A while back, I'd written a rant on how big-headed 'famous' authors get. Rant #38. But I say that there's always two sides to a story, and now that I can see the other side a bit clearer, I want to try and show it to you as well.

I think there are a few misconceptions and/or assumptions that readers make of popular writers and to be honest sometimes they aren't fair.

I understand why you're pissed off. You didn't get a reply. For a long time.

But have you ever paused to think that maybe, just maybe, there's a reason? I don't know what other authors go by, but I always try to reply to messages, so when I don't, can't you think of any other reason?

No, you can't. You have to paint me as the bad guy.

Thing is guys, I'm not talking about "me" as me, genie_us. By "me", I reckon I'm talking on behalf of a lot of popular writers who get people like that targeting them because they didn't reply and all that shizz.

We aren't on wattpad 24/7. We have school, just like you do. SOME OF US GO TO FUCKING BOARDING SCHOOL IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWERE WITH NO BLOODY WIFI parents y u do dis 2 meh :(

I'm just saying that it is easy to jump to conclusions when popular writers ignore their readers and stuff but sometimes it actually is justifiable.

Another thing that drives me crazy is when you get messages from people who try to guilt-trip you into reading their fucking books.

"Hey, I know you probably won't read it but..."

"I'm sure you've got thousands of requests to read people's books but please please please..."

"No one likes to read my stuff so please just check it out..."

There's a point at which I'll draw the line. To be honest, it's a lot like the way some charities will rub pictures of starving children in your face to try as get donations.

Well, it's not that extreme, but I hope you get what I mean.

I completely hate when people guilt-trip you because goddammit I'm not the bad guy here but you fucking want me to be! I mean saying "I know you won't read my book but..." is so horrible because yea, maybe I haven't time to read it but do you have to put it in a way that makes me seem like a bad person for not doing so?

I do try, I really do try, but it's not that easy. Try getting 100+ messages after a week to read all sorts of books...some people write like 10 pages in one chapter so GAAAHHH

Personally, and here I speak for me, I'm not a bad guy. I'm not arrogant in any way, if anything I'm grateful. I don't value anyone any less than anyone because of anything (if that makes sense). So ya, it does hurt when you don't get a reply, or when you're so blatantly ignored, but like I said, there's always two sides to everything.

Sometimes I can't reply to your messages because I'm busy. Sometimes I can't read your book because I'm tired. And sometimes that's okay, okay? I can't really please everyone because I'm only human *cue song by Brandy* *cue song by Christina Perri*

It doesn't mean I'm snobbish or big-headed and all that shizz. It's like the way Harry Styles can't reply to all your fan mail (if that's an easier analogy for you)

I do always try to reply, though. Book requests...I'm not too good at that, but I'm working on it :3
