Hello again, everyone! I fell out of shipping twincest and honestly can't stand the original Why Now, so I've been rewriting it! There aren't really any ships yet, just forming bonds right now. This one will have a better plot and will follow the manga plot loosely. I hope you enjoy!

DEMONSDEMONSDEMONSDEMONSDEMONSDEMONSDEMONSDEMONS

Rin couldn't remember the days when he used to play with his brother. The days when they loved each other like brothers and looked out for each other like brothers. He couldn't really remember much of the time Shiro taught him to cook, either. He wasn't that old and it really wasn't that long ago, even if it felt like it. He couldn't remember the days when he wasn't alone in the house. All he remembered was the days that he'd gotten so lonely and bored in the house that he took to hanging around the streets. He had a name amongst the people on the streets. He'd been someone. It wasn't exactly a good someone, but he'd mattered.

Yukio had some kind of Cram School and Dad and the clergymen were always out and busy. Rin never knew where they went until three years ago, when he first found out he was the Son of Satan. And his life had gotten hectic for a while, but it died down after he became an Exorcist in the beginning of his second year at True Cross.

He'd been left alone by most of the students after beating Reiji Shiratori's ass. If anyone did bother him, he'd just politely tell them to fuck off.

He didn't know anyone but his twin, Yukio, and his mentor, Shura. Of course he knew pretty much everyone's name by now, but he didn't really know anyone personally. He just faded into the background.

And he was fine with that! He'd never had any friends before and he didn't need any now. He was just fine on his own and he liked it that way.

Until these damn freshman came to True Cross. These four freshman. They were training to be Exorcists and one, Shima Renzou, was training to be a Knight and Yukio had asked Rin to train him. Yukio didn't want Shura training the kid. Rin could understand that and he was intrigued by the shock of messy, dyed-pink hair the freshman had, along with the lazy attitude, so he agreed.

Now though, Rin was really curious about this guy's motivations. He was always calm and laid back, but he was also kind of suspicious with all the sneaking around he did sometimes....

"Where do you go after school every day, Senpai?" Shima asked, following after his upperclassman. Rin sighed. Their training session had ended, but that didn't keep the brat from following him around like a puppy.

"My dorm. I live alone with Yukio. It's the old boys' dormitory." Rin answered. "Huh? Why?" the Freshman wondered. Rin grumbled. He hated lying, but then again, that was all his life was. One huge lie. He would do what he had to to keep his identity a secret. The only reason he was still alive was because he was strong enough to immediately get a higher class Meister than Yukio in both Tamer and Knight on the Exorcist Exam and the fact that he was the Grigori's weapon. And that was all he was.

No, he'd never had friends, and yes, he'd had a horrible life so far, but he certainly didn't need friends now. He'd done just fine on his own, no point in wasting time trying to get to know people who would hate him as soon as they knew who he was when they became Exorcists next year. Being alone wasn't the best , but it was the best armour against society. There was no one that the Grigori could use against him. They already held his head under a gillotine 24/7. He'd decided he would never be anything more than a weapon, and that was that.

So why did he tolerate this kid? He should've pushed him away. But the Freshman insisted on being friends with him. He turned around suddenly and caught Shima by the wrist as he nearly fell backwards in surprise. He pulled the ExWire so their noses were almost touching. "Why do you want to be around me? What is it about me that you like so much?" Rin demanded. Shima's caramel eyes were wide, looking at the older teen.

"You're strong. And mysterious. I'm curious." He stuttered. Rin arched a brow. "Okay, but why do you and your friends insist on getting to know me?" He questioned further. "You try to be so cold, but you're too nice for that. You even agreed to help us become Exorcists!" Shima pointed out. Rin let go of his wrist and turned back around, hiding the flush on his cheeks. Of all the people, of course Satan's Son is a huge softy. Why is Life so cruel?

"Trust me, you don't want to know me. Even if I am a nice person, you'll end up hating me." Rin told him seriously. Shima followed along curiously. "Why?" He asked. "That's how it always happens. That's why I stopped trying to make friends after the first time. Once my fellow ExWires became Exorcists, they found out who I was and now they won't even look at me, much less speak to me. I got death threats for months before I shut 'em up." Rin answered, snarling at the thought of his used-to-be companions.

"Why do they hate you now, Senpai?" Shima questioned. "My parents." Rin said shortly, glancing back to see the pink-head still following. This kid really didn't give up, did he?

"Who are your parents?"

"Doesn't matter. Point is, stay away from me. Tell your friends." Rin told him harshly.

He then cast a small immobilizing charm around Shima and walked away. The magic Mephisto had been teaching him these past two years proved to be useful after all.....
