I
"Like autumn you were beautiful to see, turning your sufferings into beautiful shades, staying as graceful as one could be" Noorahar
They say silence is golden. That if you listen hard enough you'll hear the wind whispering to her lover.
Lies. Sent straight from hell itself.
Silence is dangerous. It's a time when rouge thoughts can creep out from the back of the mind, and make their way into the subconscious.
There was something about the stillness, about how at ease her body was, that made Brooklyn feel uncomfortable. Silence frightened her. She couldn't explain it, but the thought of her body being still and her mind running wild frightened her. Perhaps she was afraid of what she would find, or maybe she was more afraid of what she would not.
Her fingers danced across the ivory keys of the piano. Gently she pushed them and a beautiful sound echoed around the auditorium. The sweet sounds brought her comfort, with music, it was never silent, and the wild thoughts could never make their way into her mind. Soon enough she joined in with the sweet sounds of the piano, gently singing as her fingers ran across the keys. As time passed she got louder, her voice bouncing off the walls, and she became enchanted by the sounds. Music was her escape, her way to forget about her troubles. In some ways, music was her silence, and it was golden. But inevitably there would always be someone that wanted to destroy the light that shone through the darkness.
"Oi!" A male voice shouted at Brooklyn. Austin. Reluctantly she turned to face him.
"Oh, it's you." He sneered with distaste. A few of his friends followed behind him. "Coach said we could practice here, so get out." He sneered at her. Brooklyn rolled her eyes.
"I'm sure my piano playing wouldn't distract you that much. I mean you are supposed to be the star player right?" She said with a smirk, and a few of the other boys chuckled. Austin however, found the comment anything but funny.
"Excuse me?!" He snapped as he marched closer to her, a silence filled the room.
"You heard me" she muttered as he reached the piano. Before she could react, he reach out his hand and wrapped it in her hair, and threw her to the ground. Brooklyn let out a desperate cry as Austin kicked her ribs.
"Stop it! Please!" She cried as the group of boys circled her, they towered over her and she curled herself into a ball.
Austin laughed and bent down to grab her wrist. He held it with a firm grip and yanked her to her feet. She stood whimpering and slightly hunched over. He smirked at her sad figure, he enjoyed having this power. He leant over so his lips were dangerously close to her ear.
"No one. I repeat, no one. Gets away with speaking to me like that." His voice was low and it sent shivers down her spine. He pulled away, and she heard some of the other boys murmuring something. And before she knew it, Austin's fist flew towards her face and hit her square in the eye. She was sent flying backwards, tumbling towards the ground. When her back met the cold, hard floor she began to cry, her left eye already bruising.
The boys snicked. "C'mon boys, I think we'll skip practise today." Austin commanded and just like that, all the boys followed.
The room was silent, save for Brooklyn's soft whimpers. Slowly she sat up, the blood rushed from her head and she wobbled slightly. She reached up to touch her eye gently and winced. There was already a bruise, and it was swelling. A few small tears ran down her cheeks and she was surrounded by silence. The auditorium doors swung open and her heart skipped a beat, afraid Austin had come back for round two. However it wasn't Austin, it was the other boys from the football team, lead by Noah, Austin's brother.
Brooklyn quickly wiped away her tears as the other boys approached her. "Brooklyn?" Noah called out to her and she bit her lip. "Shit." He sighed as he saw her eye. The other boys too were full of concern. Noah was nothing like Austin. The football team had two types of players, the ones on Austins side, and the ones on Noahs.
"Im fine" she mumbled as he held out his hand and helped her up. "What happen?" He asked.
"Nothing."
"Was is Austin?" He asked lowly.
Brooklyn remained silent.
"Was it Austin?!" He shouted and Brooklyn nodded.
Noah growled. "Lucas, take Brooklyn to the nurse. I'll deal with Austin." He snapped and turned to leave the auditorium. Lucas held out his hand for Brooklyn, she shook her head at him. "No." She called to Noah. "I don't need you to fight my battles." She snapped and picked up her bag.
"He's my brother. I'll deal with it." Noah repeated.
"I said no. Just leave it be." She walked past Noah, her eyes focused on the floor.
"Brooklyn..." He called, but she simply ignored him and walked out of the double doors.
...............................................
"Why do you have to be such a dick?!" Noah shouted towards his brother, who was casually leaning againt the lockers.
Austin rolled his eyes. "Here we go again." He muttered under his breath. "It just comes naturally." He replied with a smirk and Noah shoved him against the lockers.
"Don't touch her again." By this point, other students had turned their attention to the brothers.
Austin raised a brow. "Whats the matter Noah? Got a crush on her?" He mocked and pushed Noah off him.
"You could do so much better little brother" Before Austin could get another word out, Noah tackled him to the ground. A circle of students surrounded them, chanting and cheering them on. The two boys punched one another, anger fueling their fire.
Of course they were both use to fighting. They were lost boys after all.
Once.
A small figure pushed through the crowd. "Stop it!" Brooklyn shouted and the two boys turned their heads towards her. They both got to their feet, Austin smirked. "Aw look Noah, your girlfriend has come to save you. Pathetic."
"Im not saving anyone." Brooklyn snapped. Austin pouted. "You're right. You can't even save yourself." He mocked and Brooklyn bit her lip. She felt all eyes on her, they burned into her mind. And then there was silence. No one dared to speak, and the wild thoughts floated into Brooklyn's mind.
It soon became hard to breathe, she needed to escape.
"Brooklyn-"
Before Noah could say anymore, she stormed out of the halls, away from the deadly brothers and away from her dark thoughts.
I'm soooooooooo sorry it took me this long to update. I've been so busy, but I hope you like it.
