Chapter 19

Rachel's P.O.V

"Truth or dare?" she asked.

I pondered this for a moment.

If I said truth, I'd be labeled a wussy, much like Adam and Drew were. And also, I couldn't call them wussies either. Poo.

If I said dare, I would regret it. I know I would.

How bad could it be, though? Eh, I'm gonna wing it.

"Dare," I announced after a long silence.

Kia smirked.

Oh boy.

"I dare you to kiss Adam."

Crap.

"Say what?!"

See? I knew I was gonna regret this!

"You heard me!" Kia smiled. She was enjoying this.

Humph.

I trembled, and I looked at Adam with wide eyes.

He looked pretty nervous, too.

"You going to back out? You've never backed out. You really want to start now?" Kia lured.

"No," I admitted miserably.

"Fine, I 'll do it." I surrendered.

I leaned in, just as Adam started to.

The suspense was killing me.

Our lips were so close together I could almost feel his lips on mine.

I closed my eyes, leaning in, closing off the space that separated us.

Our lips touched, and I finally found that what they say is true.

You really can feel fireworks when you kiss that special someone.

We stayed there, not wanting to move.

In other words, we stayed longer than what was necessary.

That's good, right?

We parted, and I looked, down, embarrassed. I just kissed my best friend. And I liked it.

This is not good.

"Rache?" Adam asked uneasily.

I was remotely close to running out that door, to save myself the embarrassment.

Then my phone rang. I rushed over to pick it up, thankful for a distraction.

"Hello?" I asked breathlessly.

"Hi, this is Officer Kenny, from the Springfield Police Department. We got a call from a neighbor, and I think you need to come over now. There's been an assault at your house. You need to be here in person. I'll see you then." The voice said.

I froze, scared. Assault?

"I have to go," I squeaked, gathering my things.

I ran out the door, and they followed me.

"Rachel, wait! Is this about the kiss?" Adam asked me.

"No, no, I got a call from a police officer. He said there was an assault at my house, I have to go!" I pleaded.

"I'll drive you," Adam insisted, heading to his car. I followed, scared out of my mind.

The only good thing in this is that the kiss was the last thing I had to worry about right now.
