Rin was right about being in a coma for a week after that incident. Actually, he was out cold for two weeks.
When he finally woke up, it was like waking up from being dead. Everything was just darkness and peace and then he sat up suddenly and gasped, eyes flying open to scan the room he was in. "Rin! Oh, thank God!" Shura's arms were around him in a flash.
"I knew you weren't dead, but still, you took so long to wake up and I just–" Rin cut her off, shushing her gently. "No, no, no, it's okay. It's fine, I promise. I'm okay." Rin hugged her back awkwardly, not used to the contact.
The only thing Shura had left of Shiro was almost gone. Rin had no idea how much he was like his dad. Shura was glad for it. Shiro still had somewhat of a legacy left in the world. She wished she hadn't been such a failure to him after he'd taught her everything he knew about surviving in the Exorcist world.
"Did you tell everyone about me?" Rin asked, pulling away. Shura nodded solemnly. "How did it go?" Rin didn't want to know, but he need to at the same time. "Ehhhh, could've gone worse. Suguro understands it, Kamiki doesn't care, Shima doesn't care, Shiemi is fine with it, and Konekomeru probably pissed himself. He's real jumpy about it, so don't expect anything but negativity from him." Shura listed off. Rin smiled.
"What?" She wondered. "Thank you. For caring. And being here." He thanked. Her expression softened and she smiled back. "Of course, Rin."
Rin sighed and got up. He began pulling the IVs from his hands. Shura jumped up and unplugged the heart monitor before it could start flatlining while Rin took all the stuff off of him.
"A little warning next time!" The woman complained. Rin gave a sheepish grin. "Heh, sorry." He got up and frowned at the hospital gown he was wearing. "Don't worry, I kept some of your clothes around just in case you woke up anytime." She grabbed an outfit out of a cabinet and threw it to the teen. Rin grinned and pulled off the hospital gown. Shura hurriedly turned away and Rin snorted. She'd seen him in less than a hospitals gown. Sometimes, there just want time to care about whether or not he burned his clothes away in battle.
A nurse came in just as Rin was putting his shirt on and stopped cold. Her face slowly went red as she stared at his nicely muscled top half. When he pulled the shirt down over himself she snapped out of it. Shura fought the urge to laugh. Rin and Yukio both always had people oogling them. Even the guys in the P.E. locker rooms couldn't help but stare discreetly.
Lesson learned: The Twins had some good genes and it was super obvious.
"Uhhh.....I-I was sent to check on you, but, I guess you're fine, so I'm just gonna....y'know, go get the doctor and....uh, bye!" The young woman hurried away and left Rin snickering and Shura laughing loudly in the room.

"Rin-san!" Shiemi barreled into him, holding him tight in a hug. He wheezed, surprised by the tight hold. "Oof! Hey Shiemi. Nice to see you too." He greeted. She gave a smile that was as bright as the sun before grabbing his wrist and pulling him over to the rest of the ExWires. Suguro greeted him with a nod, Shima threw him a grin, Izumo said hello, and Konekomeru hid behind Bon.
"Dude. I haven't done anything threatening to you the whole year? What does it matter who my sperm donor is?" Rin deadpanned. Suguro snickered at the choice of words, grabbing his friend and pulling him out from behind him. "Koneko, it's fine. He saved us a couple weeks ago didn't he?" He pointed out.
"Swooning about how much you respect someone and then judging them by who their parents are isn't very good character." Izumo sneered. Rin would've corrected her, but she wasn't wrong. "Could've been said nicer, but yes. Rin chose to live–both for himself and to avenge his father. You can't shame him for that." Shura put in.
"But he's not human! Why would he care? He could be like the headmaster! Playing with humans like puppets!" Konekomeru argued. "That's a valid point." Rin admitted.
"But," he started when Konekomeru opened his mouth again. "While I am not human, I'm not fully Demon either. I am a Nephilim. A mix of both, not just half and half. I was raised as a human until I unsealed myself when our father found me a week before first year of highschool started." Rin explained. "I wasn't even gonna go to highschool, but the headmaster is my older half-brother and guardianship transferred to him after my dad was killed via possession by Satan." Rin continued.
"I was surrounded by exorcists at his funeral and given three choices–kill them and try to run, be docile and let them kill me like a dog in the streets, or kill myself. I made a fourth option and convinced the headmaster to let me be an Exorcist."
"When the Grigori found out, they weren't happy, but Pheles proposed a deal–Rin would be their weapon, but he had to pass the Exorcist exam the first time. If he didn't, he'd get executed." Shura picked up the story.
"That's messed up. Wasn't your mom a human?" Shima recalled. "Yup. But any child with Satan's DNA couldn't possibly turn out to be good." Rin said mockingly. "Still salty over that, eh?" Shura sighed. "I will forever be salty over it. If you raise a kid with that sentiment, I feel bad for your children. Shiro didn't even have parents. He was raised to be a demon-killing machine and he was an okay Dad." Rin threw his hands in the air.
"Oh good, you're awake. Come, Demon, we have a mission for you." Arthur August Angel looked like he'd rather do said mission himself. The man was hanging off the top of the fountain
"Are you sure you're not part monkey, Angel? Whenever you pop up to get me, you're hanging off of something like a chump–sorry, chimp." Rin had the grin that said he knew exactly what he was doing and he was cackling on the inside. Angel grimaced at the sharp, pearly white fangs brandished at him. "You should probably go before steam comes out of his ears and he decides to drag you there by your tail." Shura told him, surprisingly the voice of reason even though she had her arms crossed and a grin matching Rin's.
"See ya, kids. Later Shura." Rin left with the Paladin.
"Rin-senpai seems less uptight around you today, Kirigakure-sensei." Shima noticed. "Yeah, usually, he's running away from you because you keep trying to get him to drink with you." Suguro agreed.
"Yeah, she always tries to get Rin-san to drink with her. But I don't see what's wrong with taking a water break with someone?" Shiemi said. "Oh, Moriyama-san. Bless your soul." Konekomeru shook his head while Shima wheezed and Izumo looked at the blonde with an almost pained expression. "Noooo, that's not what that means...." Suguro muttered quietly, biting his lip to keep from laughing. Shura looked like she wanted to explain, but didn't.
"Well, I'm pretty sure there's some mission reports unfortunately calling my name, so I'll see you guys later." Shura left them to their own devices.
The teens decided to do a study group for the test in two days and order takeout.
