Chapter 20
Author's notes: I suggest you grab some tissues for this one. Or, if you have a messed up mind where you love sadness and madness, go grab some popcorn or a snack. Sniffle. Sniffle. Sigh.
Rachel's P.O.V
We rushed to my house.
I was so scared I could hardly take one breath.
When we got there, there were police cars everywhere. There was a fire truck, and two ambulances, too.
This could not be good.
I jumped out of the car, not even bothering to wait until the car had stopped.
"Rachel!" Adam called as my hands collided with the black pavement, the top layer of skin being peeled off. My hands were red with blood. But I didn't care. All I cared about was making sure my mom was okay.
I ran and ran until I reached my front porch. It had that crime scene tape all over it.
"Miss, I'm going to have to ask you to step back," a police officer ordered.
"But, it's my mom in there! This is my house!" I protested.
"I'm sorry, you can't go in there."
Then, I saw my worst nightmare.
Ricky.
He was up in the window, holding a gun to my mom's head.
"Give me the girl, and no one gets hurt," he demanded.
This is unbelievable.
My mouth dropped down as Adam rushed to my side.
I have to go, I have to do what Ricky says.
I have to do this for my mom.
"Rachel, whatever you're thinking, don't. That guy's dangerous, you cant go in there!" Adam exclaimed.
"But Adam, you don't understand. I have to. That's my mom we're talking about in there." I insisted.
"Rachel, please. I couldn't stand it if something happened to you, please." He pleaded.
I bit my lip. Is it possible? Could he feel THAT as way towards me?
But, I can't stay. I have to go. I have to help my mom.
I darted towards the back door, leaving behind the screaming policemen and Adam.
"Rachel! Don't!" I heard, from Adam.
"Miss, you can't go in there! It's too dangerous!" I heard countless police officers yell at my back.'
But it was too late for that. I was already in.
I turned and stood face to face with Ricky, who was still holding my mom. She was unconscious.
"Mom!" I exclaimed.
"Now, see? That wasn't so hard, now was it?" he asked me.
My happiness bubble popped as soon as he spoke up.
My smile turned into a cold frown, followed with a glare, eyes piercing.
"Just let her go," I gritted my teeth.
"Now, I can't do that. If I do, you'll run. I know you will." He smiled.
"No, I won't! I promise!" I pleaded.
"I'd like to believe you, but after everything that's occurred, I find that quite hard to do."
"But, I swear, I'll do whatever you ask, if you just let her go!" I tried.
"No, sorry. I told you before, if you had just let me do things the easy way, we wouldn't be in this predicament. Now, you leave me no choice." He smiled. It was a cold smile.
He got a pack of matches out of his back pocket. He ripped one out, and lit it up.
It was only then I noticed the gasoline jugs, and how it was wet all over.
"What are you doing?" I asked uneasily, already knowing the answer, but not wanting to believe it was true.
He smiled again, before throwing it onto the gasoline covered, hardwood floor.
I gasped, eyes welling up with tears.
He dropped my mom, right on where he started the fire. He just stood there, letting the flames envelop my mom's body.
"MOM!!" I screamed.
"NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO!" I cried.
"MOOOOOOOOOOOM!" I wailed.
Ricky ignored my calls, and picked me up, throwing me over his shoulder.
"No! Mom! Mom! Mom!" I yelled.
"Shh, it's okay. She's in a better place now, don't worry," he soothed.
He escaped out of the side door, and by the time all the police realized this, Ricky and I were already out of sight.
I could faintly see the firemen desperately trying to put out the fire.
"Mom," I sobbed quietly.
