42- It begins

Morning came with the effects of siren to wake me. Literally. The high pitch "we-a-woo" of the alarm that refused to stop until I sat up and threw a pillow at the security camera out of annoyance. I am not a morning person under any situation.

"Firetruck yourselves, all of you!" I groaned, flopping back down on my bed. After such a restless night I was ready to do nothing for, let's say, ever. But yet, Shadows warning for yesterday hung over me like a dark cloud, reminding me that whatever Team Rift wanted me for, it would start today.

A loud beep filled the room, threading the alarm to start off once more. I sighed heavily, sitting up to give the camera an unamused "are ya happy now?" face. Deciding that I wanted to be as annoying as possible that morning (without getting anyone in trouble) I decided to take an hour long shower so I wouldn't be pestered until later. They wake me up, they can deal with my shitty mood, even Silver knows better then to wake me up and he learnt that the very hard way. The Moonblast to the face kind of way.

To my complete surprise, both the hot and cold taps worked in the bathroom (though after the first half an hour the hot water was shut off, guess no one told these guys I spent six months with a waterfall as my shower while living in Pinwheel Forest so this was nothing). When I was satisfied with the amount of time wasted, I changed into the spare clothes sitting in the cupboard.

The shimmery dark blue tank top, accompanied by a white jacket with silver sequinned high lights along the bottom and pockets, were both tight fitting (with the expedition of the hood) as was the black jeans I wore with it, also highlighted with sequins. The outfit was meant as slightly more as a going out somewhere nice outfit but I really didn't care as the point. I pulled on a fresh pair of socks before leaving the bathroom to vetch my joggers which I'd left beside me bed.

Leaving the bathroom, I strolled through my cell as if I didn't just waste an hour in the shower, humming the chorus to the Asshole song under my breath. A breakfast tray sat on the bedside table, funny, I didn't hear anyone come in but then, I wasn't really paying attention to anything. I huffed lightly, feeling unamused as well as confused by the small stack of warm pancakes and apple juice. Yeah, I'm not eating those.

I waited around my cell for what felt like hours, realistically it was only half and hour or so but who realistically cares?

The door open to reveal Maxine, inspecting her nails boredly. "Your mum wants you kid."

"She's not my mum." I huffed, turning away from the admin.

Maxine sighed heavily, pulling a face implying she'd rather be in bed right now. "Whatever, just follow me." She said, irritation seeping heavily into her tone.

"No, I'm busy."

"Doing what?"

"Procrastinating duh." I rolled my eyes as if it were obvious.

In case you haven't guessed, I feel like being an asshole right now and that's exactly what I'm going to be, don't like it then go read 'Find my voice' or something. (A/N #ShamelessAdvertisingIsShameless)

"You like making things difficult don't you?"

"How else would I have fun around here?"

Maxine pinched the bridge on her nose with her thumb and forefinger, clearly not enjoying this as much as I was. "Just follow me, without complaining."

I blew my fringe from my face as I sat up, glaring at Maxine casually before I noticed a Mega Lucario behind her, not to my surprise it was glowing the green and black easily associated with the corrupt Megas the Team Rift dominantly used. Running my finger through my hair, I followed Maxine from my cell. Her Corrupt Mega followed closely behind me as we entered part of the compound that seemed much fancier then what I'd witnessed for Team Rift thus far.

My feet sunk slightly in the plush carpet, an intricate patten detailing its surface as wooden beams danced with the flickering light of a chandelier. The walls were still quite plain but clearly had more care put into them then the steel and concrete walls I'd seen so far.

The raven haired admin ushered me into a room, or should I say office, where Kathrine sat, going through papers until she noticed I was there. Maxine simply shut the door, leaving me alone with my 'mother'.

"Good morning Emma, I trust you slept well?" She greeted casually, sounding unusually perky for someone who had their kidnapped biological daughter standing in front of them.

I huffed, folding my arms over my chest. "No."

"Pity." She frowned lightly, looking over a paper before Turing her gaze to me once more. "Now, we have business to attend to."

"I don't care."

"You will." Kathrine smirked, interlocking her fingers as she rested her elbows on the table. She rested her chin atop the bridge made by her hands she studied me for several seconds before she continued. "Unless you don't care about what happens to Silver and Red after all."

I winced as I dug my nails into my palms, scraping away the scabs that had formed overnight. "Fine, I'm listening." I spat.

"As I'm sure you're aware by now, we plan to study your mental plain, figure out how your powers work along with your emotions." She inquired.

"Yes I know, why do you care how my emotions work, what's it got to do to anything?" I grumbled, narrowing my eyes at the Organisation leader as what Shadow had told me yesterday relayed fresh in my mind.

"A lot actually. So far through data collected by Cyrus during Unoven events, my scientists had figured out that your powers are mainly emotional based. We simply need to figure out how to maximise the strength of your abilities without risking taking to much of your power to actually, well... kill you."

"Yeah right, you wouldn't care if I died in the process." I huffed, raising a suspicious eyebrow. "No one else ever has."

"Actually, quite the opposite Emma. If we wanted you to die in the process then I'd simply gather the necessary data only before I executed my plan. If you want to walk away at the end of this alive, you'll do as I say so my scientists can figure out how to maximise your power without jeopardising your over all health."

"What?" I asked, furrowing my brow to try to make any sense of what she just said, I'm still tired after all.

Kathrine sighed deeply. "I need power, power you have. I'm going to take what power I need from you in a way that won't kill you."

"Why didn't you just say that? Are you taking confusing lessons from Shadow or something?" I rolled my eyes, sick of how evil bosses try to over complicate the things they say to make themselves sound fancy.

"You have a habit of changing topics don't you?"

"Yup, just one of my many talents."

Sighing deeply, Kathrine veered the topic back on course. "Back to what I called you here for, you want Silver and Red alive don't you?"

"Yes, why else would I still be here?"

"Because I have you locked in a high security cell." Kathrine actually sounded confused as to why I wouldn't still be here. Guess no one told her I have five years of experience breaking out of 'high security cells'.

"With an air vent." I smirked.

"What?"

"An air vent that I can easily fit though." I crossed my arms. "You do realise I've spent the past five years of my life going in an out of cells and between today and yesterday I have already figured out thirteen ways I could have been out of there already. If anything your security has gotten worse." I changed the topic again~! What is wrong with me today... Perhaps I've been spending to much time with Night.

"Really?"

"Yup."

"Topic for another day. As I've said, we're going to put you through some tests so we can figure out the best way to harness your power and get you out alive but I have no use for Silver and Red nor do I care what happens to either of them but killing them would no doubt have a negative impact on the tests we have yet to preform."

"No doubt."

Kathrine sat up straight, neatening the stack of papers on her desk as she spoke. "So I have a simple proposal for you, you do as you're told, with no complications and I'll let Silver, Red and all of your Pokémon go. No strings attached."

"What about me?" I asked, suspicion clear in my tone.

"You will be given to Shadow as we've previously agreed." Kathrine explained. "Both of you were required for the goals of Team Rift but Shadow was... More agreeable to our terms, his only request was that he would get what was left of you after after our deal was done. A trade if you will, his assistance for you."

"Right, I'm a Pokémon card now. Silly me, I keep forgetting." I crossed my arms with a raised eyebrow. Does no one understand that I am a human being to? I'm pretty sure this is illegal... Oh wait... I forgot who I'm refusing to, yeah never mind then.

"That metaphor makes no sense."

"Eh, they get it." I shrugged, casually jerking my thumb beyond the broken forth wall towards the watching readers.

"Can we jump to the time skip already?" Kathrine sighed, no doubt as over this as I was.

"Why not?" I shrugged again.

"Round 56 ended."

I collapsed to my knees, panting heavily. Beads of sweat dripped down my forehead as I struggled to catch my breath. How could I only be up to round 56? It feels as if I've been doing this for days now yet it hadn't even hit noon, for crying out loud.

After the details of my deal with Kathrine were out of the way I was basically dumped in a room similar to the one that N used to enhance my abilities only this time the rounds were timed rather then disactivated and I didn't have my abilities to defend myself as the band on my wrist counteracted the power building within me.

"What do you think you're doing?" Kathrine hissed irritably, tapping her foot impatiently as she glared at me on my hands in knees in an attempt to regain my breath.

"Just-- taking a breather." I panted, wiping my forehead with the back of my hand, having previously removed my jacket for easier movement.

"Well stop, you have more work to do."

Shifting my position to make it easier to breath, I looked up at the leader. "I'm only human, geez. How much do you expect me to do?"

"Ma'am, we have acquired more then the needed data for this period of time and pushing the subject may interfere with the results we need." A scientist muttered, writing down notes on a clip board as he waddled into the room. I recognised him as the same one who'd experimented on me the last time I was here. Oh joys.

"What he said." I interjected, wincing as I tired moving position.

Kathrine glanced at the watch on her wrist and sighed irritably. "Fifteen minutes, no more."

An annoyed huff passed my lips as I fell onto my back, my lungs still heaving for air a sweat still cover my face. "Can I get a face towel and some water, pah-lease?" I asked, blowing my fringe from my face to no avail as my hair was soaked, sticking to my forehead and back of neck.

"No, you're not here on vacation."

"Nah bleep Sherlock but I am you know, human." I rolled my eyes as I sat back up. "Besides, if I could go on vacation, it would to my bed at home or anywhere that is not in your presence. Hell, I'd go to the Distortion World if that's an option. Giratina is much better company then everyone in this entire facility... Cooks a pretty good Torchic to."

Kathrine returned my eye roll, turning her back to me and leaving my training room. "Behave yourself." She muttered as I left the room.

I stuck my tongue out at her as she left, adjusting the sleeves of my tank top with a sigh of irritation. My sapphire blue eyes carefully examined the room for any change but it was exactly the same as it was when I entered with all the panels tightly shut, leaving a warm, plain room behind. Carefully I flexed my muscles, analysing each of them for any signs that I may have strained any muscles but found nothing more then a few forming bruises and shallow cuts.

The room softly hummed as I leant against the back wall. It gave off a sticky warmth but I was to tired to care as I shut my eyes and opened my mind to aura. I felt nothing from this room, the air was dead and nothing with any life force remained with what my exhausted mind could see, besides myself of course. Until the door opening brought in a new aura to mind, one as black as the deepest point in the sea and almost made me shiver from the chill it brought to the room.

I opened my eyes, keeping them narrow to watch Shadow's movements with caution since I knew I wouldn't be strong enough to defend myself right now but despite my suspicions he simply gave me a raised eyebrow look. "Heads up." He warned throwing two objects at me.

I caught the water bottle but the towel landed at my feet. A tight frown formed as I gave Shadow a confused look. "Thanks...?"

"You are welcome, now if you would, I'd like you to answer me something?"

Holding up a fore finger, silently telling him to wait as I drained the water in two quick gulps. I spent a few seconds catching my breath I looked up at him, seeing his amused look. "Yeah?"

"Why are you still here?"

"That's a weird question. Would I be here if I could get out?"

"You have the strength and the skill, what's holding you back?"

"Maybe... This thing?" I held up my wrist showing off the black wrist band. "That and I have no idea where my friends and Pokemon are, I have no idea how to get out of here beyond my cell and I have Kathrine and Cyrus breathing down my neck every moment of everyday." I hissed, glaring at him. "What do people expect me to do?"

"Maybe show a little more backbone?" Shadow raised an eyebrow. "Back in Sinnoh, you fought against everything I threw at you without hesitation, even resisting the Night Voice for far longer then what would be considered human."

"Back in Sinnoh you didn't use my friends and Pokémon against me. Now please leave me alone, I have fifteen minutes to be alone and I would like to alone." I pouted, using the towel to wipe away the sticky sheen of sweat from my face and neck.

"Whatever you say my dear. Enjoy your fifteen minutes of solitude." He smirked his smirk of knowing something I didn't.

Rolling my eyes in unamusement, I settled down to try and relax for the fifteen minutes I'd been given, trying to figure out a way out of this predicament before things got really bad.
