VII

~When the devil resides in your mind. When he is able to twist your memories and change who you are. That is when you will learn just how strong you really are~

Peter Pan was old.

He had watched humanity rise and fall throughout the centuries. He had noted their failures and sucsesses, and watched as history always inevitably repeated itself. Perhaps this was why he was so cunning. He learned long ago that knowledge was power, and that you could control everything with it. Thus why he had made it a habit to know everything about his lost ones.

He always knew what they were doing.  Who they were with.
How they were feeling.
His magic provided him with an invisible teather, linking them to him. Yet, sometimes, things would slip through the cracks.

Pan was sitting with Felix in their camp when he felt it. Both boys had been sitting in silence sharpening weapons. Suddenly Pan rose from his spot on the log. His face twisted sourly as he momentarily felt the spell faulter. Felix looked up curiosly at his leader.

"What is it Pan?" He drawled, setting the weapon he was cleaning to the side.

"Her memories. They broke through." Pan's voice was steady, he was careful to hide his anger.

"What? She broke it? What now?" Felix was genuinely confused, how had Brooklyn broken the curse?

"No, it's not broken. Just fractured. A memory slipped free, and I'm afraid it won't be the only one." Pan snarled.

With a sigh, Pan closed his eyes. He took in a deep breath and searched for Brooklyn in his mind.  He quickly found her, and the door that her memories had slipped from. His hand reached out to glide over the markings carved into the wood. He noticed the fracture in a heartbeat. It stood out along the smooth edge of the door, and a small light could be seen on the other side.

Pan growled in annoyance and placed his hand against the door. His lips twisted into a wicked smirk.

"Don't try and fight me. You won't win." Pan whispered. A whimper came from behind the door. "We're stronger than you think." A voice answered. Pan chuckled. "Together maybe. But you forget, she isn't you, not anymore. Brooklyn is nothing more than a shy little schoolgirl without you. She can't break my curse." Pan snarled and slammed his fist against the door.

The voice behind the door whimpered.

"She will break it."

Pan growled and grabbed the door handle and pushed it open. His eyes fell to the floor, darkening when he saw her. Sat on the floor was Brooklyn, except this version was different. This Brooklyn was trapped in the real one's mind, Pan's curse having trapped in her a prison. This Brooklyn was everything that the real one couldn't remember.

Pan knelt down to the girl, who was too weak to stand. He wrapped his icy fingers around her chin, forcing her to look at him. "My dear lost girl, you truly are stupid if you think she can win this game. She is nothing without you."

"Never." She snarled. Pan laughed and stood to his feet, slamming the door shut as he did so.

Pan quickly pulled himself out of Brooklyn's mind. He turned to Felix, who was eagerly waiting to know what was going on. "We don't have to do anything Felix." Pan's voice was calm and he took his place on the log once more. "She won't break the curse. There is nothing to worry about." Felix let out a sigh of relief and sat down next to his leader. The pair sat in silence, both of them lost deep in thought. After what seemed like hours, Pan stood.

"I must leave again Felix. I shall return in a few days." Pan's voice was stern. Felix nodded his head gently, acting as unphased as possible. With a flick of his wrist Pan was gone, leaving Felix alone with his thoughts. It was then that Felix realised. He had caused Brooklyn to remember. He had caused something to break free in her mind. He was the key to ending this curse. Felix bit his lip, he was going to have to visit Brooklyn again. He needed her to remember, they all did. She was the only one who could stop Pan and bring an end to the madness. Felix left the log and headed to his tent, he didn't sleep one bit that night. Instead he stayed awake, planning what he was going to do to get Brooklyn to remember everything. He had to help her break it. He just had to.

Without her, they were all doomed.

Ok so this chapter is very short compared to my usual chapters, but i just felt this was how it needed to end, instead of dragging on. Thoughts? How do you think Felix is going to get Brooklyn to remember? Will she remember? Or will Pan catch them? Let me know what you think 😊
