Chapter 8

I stopped walking and stepped back to look at the dark cell on my right, the cell where I heard the voice come from.

"I didn't think I'd meet another that retained a little of their humanity" I said and then looked at the other dark cell across from this one and pointed at it, "is this someone you know?"

"Yes, he's my brother" the girl's voice was strained and partly growling, she probably didn't get a lot of blood, or none at all from what I can hear. I didn't want to even thing about what she might looks like, as for her brother. I didn't hear anything from it, and I did't know what that meant.

"Why are your cells dark unlike the others?" I asked while cutting her glass with my nails, and I saw some movement in the darkest area of the cell.

"Were what they call Nightcrawlers, it's rare, but my brother turned out to be one as well, so-" she started coughing a lot, "so they keep our cells dark as to not irritate us, to keep us sane or something like that...might've mentioned something about death related to a lot of sunlight exposure or something...don't remember, it was so long ago"

I finished cutting the door and I told her to stay back, and then I pushed on the cut rectangle, and it just tipped and fell inwards, causing it make a loud boom once impacting on the metal floor.

"No wonder why you got out so easily" she said obviously curious, "how long have you been here and how were you brought in?"

"I haven't been captured by them, hell no, if they tried to I would just easily wipe them out, and eventually they would run out of people to send out after me" I said, "no, I was walking through some vents when I fell into what I thought was a bunker, but it was just a stupid cell, in a giant expanse of cells, in a long ass hallway" I laughed dryly and walked over to her.

She was actually really pretty for a dead girl, her hair was raven black like mine, and her eyes, though dim were a brilliant purple that kind of made me a little envious of.

"Now I'll go and work on getting your brother out" I said setting her just shy of the light from the hallways, "how long have you and your brother been here for? And how were you captured, you're basically considered the top on the so called Zombie Hierarchy?"

"Me and my brother were out hunting a deer in early spring, it was just after the first walls of the nearest settlements had gone up, just thin pieces of metal, nothing expansive yet like I imagine they are now, but we had just met with a human friend. It's been so long, I've forgotten his name, but we were hunting for blood, as we know that eating flesh is the only thing that turns you into an actual, mindless zombie that only had the basic survival needs and no, no human emotions of companionship or...romantic emotions.

Anyways we had just found a deer, and thought that it's movements were kind of mechanical. Like it was a robot that had been some how filled with warm blood, and after looking at it from a distance for a while we moved in. And then it exploded, some invisible force knocked both me and my brother away from it, and immediately rendered un unconscious. That's the only thing I remember before waking up here." The girl managed to get it all out before her next coughing fit, and I was almost done with the brother when I realized something. There was meat inside of the cell, they did feed them, so why didn't they use the blood from the raw meat given to them.

"Yeah I know you smell the meat they gave to us once a week, but the thing is, in order to not go crazy, we need to have living, fresh blood. Kind of like Vampires, and if we have anything else we turn into mindless, animals, but if we don't get blood we get extremely weak, and can barely control ourselves around a living thing" she went into another fit of coughing as I pushed the door I made inwards and it sounded like thunder, just like the last one as it hit the metal floor.

I stepped in and smelled a male in the corner, and I didn't see any movement so I assumed that he was unconscious. I stepped towards him and suddenly the body came flying at me, but thankfully, I'm faster and was able to step to the side and push the male sideways so that they ran into the glass, and fell to the floor actually unconscious this time.

I dragged him over to the opening and then hoisted him up so that he was hanging off of my shoulder, and then I walked through the doorway and grabbed the girl as well. They looked like twins, maybe that had something to do with the fact that he was probably the only male to be a Nightcrawler, they had the same DNA after all.

I extended a hand to her, which she thankfully took and then I pulled, hard, bending down so that she practically rammed my shoulder. And I hoisted her up to as she hissed with pain.

"Sorry, but I couldn't pick you up without dropping him" I said, and then went back into the hallway and turned towards the direction where I left the soldiers, cocking my head listening for them, but I didn't hear any running footsteps, so I think that I was still fine for now. I now needed to find something big, and alive for these two.

I turned away from the direction of the soldiers that I tied up, and shot off in the direction that they had come from. The two Nightcrawlers on my shoulders felt light bags of feathers surprisingly, and I could still easily run at full speed while holding onto them.

I was surprised that they didn't have some sort of vehicle to drive through this because it was long, probably took a day or more to check all of the cells every day judging by what I've seen so far. I didn't run into any other people, thankfully because I didn't want to see them get torn apart by the two hungry zombies on my shoulders. Although that would get them off of my back, and keep the male from drooling on me, I could feel it soaking through my jacket.

I finally reached something that seemed like it was an exit or something, and the good thing was that there was fresh air wafting in, or at least that's what I could smell anyways. What I saw on the other side of the door after opening it was a different thing entirely. I opened the door and stepped through it, only to be met with a squad of soldiers that were about to go through the doorway. They looked at me with surprise and then they realized what I was, but they were a little too late. I dropped the two on my shoulders and proceeded to go around knocking them out.

Then I grabbed two of them and dragged them over by their hands to the two unconscious zombie twin Nightcrawlers on the floor half conscious. They immediately smelled the blood in their bodies and autonomously dragged themselves over to the two unconscious soldiers that I had dragged over and bit into their necks. They were drained of their blood in seemingly twenty seconds before the two were suddenly on their feet and squatting beside another two unconscious soldiers. They moved to the last to, and when they were finally done, after having three bodies each, they stood up and came over to me while I looked around at the bodies around us.

I took off my pack and then gave them each a knife, and pointed to the bodies.

"I don't know if they'll come back or not, and they're your kills, so they're also your problem should they come back to life" I said and they took the knives and stabbed their kills in their heads, making it so that they, hopefully, wouldn't come back to life like my victims did.

"Why did you help us?" the male Nightcrawler asked me as he put away the knife that I gave him...I guess that's fair. It didn't seem like they were effected by the light anymore, so I guess that that was a plus. "And what are you? I've never seen your kind of zombie before"

"Yeah. I'll go in order. I helped you because your sister asked me to, maybe she realized that I wasn't a soldier or something or knew that I would help, but I have. Second, I don't know what I am, I just woke up this way, not from a lab, but rather in my room and I'm still pretty new to this entire zombie thing" I saw him look at his sister and she glared at him, silent understanding between twins or are they able to telepathically communicate.

"Oh and if you think that you and your sister will be able to take me on because you have the numbers, one, that's not going to work, and two, I can see it in your face, and that's how I guessed at what you were thinking" I motioned to his sister "also, I don't think that your sister is too fond of you thinking like that, I mean she did ask me to help, and I have, so you're welcome

The shock written in his eyes was all I needed, and just to prove my point I sped around him and had my claws in a circle at his spine, in line with his heart, and the other was in-front of him holding him in a light head lock with my claws touching the right side of his neck. I breathed in his scent and growled in his ear, his sister would still be able to hear it but I wanted to make sure that he got the point. I was loving my new body, the instincts, speed, deadliness, stealth, and everything else was just plain awesome.

"Now if you even think about betraying me, I will not hesitate to take off your head, and if you can manage to keep me from doing so. I'll rip out your heart, yeah it won't kill you, but you'll become a mindless monster right in front of your sister, and I don't think that either of you want that" I growled and he nodded his head in understanding, gulping in fear. I stepped back and then let him jump away from my reach.

"Okay now I hope that we can be friends, without any more death threats, or distrust" I said looking at them with a hopeful look in my expression...probably anyways. I never knew if I would ever become friends with another like me, and it was starting to make me gloomy inside just thinking about never finding anyone left with humanity inside of them. They both looked at me like I was crazy, maybe I was, but I was getting lonely. Not having someone to share the experience with, to talk to, to be around without them trying to study or kill me all of the time.

"Okay then. I guess it takes time for that sort of thing" I said and then stalked past them towards the second door, probably with more soldiers behind it, "well, are you ready to break out of this dump?" I dashed ahead towards the door, breaking it down as I ran through it, and the soldiers behind it were ready, or so they thought. Then again wouldn't a door that suddenly exploded from the inside be something that would catch you off guard as well, especially if a person caused that explosion, and then you realized that person was actually something that was trying ot kill you?

Well these guys realized the last part a little too late and by the time they were ready to shoot I was already in the middle of them breaking their necks one by one, and they couldn't shoot at me because they'd risk hitting one of their own, and I made sure to keep my movements as predictable-less as possible. Then two more shapes were making their way around the place and I smiled, let the break-out commence.
