43- Twisted memories

I groaned loudly as I flopped onto my bed, feeling pain in each and every muscle from over use. For the past fourteen hours I'd been forced to 'train' under Kathrine's watch with only three short breaks all day, once in the morning, a lunch break and again in the afternoon. Over all it wasn't overly difficult to manage apart from the fact I was running on a few hours sleep and I had very little time to recover after each of the 100 rounds I'd been though, each getting progressively harder and longer.

Wincing slightly, I shuffled under their fluffy duvet, kicking off my shoes as I did. I'm pretty sure I pulled a muscle in my right shoulder, unfortunately for me it was normally my dominant arm but lucky me for being ambidextrous. Pulling the covers over my head I went through the events of today, somehow I'd managed to go the past fourteen hours with only one swear word which I will argue to my death that was Cyrus's fault but I also punched him in the face, again, his fault for trying to sneak up on me while I was eating my lunch (a sandwich and two bottles of water since I was feeling extremely dehydrated by then), I spooked, punched him on instinct and called him a fucktard for scaring me.

In my defence I'm am currently being held against my will by my insane birth parents who have kidnapped me, am running on less then five hours sleep and am currently extremely jumpy with my surroundings.

A sigh passed my lips as the cell door opened but I didn't move, hoping that Kathrine's who's aura was easily recognisable would think I fell asleep and leave me alone. It was close to 9:00 pm and I'd hardly stopped all day so it wasn't unplausible.

"Get up or I'll put the alarm back on Emma."

Sigh deeply I threw back the covers in an over dramatic fashion. "Oh no, not the alarm, please anything but the alarm." I mocked, knowing that it would be impossible to pretend to be asleep with that thing on so I might as well make a mockery out of it.

Kathrine rolled her eyes but said nothing about, instead gave me a sharp look. "Because of your behaviour this morning, we never had a chance to discuss your ground rules."

"Ground rules? Are you kidding?" I raised an eyebrow, sitting up straight since I clearly would not be sleeping anytime soon. "I'm fifteen not five but since you haven't been in my life for the past ten years I guess you wouldn't know that would you." Crossing my arms over my chest, I gave her a sharp glare.

"Yes Emma, you will have ground rules as this place." She waved her hand around the building. "Is mine and while you are here you will obey what rules I have put in place. Just because you are my daughter does not give you special treatment."

"I am not your daughter!" I growled. "You gave up your right to call me that when you walked out on me ten years ago."

Surprisingly, Kathrine ignored my out burst and continued speaking. "As far as I'm concerned this is your room, you can do whatever you wish in here and in here alone. The only exception to this is you will not harm any person that comes in here including any of my grunts, admins, scientists or anyone who works under your father--"

"Not my father." I muttered as she continued.

"Any other rules you may ignore within this cell."

"So I can swear?"

"If you must." Kathrine sounded reluctant but agreed to it all then same.

"You are a fucking asshole and you can go rot in the distortion world where Giratina will torture you for all eternity, without getting to have any of his fucking amazing Barbecued Torchic because you are an asshole and assholes deserve nothing but shit which is what Giratina would do on you all day everyday."

The fact she didn't react told me she expected that. "Are you done?" She sighed.

"Nope but continue, I could go all night." I shrugged.

"Fine." She sighed again, regaining her composure. "You will be woken up at a quarter past six every morning and be ready by seven, failure to do so will result in consequences. I'm trusting you can get yourself ready in that time? You will be collected at exactly seven unless the day requires otherwise. Through the day you will be provided three breaks, one in the morning and afternoon, each will last fifteen minutes as well as a half hour lunch break as it was today. You will be given earlier finishes from today, finishing at eight unless you've given sufficient data to allow an early end but it works the other way as well, provide insufficient data and you will be worked harder. Slacking off or failure to meet the days quota will result in consequences."

I ignored 99% of what Kathrine said, planning on using that to annoy her in some way later. "What's going to happen to Silver and Red while I'm still here?"

"I was getting to that." Kathrine retorted irritably, obviously not appreciating all my interruptions. "They will be taken care of in their own cells and have there basic needs met but if your behaviour permits, you will be allowed to see them after the days tests have been completed."

"Can I see them now?"

"After what happened during your lunch break, no."

"But that was Cyrus's fault!" I pouted.

"The answer is no and if you keep whining, I'll take away your allowance to see them at all." Kathrine raised her eyebrow as she crossed her arms. "I don't have to let you see them at all."

I glared at Team Rifts leader, balling my hands into fists as I forced myself to look away. "It that it? I want to sleep." I growled, feeling waves of anxiety set me on edge.

"You will not be allowed to sleep until you have eaten your dinner and each morning you will be expected to eat your breakfast unlike this morning." She narrowed her eyes at me. "I will not have you complaining that your hungry while you're working through your tests or risk the inability to reach the nutritional needs of a child your age."

"But I don't eat that much." I argued, huffing as I flicked my head away. "Certainly not in a place like this. I get to anxious."

"Well looks like you're going to have to learn Emma, I won't have you harmed directly durning the next few weeks unless it is needed to complete the tests I have set but as I have told you, I have no need for Silver or Red and I will do what is necessary to them to teach you a lesson."

"You said you'd let them go!" I spat, glaring at Kathrine sharply. To be able to get out of here safely, I needed Red and Silver out of here or I'd never be able to escape.

"I will, but their condition is entirely up to you."

"That wasn't part of the deal." I glared, gritting my teeth sharply as my muscles tensed. My shoulder burned but I ignored the pain.

"Wasn't it? I never said that I wouldn't hurt them if it came to teaching you obey the rules I've set in place." Kathrine smiled triumphantly, knowing she had me stuck.

"Fine. Where's my food so I can sleep." I grumbled, wanting the day to end.

"It will be along shortly but until then, enjoy your evening." Kathrine smiled slyly at her wording.

"Can I have a pack of cards, a book, a ball or something to do in here? Otherwise I'm going to loose my mind." I groaned, knowing that I'd be locked in here far longer then I thought. "Or my guitar?"

"We'll see."

"And a piece of chalk so I can keep track of how long it takes me to escape." What they count days in movies and this is a book so same difference.

Kathrine simply raised an eyebrow at me before leaving as I flopped back down on my bed, pulling the duvet over me once more, wincing at the pain in my shoulder. This is going to be hell, don't ask me how I know it, I just do. Blowing my fringe from my face I held my wrist over face, glaring at the think black bracelet clamped tightly in place. It seemed to be more intricate then the one last used on me, more mechanical. I let my arm drop since I know next to nothing about mechanics or science mumbo jumbo.

I know Clair would come looking for me if I didn't make contact with her for more then a fortnight, it was what we agreed on before I left Kalos since she didn't want a repeat of what happened at Unova and it's been far longer then that already.

Feeling an aproching aura, I watched the door as a grunt unlocked and entered the room, a tray held in his hands. Ignoring me, he say it beside me bed and left without a word, pulling the door shut behind him as the automatic lock clicked. A sighed left my lips before I examined the plate before me, Torchic schnitzel, a salad and a small portion of mashed potatoes. A small white ceramic container held gravy aside the plate as well as two bottles, one filled with an Oran and Sitress Berry blend while to other held water.

The meal was oddly fancy for so,etching you'd feed someone being held captive but Kathrine's words of having my nutritional needs met filled my ears in an annoying way, so I at as much of the meal as I was able. As I ate, I wondered if Silver and Red were getting the same treatment as I was and I couldn't help but wonder if they were alright. When I finished, I sat they tray aside and left for the bathroom to get ready for bed. Doing my business, brushing my teeth and deciding to leave showering for the morning after finding clean towels and my first set of clothes waiting in the cupboards. I wonder whose job it was to wash this stuff, the sure got the short end of the stick.

Curling up beneath my duvet, I drifted off to sleep fairly quickly. My dinner tray had been taken while I was in the bathroom, something that felt so,each at off putting but the thought was soon put to rest after I noticed my guitar leaning against the bedside table and a pack of card, a peace of chalk and a small hand ball sitting on top. Moving the smaller items into the draw of the table, I'd settled to sleep, planning on using my guitar tomorrow as it was an easy way to calm my nerves.

The door slamming jolted me awake, immediately making me recoil beneath my covers as I pulled my Teddiursa to my chest. Several minutes of silence passed before I carefully slipped from my duvet, peaking out the door down the darkened hallway with Crescent holding onto my back with her small paws.

"Emma?" Daddy's voice came from down stairs, for one not slurred from the influence of alcohol.

It took me a moment to gather the courage to shuffle to the tops of the stairs, looking down at my father. He stood in the entry way looking up at me with clear grey eyes. "Hey sweetheart." Daddy smiled softly.

Hopeful that tonight would be better then most, I pulled my sleeves down to cover my bandaged arms. Daddy wouldn't remember hurting me, he never did but I liked it when he was in a good moon, he didn't hurt me when he was happy, when he hadn't been drinking beer all night like normal. He was nice and I didn't want to loose that.

"H-hello daddy." I mumbled softly, carefully making my way down the stairs since my ankle was injured. "Did you h-ave a nice day at work?" A few small coughs were used to cover my stutters.

"Nah." He smiled picking me up, not noticing me flinch slightly as he did. I was more used to daddy's touches hurting me then I was the rare moments like these when he was happy to see me. "Sorry I'm so late, have you had dinner yet?"

A grumble from my tummy served as my reply but from not eating all day rather then just skipping dinner.

"How about I make us a late dinner then, hmm?" He smiled, gently patting my dark brown hair.

I yawned as I nodded my head.

"Did I wake you?"

"N-no... I was in bed waiting for you." I fibbed, not wanting to be sent to bed before I got to eat something I didn't have to steal.

"I'll put dinner on and get a beer--"

"Milkshakes!" I burst out, knowing that after one beer my father wouldn't stop. "Can we have milkshakes please?" I pleaded, hanging my head slightly.

Daddy set me lightly on my feet. "Whatever you want sweetheart, go put a movie on and I'll be right with you." He smiled, kissing my forehead before I scrambled away, calling for Crescent who had been watching the scene with caution as I escaped in the opposite direction to my father.

My Normal type friend curled close to my side as I knelt in front of the movie cabinet. ~Are you alright Emma?~ She questioned, nuzzling my leg softly.

"Yeah, daddy hasn't had his beer yet." I answered softly, not wanting my daddy to hear me talking to my Pokémon. "Hopefully he won't at all."

Inserting a copy of Pyroar King into the video player, I remained on that carpet, looking at the kitchen with saddened eyes. Ever since mummy left, daddy had been drinking lots of beer and when he does, he gets mean and I'm often the target. I didn't know why his beer would always put him in a bad mood, but it did. Whenever he was like that, I did my best to behave, do whatever he wanted me to do but I just wasn't good enough. Over the past year, nights like this were extremely rare, with daddy coming home from work like things used to be, the nights where he loved me.

"Do you want a chocolate milkshake Emma?" Daddy called from the kitchen, making me jump.

Rather then yelling back, I scampered to the other room, my father hated when I yelled... Or at least end, he did when he was in a bad mood but it was better not to break the habits that kept me from angering him in any case. I struggled to hide my limp as I entered the kitchen. "I would like strawberry please daddy." I answered upon entry, watching as my father pulled out a bowl of Fossil-Pokémon shaped spaghetti from the microwave and replace it with another bowel.

"Okay Emma." He answered, placing the bowel in my shaking hands. "Are you feeling alright? You seem a bit shaky." Daddy noted, placing the back of his hand against my forehead.

"I'm fine." I smiled as I pulled back. "Just hungry."

"Are you sure? I can call a doctor if you aren't feeling well."

"I'm fine daddy." I repeated, hearing the movie start. Crescent the called me from the other room, urging me to hurry or risk missing the beginning of the film. Thanking my father for the canned dinner, I left the kitchen and sat on the floor beside the little teddy Pokémon.

My father joined me a few minutes later, inviting me to eat aside him on the couch but I rejected the invite, feeling unsafe at the risk of spilling my dinner and angering my daddy on a night like this. Other then a funny look, he didn't say anything about it as he sat the milkshake I front of me and drank one of his own.

The TV suddenly flicked off. I frowned, looking over at my daddy but he was gone. A shudder ran through my body, looking down at my hands, I noticed they were no longer of my six year old self, rather nine years later to my fifteen year old self. Crescent no longer at my side, I jumped to my feet, spiralling around as the lounge room distorted. The air filled with a high buzzing, setting my nerves into a frenzy as a shadow from behind fell upon me.

I spun around, looking up to see the giant form of my father dwarfing me. Yelping I fear, I lurched back, falling from my feet into a never ending pit of darkness.

I bolted upright, hugging myself tightly. Just a nightmare Emma, just a nightmare. Wiping my eyes clear of tears, I escaped to the bathroom. The last thing I wanted was for anyone to see me cry here, especially since I would have been tossing and turning from the nightmare that had just tortured my sleep.

Slamming the cheep wooden door behind me, I leant against the peeling paint, my eyes filling with tears by the distorted memory. I hated it, hated him, hated myself for trying to be what he wanted for so long and never figuring out what it was that made him abused me.

"Arceus damn it!" I shouted, slamming my fist against the nearest wall, collapsing to my knees in a fit of sobs. My head hurt, thumping confusion through my body as icy fingered clutched my heart. "Why can't I make sense of it all!?" My demand fell to empty ears. I was used to my Pokémon being there for me or Silver or Red when I had nightmares, they always knew how to make me feel safe and secure but I was alone.

Looking down at my X-transceiver, I took in the time. 4:14. Only two hours before the alarm would go off... Or wouldn't since I was already awake, I doubted I would sleep again. I shut my eyes, leaning the back of my head against the door as fresh tears escaped down my cheeks.

I stayed there until the sounds of my breakfast being delivered broke the silence, waiting until the grunt left, I went for a shower, taking note of the time since unlike yesterday, I was on a time limit. Within ten minutes I was exiting the bathroom, my hair pulled out of the way in a high Ponyta-tail. Breakfast was a fairly simple bowel of cereal, a small jug held milk, a packet of sugar, a banana and a small bottle of orange juice to accompany it. Adding the banana, milk and sugar to the cereal, I began eating the meal, finished with five minutes to spare.

It surprised me when Kathrine was the one to collect me, without the assistance of a grunt. I guess she figured that with my brother and Red hostage that she would be safe from me since I was more the capable of taking her down myself, even without the use of my powers.

"Why did you hide in the bathroom for two hours this morning?" She asked, looking down at me with steely grey eyes.

"None of your business." I snapped, looking away from the older woman. "Now can we get this over with."

"It is very much my business, everything that happens to you here is my business. So please, explain." Kathrine glared as she lead me through the halls.

Sighing deeply, I answered. I wasn't in the mood for arguing with her right now, I just wanted to get this over an done with without 'misbehaving' so I could see my friends. "I had a bad dream," I admitted. "and I'm used to having someone there for me when I do. When no one was there, I freaked out a little and didn't want anyone watching me."

"There is not a camera in your bathroom for respect of your privacy but that does not mean it is a place for you to hide, continue to hide in there rather then main part of your cell and I will have one installed, is that understood?"

I glared at Kathrine but said nothing more as I followed her into the training arena beyond. The seemingly endless halls, my temper struggling to get the best of my judgment but I pushed it aside, if today was anything like yesterday, there would be plenty of things to hit later that unfortunately was not Kathrine's face. I am so rubbing Giratina's Barbecued Torchic in her face when she is damned to Distortion World.
