, it drives me crazy. They drive me crazy. Everyone drives me crazy. And worst of all they make me watch. I've watched enough fumbling and tumbling to last a life time. I can recite every cheer they have ever said.
"Hey Ali, want hear another cheer?"
"No." I say without looking up from my book.
"But why?" Sara whines at me.
"Because I'm busy."
"All you're doing is reading a book."
"So?"
"So! Aren't my fantastic cheerleading skills more important?"
"Maybe in your mind."
"Just watch!" She growls at me through gritted teeth. I sigh and look at her over the top of my book of fairytales. Her dirty blonde hair is in a braid down her back, she's in her cheer uniform and has her pom-poms in her hands. Clair walks up behind her with big, round , blue eyes. It should be easy for me to tell them apart by now, buts not. I may have lived with them for fourteen years but I can't tell them apart unless they talk. Sara's voice annoys m more than Clair's for some reason.
"Ugh, fine." I groan as I snap my book shut and try to ignore the desire to strangle her. This is the tenth time in the past two hours that they've asked me. Sara and Clair smile and get into position.
As they begin their cheer I find myself being sucked into that dark place in my mind where I can't help but envy them. Where they are small and cute I am sturdy and scary. Sometimes people fins it hard that we are related. They are blind and blue eyed while I have black hair and green eyes. Their skin is pale and blemish free and mine is ... Well it's not like theirs. They may be younger tan me by three years but people like them more. Most people don't like Freshmen because they are younger and "at the bottom of the food chain." I'm a Junior and I may be well liked but not as much as them. They even bragged about how they skipped a grade. They always-.
"How was it sis?" They ask at the same time.
"Fine."
"Just fine?" Mumbles Clair.
"Oh no! Last time she said we were great."
"Let's do it again. I promise to be better this time."
"Me too."
Not again. I have to think if a way out. Please brain, think if something!
"Um..."
"Hurry up girls. You don't want to miss the competition." I can't help but smile. Saved by the loud but loveable mother. I raise my book so they can't see me.
"Oh. I guess we gotta go. You sure you don't want to come?" Asks Sara.
"Positive, too many people."
"Buzz kill."
"Brats."
"Girls!" Mom shouts.
"Bye Ali " They say together before taking off down the hall. Man I love them but they make me want to pull my hair out sometimes.
