Chapter 1: Pneumonia Problems
Xuli's POV:
I awoke to a terrible pain in my stomach. I felt so hot and cold, I were shivering and the world spun around so much I felt dizzy.
I trudged out of bed and went to the bathroom. Although it was still dark, I felt the rim of the toilet seat. I leaned over it and was sick until my stomach was empty. I felt too dizzy to stand up. When the dizziness went away after I don't know how long, I stood up and walked back to bed, I thought maybe a little sleep will help the nausea fade and help me feel better. I tried to shut my eyes.
Worthless. My stomach hurts me again, and the world spins too fast for me to sleep. I needed someone to help me, but Ubercorn was away, so who?
I remember when he told Lars that he was in charge. Maybe he can help me.
I get out of bed again, trying to ignore the pain and dizziness and nausea. I trudged out of my room and across the hall, swallowing the urge to throw up again.
I finally got to Lars' room. I knock three times.
"Lars?" I call.
He opens up, looking a bit tired and sleep-deprived.
"Lars, I've been sick." I said weakly.
He took one look at me.
"Put on something warm," he said, "I'm taking you to the Academy Hospital."
"Lars, I don't-" I began.
"You're obviously ill," he said, "I'll mix you something warm to drink for the way."
I trudged back to my room and took out my purple fluffy coat. I put it on. I felt surprisingly warm.
On the way to the kitchen, I looked at my reflection in some glass. I was deathly pale, with dark circles under my eyes. I looked horrifying. I ignored it and walked to the kitchen, where Lars was pouring some hot chocolate into a flask. He looked at me as I walked in.
"Oh, Xuli, you look terrible." He said. I fell over and Lars got me. I marveled on his warm body against my cold contemptuously shivering own.
"We're taking the Truckster there," Said Lars as we entered the garage.
"Lars? Where are you going?" Said Jet Pad, noticing us.
"Can you watch over Kyan and Foz for us?" Asked Lars, "Xuli's ill. I'm taking her to the Academy Hospital now so she can see a doctor."
"The Truckster's fully charged," Said Jet Pad, "It's ready to roll, as you say it, Lars."
Lars loaded me in the back and put a blanket over me, and off we went.
********************
The Academy island was dark as the Truckster sped through. I was able to hear, at the Academy, faint voices of trainers discussing what to do.
"You can go to sleep if you want to, Xuli," Said Lars.
"No, I don't feel like..." was the last I said before drifting off.
The next thing I knew, Lars was walking into a hospital room, where a smiling nurse stood respectfully.
"She's sleepy," Lars explained through my half-asleep state.
"Lay her on the bed," Said the nurse, "then I can check her over."
Lars laid me down, and the nurse started examining me. Then they talked about what I might've caught. I put my fingers on the radiator to attempt to keep at least one part of my body warm, but it totally backfired. I threw up again, worse than back home in Jet Pad. I couldn't breathe when I stopped.
The nurse gasped, Lars ran to get a cleaner, but I blushed.
As Lars and the cleaner cleaned up the place, the nurse sat beside me and comforted me.
"I'm sorry," I said, "I-I didn't mean that, I'm..."
"Shh...shh...it's okay, you didn't mean it. You couldn't help yourself-"
"What is going on here?"
We all looked up and to our surprise, saw a surprised-looking doctor stood there, she wore an orange doctor's uniform with a white coat with a magenta trim. Which meant she was the deputy head of the hospital!
"Dr Jòane!" Said the nurse, rising from my bedside, and went to the doctor and explained everything.
Lars and the cleaner managed to clean up all my sick. The doctor sat next to me and examined me, talking to the nurse about the results.
And I threw up. Again. Lars and the cleaner had to clean up. Again.
I was still upset, "Sorry," I said sadly again, "I couldn't-"
The doctor stroked my arm gently, "It's okay," she said, "I've already diagnosed you with a middle level of pneumonia."
Pneumonia.
I hate my life.
The doctor wrote down a list of prescriptions and gave it Lars, who looked at it.
"I most importantly prescribe lots of rest, fresh air, and fluids," said the doctor.
"Okay," said the Lars.
I fell asleep again. I heard,
"I think I'd better call the head doctor,"
"Who? Ab? She's at the meeting, remember?"
"I know, but she told me to call her if someone comes here,"
I felt Lars lifting me back into the Truckster, and the Truckster going back home to Jet Pad.
"I'll call Ubercorn and let him know." I heard Lars say.
**************************
The next thing I knew, I was lying in my bed again, with Lars discussing something to another nurse. They looked at me when I woke up.
"Xuli, you're awake! Let me introduce you to nurse Cassandra, she'll be looking after you for the day." Said Lars.
Cassandra nodded at me and smiled, "You can call me Cassie, if you like. Now you get some sleep, I'll be back to check on you later."
She patted my hand and turned out the lights. Then she and Lars walked out of the room, letting me sleep in peace.
