Chapter 6

Kara's POV

I listened at Daniel talked about the different factions of the zombie classes and I was so stuck in thought that I almost ran straight into a tree, but still got whacked by a low-hanging branch and ended up flipping upside down and going almost five feet through the air to end up sliding in the dirt, on my face. I stood up and growled at the branch behind me, before wiping myself off and stepping forward. Only for something to catch on my foot and pull forward suddenly, knocking my to my back on the ground, slide forward, and then suspend in the air by my ankle upside-down. I felt my sunglasses slip from my face and onto the ground before my vision went black.

I woke up due to swaying and I looked around quickly to make sure nothing was coming before I bent up and used my claws to cut the rope tied to my ankle. I immediately regretted it because I fell through empty air and onto my back with a cracking sound, but I didn't lose my breath due to not needing any anymore, and I didn't break any bones. I rolled over and stood up to see that it was dark now and I looked at the ground to see the glint of my sunglasses, now broken, in the moonlight.

I was still so confused as to why I could see perfectly fine at night as I could at day, but I soon was forced to let it go due to a beam of light shining through the trees coming my direction. I jumped up and onto the nearest branch and then I climbed up a little and then jumped to the tree across from the one that I was in and I crouched as the light came to the spot that I was at. I saw that it was two kids, with only a pistol each, and I scoffed. I would not be so stupid to go more than a half mile, in the dark, with only a friend, a pistol each, a mag extra each maybe, and a small knife that hung clipped to the outside of their pants.

"What happened" the one on the left of my sunglasses said and I recognized him as maybe twelve, thirteen.

"I don't know" the other one was fifteen, sixteen. Maybe they were trying to prove themselves useful enough to the others by doing this dangerous feat "but I heard the trap went off a few hours ago, didn't you?" he turned to the one on the left and he nodded also confused, and then they looked at the rope. Then at the other half on the floor and picked it up, looking at the end that I had cut.

"No way" he breathed and passed it on to the other boy

"It was cut?" the other one said, and the one that handed him the rope nodded.

"Yeah, but by what there's no zombies smart enough to do that besides a Nightcrawler and I heard it during the day, so what happened?" I heard something move in the distance to my left and I looked over and caught form of a crouched shape hiding behind a bush. Looking at the two boys, and I landed quietly behind the two boys as they stared fearfully at the two glowing purple eyes behind a bush. I locked gaze with it and they slowly backed off with a flash of white fangs and a loud growl of annoyance. Then it turned around and disappeared behind the endless amount of trees.

I then jumped up onto the tree that I was under and the two boys slowly turned around expecting something else, probably. When they saw that nothing was behind them they loosed sighs of relief. I smiled and they must've seen the glint of my teeth because I noticed a small twitch in the left one's body and I was in another tree in a flash as the flashlight hit the spot that I was in earlier. The beam turned off and I heard struggling with something, probably untying the rope from around the tree, and clinking and I watched them leave in the dark with my sunglasses and the untied rope.

I decided to follow them, after all I had no other way of knowing where they came from and I saw them go towards a steel wall with sentries on every corner and no trees inside for me to jump onto. I saw the front part of the wall, over the road, start to open, and the sentry on the corner to my right looked over and watched them come in. I went around quickly and looked to make sure the other sentry was looking the other way, before jumping from my tree, and over the wall.

I got up and made sure that they were still looking opposite directions, and that no one was around having seen me, and once I was sure that I saw no glints of eyes, goggles, guns, knives, or shoes. I shot forward into the town running at full speed with the lights of houses and the parked cars on the sides of the lawns or driveways with the main-road going straight through the middle of the town and past the outer wall of the side. I finally caught the scent of my dad and I followed it, in the dark, hoping that no one could see me, till I reached a small house on the far corner of the place. Still plenty of room from it to the walls of the place's border and with a garden in the back.

I saw a balcony to the second floor and a AC unit near it, so I went five feet from it and then ran, jumped off of it, and landed quietly on the railing. I looked through the dark slider windows, and saw that it was dark inside. I slowly opened it and walked in before going over to the stairs and going half-way down before looking over the edge to see if anyone was in the living-room. I also got a view of a dark kitchen, and found no one in either. Not on the couch, in the kitchen, or in the hallway by the door. I went back up quietly, and lightly went to the bathroom to see that it wasn't occupied. I went through a couple more bedrooms upstairs and saw nor smelled one in the room.

I finally got to the last door and this one smelled like my dad, very strongly too like he was closer to the door. I slowly opened it and saw the bed empty, but it smelled like him. I put a foot inside and looked right to see the closet and I looked right and his scent was strongest there, and filled with fear. I was a little disappointed, but I didn't let it show, and I stepped inside and went over to the closet and looked through the clothes before seeing that he had some of my clothes there. I grabbed my favorite shirt, a black T-shirt that said F@#$ off B!#%#es with the symbols and words being different, bright, colors. I also grabbed some black knee-hole styled pants, a pair of socks, new underwear, but since he didn't have any of my shoes. I had to stick to the torn up, and old ones that I had on now, but I would go to a clothing store soon and get new ones.

I put the clothes in my pack and stepped out closing the door behind me in the process. I didn't leave the house, just his room, but I went to the bathroom, took a shower, and changed...all in the dark I might add too. I was fine with it though, since I could see and smell fine in the shower, and through my hearing was impaired for a slight while, everything else was fine, especially the feeling of being clean. I left the bathroom and went through the slider doors, closing them behind me. I stood there leaning on the railing for a second enjoying the air before jumping onto the railing and stay there crouched looking onto the walls and looking over to see if I could find anything close to kill.

My stomach grumbled as if reminding me that it needed blood, and I sighed before jumping off the railing in a front-flip and landing on my feet silently. Then I shot off and jumped over the wall not caring if the sentries saw me now since it was almost dawn, and I found my prey pretty quickly, and stalked it as it grazed on wild grass thinking about how I could feast without being messy and getting my shirt all bloody every time I did.

I guessed that I would just have to figure it out as I drank because my instincts were starting to gain control and if I didn't quench their forces then there would be a very big mess ahead of me. I quickly jumped onto the stag and broke his neck before biting into his neck and trying to be as civil as possible as I drank. I used the fur to wipe my mouth of the blood and I went over to the fence and sat against it wondering what the hell I was going to do next. The whole night I sat there and I eventually noticed that the sun was over the tree line, meaning that it was close to noon or something. I stood up and stretched, limbs popping and cracking, and then I jumped into a tree ten feet away from the wall and watched the people come out of their houses and tend to their gardens.

I watched my fathers house wondering when he was going to come out and tend to his garden like everyone else was, but he didn't come through the back, but I watched him speed walking in the front of his house going toward the front gates. Though as I watched him pass three houses, and I had to switch trees to see him turn down a path and go north along the gate wall. Then turn to a light red house, walk up the steps, knock on the door, and step inside with a beckoning hand inviting him in. I jumped down from the tree and ran around the edge of the wall under the sentry and climbed another tree in time to see my father in the window bending down shuffling with something, probably his shoes, before going to the left and turning on a light. I saw a figure laying on the couch, and dad went over and shook the person making them shift and wave him off. A lady came over and dragged them off by their feet before walking off and I smiled slightly chuckling at that.

The person sat up to reveal a man with a rather large beard, along with a matching hair of dark hair. I looked closer and saw that it was very dark brown hair. Dad seemed to say something to him, and the man shot up and said something quick before going around the corner and out of sight. I looked at the window and saw the lady was cooking or something. I wanted to see what they were talking about but my hearing wouldn't reach through the walls from this far, and I didn't want to risk being caught. I decided to wait till the cover of night to check out the place, and see what was there.
