She was right there, when that flash of gold came from him and spread across the land. She fell to her knees, screaming. It was too much, she couldn't handle it! It burned, driving daggers into her heart and Soul.

She could see it, that floating green heart that was being overtaken by gold, no! This wasn't right, this wasn't the way that this was meant to happen.

“Chaos!"

Someone was there, pouring even more Magic into her, but this Magic was soothing, it was fighting against the pain, allowing her to breathe.

"Just hold on! I'll save you! Don't die!"

Something was shoved into her mouth, bitter and sweet at the same time, two teeny-tiny pieces of something, although she didn't know what. She swallowed them, and the pain just… stopped.

“Chaos, please! WAKE UP!"

Chaos took in a huge gulp of air as she woke up, quickly sitting up and groping around until she found a light switch, she turned it on to reveal Nightmare, who had obviously been trying to wake her up. "Nightmare, it happened again, didn't it?" She asked.

“Yeah... it's the fifth night in a row that you’ve had that nightmare." He said worriedly.

“It's not your fault, Nighty. I guess that what happened with Dream, and being that close to him again, caused them to start up again."

“But it is my fault! It’s because of my actions that you are who you are now!"

“You saved my life that day by giving me some of the skins from the apples that Dream didn't eat, Nighty.” Chaos told him. "I would have died if you hadn't, my Soul would have been unable to withstand that Magic and cracked from the pressure. You saved me, Nighty, by using what you knew about the apples and Dream's Magic to counteract what had been done to me. It was my fault for being so close, I got nosy and I paid the consequences for my actions. My sins are not for you to bear, they belong to me and me alone."

“But it's been about 50 years, maybe even longer, since that day and you haven't aged a day, thanks to what I have done to you. You didn't deserve to be punished because I saved your life, you can't die and it's all my fault." 

Chaos frowned, this was something that they often fought over after they escaped their AU, Nightmare blamed himself for what happened and she blamed herself for not doing more to stop Dream.

"We really are a pair." She said as tears started to fall from her eyes, Nightmare could see the green and purple tint of her Magic within them. "Aren't we?" She smiled. "Far, far, older than we look, because of what happened all those years ago, back in the time when things were a lot more simple and Dream wasn't an insane idiot."

"Yeah, we really are." He eventually said. "Do you remember what we agreed, it wasn't just our fault, it was Dream's too, all three of us are to blame and we have to live with that."

"Wasn't that about the time that we decided to try and record how long it had been since that day?"

"And it's been more than 50 years, hasn't it? We think that it's been 50 years because that's when we decided to start recording how long it had been."

"Yeah." Chaos was silent for a few minutes before she thought of something. "Nighty, where are Cross and Error? Shouldn't they have been woken up by the noise that we're making?"

Nightmare's eyelights widened and he dashed out of the room to check on his minions, while Chaos got out of her bed, put her glasses on, wiped her eyes dry and she headed over to her wardrobe to grab some fresh clothing.

She had only changed out of her sleepwear and into her sleeveless sweater, underwear and socks when Nightmare rushed back in, screaming.

"Chaos! My minions are gone!"

She sighed. "Give me five minutes to finish getting dressed and then we'll go and save them from Dream and his band of idiots." She sighed as she started to pull her jeans on. "They probably left early to set up a prank, again, without telling us."
