Truth and Scars

This is a tie in to 'New Life' by doodis2014, a story where she adopts a F!God Error.

And recently, a character of mine appeared, so I thought that I would do a little side story of her.

-------

Chaos breathed a sigh of relief after she locked the door to their apartment after her.

Today had been exhausting, mentally and physically, seeing the little Skeleton that Doodis had adopted was bringing up a lot of unwanted and painful memories.

She pulled the green hoodie that she was wearing off before she hung it up on the coat hooks. She winced as a slight pain came from her back.

'Damn you Dream, how long will you haunt us in our memories...' She thought, seeing Beku had brought it all back, the running, the fighting, the injuries, the times that they had almost died...

They were free now, so, why? Why did it still follow them, haunting their footsteps wherever they went?

The pain from her back grew stronger and while she was grateful that Cross had taken the others to get Pizza, it still meant that she was facing this alone...

She made her way to the bathroom, pulling off the simple tanktop with built in support in front of the mirror, she could only see fragments of it from the front, making it look not as bad as it was.

It was only when she angled the mirror she could really see it.

The huge burn mark scar began at her left shoulder before it sharply ripped across her back to end at her right hip, which it curled around slightly, leaving the tail end of it visible from the front, just like where it began, that end curled around her shoulder.

It was slightly pulsing gold as she looked at it, a permanent reminder of who had given her that scar.

And it was not the only scar there, the rest of her back was covered with scars from sword slashes, Magic attacks and other burn marks, but only the scars from a sword were glowing gold.

She frowned, placing her right hand over the end on her shoulder, before it glowed green.

That light travelled down the massive scar, spreading to all of the other gold glowing scars as her markings flared to life.

The ones on her back were duller than the rest, but the rest of them still shone brightly.

The gold slowly faded away and Chaos breathed a sigh of relief. This was happening once a week now, instead of a month.

"What does it mean?" She asked herself as she entered their shared bedroom, before she raided Cross's side of the wardrobe for one of his spare turtleneck sweaters. The scar tissue on her back was just too sensitive for her to wear a bra now.

She heard the front door open and she looked out of the bedroom to see Nighty and Errant rush back into their apartment.

"Boys! Don't run so fast!" Cross said as he entered the apartment with the pizzas, shutting the door behind him with his hip.

"Yes Uncle Cross!" Errant yelled while Nighty just gasped when he saw Chaos.

"Mommy!" He cried, running over to her before he hugged her leg. "Daddy, Erry and I got the pizzas!"

"That's great!" She knelt down to rub the top of Nighty's skull. "I'm so proud of you."

Nighty giggled as he hugged Chaos around her neck. "I love you Mommy!"

Chaos just smiled and she hugged him back. "I love you too Nighty, now, go and eat your Pizza. Mommy and Daddy need to talk."

"Okay." Nighty let go of her before he rushed into the kitchen just as Cross came out of it.

The sight of Chaos in his sweater told Cross everything that he needed to know. "Again?"

"Yeah..." Chaos almost jumped when she felt something cold touch her arm, she looked at it to see that it was her favorite cold drink. She took it. "This is the fourth time this month that this has happened." She opened the can before she drank some of it.

"Does this mean..."

"That bastard should stay where he is and never come back." Chaos hissed as she tightened her grip on her can. "He's done enough damage to us Cross, don't you think?"

"Yeah..." Cross reached up to touch the brown scarf that he was wearing. "He has...."

"I'm sorry for being such a bad friend Cross..."

"Ink.... No! Damn it Ink! Don't you dare die on me! INK!!"

Chaos frowned, right as laughter echoed from the two child skeletons, a sharp contrast to what they had been a few years ago....

"That day, was supposed to be a day off..."

"I know..." Cross wrapped one of his arms around her shoulders.

"We were sleeping in the shade..."

"I remember..."

"And then, Dream just attacked us out of nowhere."

"We didn't have Nightmare's staff and my knife. We didn't think that we would need them."

"Only Error and I had some kind of weapon to use but it wasn't enough..."

"I know, I was the first one to be taken out...."

"Then he went after Error..."

"The Boss tried to stop him."

"But he got hurt, Dream had gone insane, he no longer cared about anything, he just wanted his way to be the way that everyone would choose..."

"You tried to stop him."

"And Dream tore my back open."

Cross gently pulled Chaos into a side hug.

"And then Ink and Blue got involved, because Dream was going too far.... And we lost Ink...."

Chaos gently nuzzled Cross. "Blue lost his left arm and then, he tried to kill Nighty.... I tried to protect him and I know that I wasn't able to do much to protect him because of my back, but I still feel like I could have done more..."

"I know." Cross placed his free hand over one of her own, squeezing it gently. "You did what you could back then Chaos."

"And when I couldn't protect him anymore, Error stepped up but it ended with him and Nighty impaled on Dream's sword, to the Tree."

She couldn't get that out of her head, the image of Nightmare and Error impaled on Dream's sword, to the Tree, holding each other....

"But, everything turned out to be okay in the end, right?"

"Yeah, if the Tree spirit didn't step in, I don't know what could have happened..."

"She really let Dream have it, didn't she?"

"Yeah, and I hope that he stays sealed within the Tree, forever.... And while I will always be grateful for her healing us, saving Nighty and Error by turning them into kids and bringing us here, why didn't she get involved earlier? So much pain, sorrow and even Death could have been prevented..."

"Mommy, Daddy?" Nighty was looking at them from the kitchen doorway. "Are you okay?"

"It's just bad memories Nighty." Chaos said. "Bad memories from when I got the nasty pictures on my back."

"Okay Mommy, but the Pizza is getting cold and Erry is still hungry."

"That bottomless pit better leave my Meat Feast alone!" Cross shouted.

"I haven't touched it Uncle Cross!"

"And I hope that you didn't touch mine as well Errant!"

"I didn't Auntie Chaos!"

"You're lying!" Nighty yelled. "You took some of the sweetcorn from it."

"I did not!"

"Yes, you did!"

"No, I didn't!"

Cross just smiled. "To hear them arguing like that, doesn't it make everything that we have been through, worth all of the blood, sweat and tears that we have shed for it?" He asked.

"Yeah, it does..." Chaos frowned. "Cross, Doodis has adopted a small skeleton child."

"Wow, that's amazing, do you think that we could set up a playdate for all three of them?"

"Cross... He's just like us and I think that he knows that...."

"You mean..."

"He's not from this Multiverse, and I think that he was hurt, just like us, maybe even more, his entire body is covered in scars and chips Cross. Some of his wounds haven't healed properly and you can't even see some of them..."

"Then, we better make sure that he finds the peace that he was denied in his own Multiverse, I'll swing by and check on them later, once we have feed the hungry beasties in the kitchen."

"Okay..."

----

Cross found himself watching over Doodis and Beku as they slept. They seemed to be fine.

The young Skeleton had clearly enjoyed the cookies that Doodis had made but he couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong....

He was about to call it a night when the portal appearance. He swore and he dug out his phone, calling the first number on it, cursing while he waited for the one on the other end to pick it up.

He froze when he saw the Skeleton talking to Beku, he could recognise that style of crown anywhere...

Someone picked up the phone.

"Cross?"

"We have a problem." He watched as the group of Skeletons left with Doodis and Beku, growling at how one of them treated the little shin. "His Multiverse caught up with him... Chaos, they have a Dream, but he looks nothing like the one that we know and there is a portal that is still open..."

".... Hold the line Cross. Let's see if they are stupid enough to send someone back through that portal. I'll go and dig out those frying pans, before I join you. I'll bring the kids with me, I think that it's time that they practice their Magic on a Live Target."

Cross nodded his head. "Okay, I'll see you later then."

He ended the call before he used a Shortcut to enter the house, settling down in a position where he could watch the open portal to see if anyone was stupid enough to come back through it and to keep an eye on it, without being seen.

They had lost too much to the Dream of their Multiverse, and his group, Justice Reigns. They weren't going to let Beku's old Multiverse destroy his chance of breaking free from their chains without a fight.

Because they knew what that felt like...

This was their Happy Ending and no one was going to ruin it for them.

Beku deserved a chance to find his Happy Ending.

And if the Kid couldn't fight for it, then they would fight for him.

He was one of them now.

And the Meme Squad never gives up without a fight.
